Chapter 1. Introduction Overview The Master Vi ew CS-1772 and CS-1774 re pre se nt a revolutiona ry ne w di rection in KVM (Keyboard, Vi de o, Mouse ) Switches. The se two (CS-1772) and four (CS-1774) port USB KVM Switches incorpora te a two port USB Hub and an ethe rne t hub all in the same compact unit.

Port Numbering Each CPU port on the CS-1772 / CS-1774 switch is assi gne d a port num be r (1 or 2 for the CS-1772; 1 to 4 for the CS-1774). The port numbe rs are m a rke d on the rear panel of the switch (see p. 7). The Port ID of a comput er is de ri ve d from the CPU port num be r it is conne cted to.

Chapter 3. Port Switching There are two convenient methods to switch the KVM, USB hub, and audi o foc us among the ports: Ma nua l - whi ch involves pressi ng the pushbutton port se l ect i on switches l oc a t e d on t he uni t’s front pane l ; and Hot ke y - whi ch involves ent e ri ng combinati ons from the keyboard.
Cycling Through the Ports Hotkey Action [Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock] [Enter] Brings the KVM, USB hub, and audio focus from the port that currently has the KVM focus to the next port on the installation (1 to 2; 2 to 1 for the CS-1772; 1 to 2; 2 to 3; 3 to 4; 4 to 1 for the CS-1774).
Going Directly to a Port Hotkey Action [Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock] [n] [Enter] Brings the KVM, USB hub, and audio focus to the computer attached to the port corresponding to the specified Port ID. Note that the KVM, USB hub, and audio focus all go to this port even if they were on different ports to begin with.
Auto Scann ing The CS-1772 / CS-1774’s Auto Scan feature au t omatically cyc l es the KVM focus through the comput er port s at re gul ar i nt e rva l s. Thi s al l ows you to m oni t or t he computer activi t y wi t hout having to take t he t roubl e of switching from port t o port manuall y.
Chapter 4. Hotkey Setting Mode Invoking Hotkey Setting Mode Hotkey Sett i ng Mode is used to set up your CS-1772 / CS-1774 swi t ch confi guration. All operations begin with i nvoking Hotkey Setti ng Mode (HSM). To invoke HSM do the followi ng: 1. Press and hold down the Num Loc k ke y 2.
Alternate HSM Invocation Keys An alternate set of HSM invoca tion ke ys is provi de d in case the default set confl icts with programs runni ng on t he com put ers. To switch to the alternate HSM invoc ation set, do the following: 1. Invoke HSM (see above ) 2.
Keyboard Operating Platform The CS-1772 / CS-1774’s defaul t port configurat i on i s for a PC Com patible ke yboa rd operating plat form. If your requi rements call for di fferent port settings (you have a Mac or Sun attached to a port, e.g. ), you can cha nge a port’s keyboard ope ra t i ng platform configuration as fol lows: 1.
List Hotkey Settings To see a listing of th e current hotke y settings, do the following: 1. Invoke HSM (see p. 17). 2. Press and release the F4 function ke y. 3. Open a text editor or word processor and use i t s Past e function to di spl ay t he settings.
Disable Port Switching Keys To disable the Port Swi tching Keys ([Scroll Lo ck] [Sc roll Lock] / [Ctrl ] [Ct rl ]), do the following: 1. Invoke HSM (see p. 17). 2. Press [X] [Enter] . Note: This procedure is a t oggl e. To ena bl e t he Port Swi t c hi ng keys repeat st eps 1 and 2.
HSM Summary Table After invoking HSM (see p. 17), ke y in one of the following keys to pe rform the corresponding functi on: Key Function H Toggles between the default and alternate HSM invocation keys. T Toggles between the default and alternate Port Switching keys.
Chapter 5. Keyboard Emulation Sun Keyboard The PC compatibl e (101/ 104 ke y) keyboard can emulat e t he func t i ons of t he Sun keyboard when t he Cont rol key [Ctrl] i s use d in conjuncti on with othe r ke ys. T he corresponding functi ons are shown i n t he t abl e below.
Mac Keyboard The PC compati bl e (101/ 104 key) keyboard can emul at e t he func t i ons of t he Ma c keyboard. The em ul at i on m appings are li st e d i n t he t a bl e be low. Note: When using key com bi na tions, pre ss and re lease the first ke y, then press and release the second one .
Chapter 6. The Firmware Upgrade Utility The Windows-based Firm ware Upgrade Utility (FWUpgrade.exe) provides a smooth, automated process for upgra ding the KVM switch’s firmware. The Utility comes as part of a Firm wa re Upgrade Packa ge tha t is specific for each device.
Starting the Upgrade To upgrade your firm ware: 1. Run the downl oa ded Firmwa re Upgra de Package fi le - either by doubl e cl i cking the file icon, o r by op ening a command line and enter ing the fu ll path to it. 3. Click Next to continue. The Fir mware Upgrade Utility main screen appears: M The Utility inspects your installation. All the devices capable of be ing upgraded by the p ackage are listed in the Device List panel. M As you select a de vi ce in the l i st , its desc ri ption appea rs i n t he Device Descript ion panel .
4. After you have made your devi ce se lection(s), Cl i c k Ne xt to perfo rm the upg rade. M If you enable d Check Firmware Version , the Utility compar es the dev ice’s firmware leve l with that of the upgra de files.
Upgrade Succeeded After the upgrade ha s complete d, a sc re en appears to inform you t ha t t he proc edure was successful. Click Finish to close the Firm ware Upgrade Utility. After a successful comple tion, the swi tch exits Firm wa re Upgrade Mode and re sets itself.
