Hotwire 6210, 6211, and 6381 Us er’s Guide 4.3 Setup To set up your modem with a basic conf iguration, from the Home page, select Setup. Figure 4-3 illustrates the Setup page. The page is broken into two subsections: the WAN configuration and the LAN configuration.

Hotwire 6210, 6211, and 6381 Us er’s Guide 4.4.1.4 DHCP Connection Setup Dynami c Host Co nfigur ation Pro tocol (DHCP ) allows the mo dem to automat ically obtain the IP add ress fro m the server. This option is commonly used in situations where IP is dynamically assigned and is not known prior to assignment .

The accompanying information such as the subnet mask and the default gatew ay should also be specified. Up to three Do main Name Server (DNS) addresses can also b e specified.

Hotwire 6210, 6211, and 6381 Us er’s Guide 4.5.2 Changing the Modem’s IP address To can change the modem’s IP address: 1. From the Home screen, click Setup. 2. Under LAN Setup, sel ect Management. This w ill bring up the screen shown in Figure 4-12.

When users send this type of req uest to your network vi a the Internet , the router w ill forward tho se request s to the appropriate PC.

Hotwire 6210, 6211, and 6381 Us er’s Guide 4.6.7 Static Routing If the modem is connected to more than one network, you may need to set up a static route between the networks. A static route is a predef ined pathway that network information must travel to reach a specific host or network.
Hotwire 6210, 6211, and 6381 Us er’s Guide 4.6.8 Dynamic Routing Dynamic Routing allows t he CPE to automatically adjust to physical changes in the netw ork. The CPE, usi ng the RIP protocol, determines the network packets’ rou te based on the fewest number of hops between the sou rce and the destination.

This test may take a few seconds to complete. To perfo rm the test, select your connection from the li st and press the Test button.
