6 2.0 GENERAL INFORMATION Thank you f or your purchase of this P atton Electronics product. This product has been thoroughly inspected and tested and is warranted f or One Y ear par ts and labor .
7 3.0 INSTALLATION The Model 1088/K is equipped with two sets of eight DIP s witches , which allow configuration of the unit f or a wide variety of applications. This section describes switch locations and e xplains all possib le configur ations . 3.
8 Configuration DIP Switch Set “S1” Switches S1-1 through S1-8 ma y be used to configure CO/CP operation, line framing and coding, CRC-4 operation, and DTE initiated loop diag- nostics. Default settings of S1 s witches are shown in T able 1. T able 1: S1 Summary T able Switch S1-1: CO/CP .
9 within the unit. When connecting a 1088/K to an mDSL modem (e.g. Model 1088/C , 1088/D or 1095) other then a Model 1088/K, deter mine the source of the system clock and then determine the Model 1088/Ks CO/CP designation based upon the f ollowing char t.
10 Switch S1-3: CRC-4 Multiframe. CRC-4 Multiframe uses Time Slot zero to carry CRC-4 information. When CRC-4 is enab led (ON), the unit synchronizes to the CRC-4 multi-fr ame protocol. Note When the DTE rate is set to 2048 Kbps, Model 1088/K tr ansmits user data on all 32 timeslots, ignoring framing inf ormation.
11 Switch S2-1: DTE Rate. Use Switch S2-1 through S2-6 to set the DTE bit rate. Note Based on the DTE rate chosen, the Model 1088/K will automati- cally select the optimum line rate f or the distance. This selection is based on the lowest line r ate that will suppor t the DTE rate.
12 Switch S2-7: Reset Software Defaults. Switch S3-7 allows the user to reset the software configured f actor y defaults . This will only be needed when using the Model 1001MC to SNMP manage your units . For more inf or mation, please ref er to the Model 1001MC Operations Manual.
13 • Set the Model 1088 (CP) to “NetLink Plug-and-Play CP” by setting S1 and S2 DIP s witches in the ON position as described in Figure 3. Figure 3. 14 4.0 INSTALLATION Once the Model 1088/K is properly configured, it is ready to connect to the twisted pair interf ace, to the serial por t, and to the power source . This section describes how to make these connections . 4.1 CONNECT G.703 NETWORK The P ower , G.

17 4.4 POWER CONNECTION Universal A C P ower (100–240 V AC) The Model 1088 uses a 5 VDC, 2 A univ ersal input 100–240 V AC , power supply (center pin is +5V). The universal input power supply has a male IEC-320 power entry connector . This power supply connects to the Model 1088 by means of a barrel jac k on the rear panel.
18 5.0 OPERATION Once the Model 1088 is properly configured and installed, it should oper- ate transparently . This sections descr ibes pow er-up , reading the LED status monitors, and using the b uilt-in loopback test modes . 5.1 POWER-UP T o apply power to the Model 1088, first be sure that y ou hav e read sec- tion 4.
19 5.3 T EST MODES The Model 1088 off ers two proprietar y loopback test modes , plus a built- in V .52 BER test patter n generator to ev aluate the condition of the modems and the communication link. These tests can be activ ated phys- ically from the front panel.
