12 T elephone operation 12 Basic operation Handset locator If y ou misplac e the h andset( s), pre ss HAND SET LOCA TOR at the base. This starts the paging tone at the ha ndset(s ) for 60 seco nds to help y ou locate it.
13 T elephone operation 13 Options while on calls V olume control Press V or ^ on the VOLUME button on the side of the handset to adjust listening volume. Each button press raises or lo wers v olume by one le vel. When you change the v olume level, the new setting is sa ved.

Y ou will be able to hear the person at the other end, but they will not be able to hear you until y ou press MUTE again and resume speaking. 25 Caller ID log Shared caller ID lo g The caller ID log is stored in the base, and is shared by all handsets. Changes made at any one handset will be reflected in all.

If the telephone number of the person calling exactly matches a number in y our directory , the name that appears on scr een will match the name as you enter ed it into your dir ector y .

44 Appendix Appendix CONNECTING... displays on my cordless handset • Ensure that the base is powered up. • Place the cordless handset in the charger for one minute to allow the cordless handset and base to r esynchronize channels. • Move the cordless handset closer to the base.
45 Appendix T r oubleshooting I get noise, static, or weak signal even when I’m near the base • Other cordless phones and 802.11 wireless routers that ar e used for home computer networks both use internal radios to communicate.

Refer to the section(s) on ringer selection in this user’ s manual. • Make sur e the telephone line cord is plugged securely into the base unit and the telephone jack.
47 Appendix T r oubleshooting • Relocate your telephone base to a higher location. The phone will have better reception when not installed in a low ar ea. • If the other phones in your home are having the same problem, the problem is in your wiring or local service.
48 Appendix Incomplete messages • If a caller leaves a very long message, part of it may be lost when the system disconnects the call after four minutes. • If the caller pauses for more than seven seconds, the system stops recor ding and disconnects the call.
