Chapter 2. Installation Before you Begin Avoid Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) Electrostatic discharge (E SD) can damage the IP9001 card and ot he r system components.
Installation Overview Installation of the IP9001 card ta ke s the fol lowi ng st eps: Step Action 1 Unpack the IP9001 card ( and chec k jumper settings ) 2 Install the optional battery and battery cli.
1. Unpack the IP9001 card ( and check jumper settings ) Card Layout Diagram MAC Address Each IP9001 card has a unique MAC address. The MAC address is the onl y wa y to distinguish one IP9001 card from anothe r whe n you run progra m s suc h as Re m ot e Recovery Application (RRA) a nd Ra cTre ndsSe ek Loc a tor.
Check the Jumpers Check that t he card’s j um pe rs m at c h t he de scripti on i n t he fol l owi ng t a bl e: Jumper Setting JP4 Pins 1 and 2: Open JP5 Pins 1 and 2: Open JP6 Pins 1 and 2: Open JP.
JP7 and JP8 - Chassis/Mo th erb oard Reset Sw itch : Verify that the re is no jum pe r on JP7 and JP8. The se two he aders are to be use d wi th a cable, not a jumper. JP11 - Flash Write Enable/Di sab le: You can write-protect your IP9001 card’s fi rm ware so that i t cannot be flashe d.
JP12 - Recovery Mode: This jumper is primarily use d to re cove r a failed flash attemp t. By shorting pi ns two and three, you can place your IP9001 card into Recov ery Mode . See Appe ndix C, Remote Recovery Application (RRA) for more information on how t o re cove r your IP9001 card.
2. Install the Optional Battery and Battery Clip The IP9001 on-board batt e ry ba ckup is an optiona l com pone nt. When the opt ional battery is i nst al l e d, your IP9001 card can st ay powe re d on for 30 m i nut es wi t hout any external power from the host system or AC adapter.
Charging the Battery Pack The optional battery pa ck is shipped uncha rged. The IP9001 card aut omatically starts to charge the ba ttery aft er you i nst all it. You must charge the ba ttery pa ck be fore it can be used to provide backup power to th e IP9001 card.
Changing the Battery Pack The optional IP9001 battery pa ck must be re pl aced eve ry 400 cyc les. Cells re tain 80% of their ori gi na l capa c i ty afte r 400 c yc l e s . A c yc le is de fi ned as a ful l c ha rge (4.2V) followed by a full di scharge (2.
3. Install the Opti onal Modem Daughterboard The IP9001 modem daughterboa rd is an opt ional com pone nt . Loc ate JP10 on the IP9001 card. It has a seri es of pinholes t ha t al l ow you t o inse rt the modem daughterboard. Ma tch the m odem daught erboa rd and the pi n hol es so that the pi ns align properly.
J5 - IPMB (Intelligent Platform Management Bus) If your motherboard has an IPMB conne ct or, you can conne ct a cable from J5 on t he IP9001 card to the IPMB connector on your moth e rboa rd.
J9 - IP9001 Feature Connector This feature connector is pri mari ly use d for operating the host system’s motherboa rd power and reset swi t c h. It can also be used to ga t he r I2C bus i nform at ion from the motherboard.
JP2 - Serial Port Connector You can connect an externa l 9 pi n serial port connect or t o thi s he ade r. Thi s he ade r is primaril y use d t o t e xt re direct ove r the seri al port . JP3 - Service Connector This jumper is use d exc l usi ve ly for servici ng the IP9001 card.
5. Connect External Cables 1. Connect the USB cable from the back of the IP9001 card to the motherboa rd’s USB port. 2. Connect your VGA moni tor to your IP9001 card. 3. Connect the RJ45 LAN cable from your local network to your IP9001 card. 4. Connect your phone cord from the back of the IP9001 card to the telephone wall outlet.
7. Install the Operati ng System and IP9001 Drivers 1. Install the operating syst em (i f applicabl e ) on the host syst em. 2. ( Windows 2000/2003/XP onl y ) W he n prom pt e d for t he Vi rtual Fl oppy dri ve rs, install t he IP9001 card’s Vi rtual Fl oppy dri vers loca t ed i n t he INF folder on t he IP9001 CD.
The first time you run windows after installi ng the card, the Found New Hardware Wizard comes up: 1. Select Install from a spe cific location , then click Next . 2. Select the virtfl.in f file, located in th e INF directory on t he IP9001 CD. If prompted with t he Windows Logo di alog box, c l i ck Continue Anyway .
As the Hardware Update Wizard loads the vi rtual floppy dri ver from the IP9001 CD, the instal l a ti on progre ss st atus is displaye d. 3. Once the file is loaded, click Finish to complete the installation. (Windows may require a reboot of the host system after th e installation of the virtual floppy driver.
8. Install the Wi ndows Software Components The Windows Software Components com prise a coll ection of host -si de and remote access programs. Their functions are bri efl y expl ained in the followi ng tabl e: Program Description ConfigApp Allows you to confi gure the IP9001 card ei ther from the host system or from a client system.
To install the Windows Software Components , do the fol lowing: 1. Insert the IP9001 CD into the host system (the one with the IP9001 card); and navigate to the CDROM ServerAgent sWin32 folde r; and doubl e click Setup.exe . The Installshield Wizard com e s up.
5. When the Install Program window opens, click Install : 6. When the installation is co mplete, click Finish to complete the procedure: 7. Repeat steps 1 - 6 for any loca l ne t work com put ers you wi sh to use to access the host system.
9. Setup Your Client Internet Browser Before you can redire ct the host system’s consol e or vi ew the Crash scre en, you must first set up your Interne t browse r on the clie nt system. To do so, fol low the steps, below: 1. Open your Internet Expl ore r browse r.
3. In the Settings window, select E very vi si t to the page or Automat ically ; then click OK to apply th e change an d to go back to th e Internet Opti ons dialog box: Note: Other settings can cause ol d da ta to be displ aye d whe n pe rform ing operations on the IP9001.
5. In the Security Settings dialog box, in the Download signe d Act iveX cont rols section select Enable : 6. Scroll down to the Run Ac t iveX cont rol s and pl ug-i ns section.
7. When the Warning! dialog box come s up, c l i c k Ye s to accept the chan ges and go back to th e Internet Options di alog. 8. Click Apply , then click OK to complete the ch anges: Note: 1. You must restart Internet E xpl orer before t he cha nges take effe ct .
10. Connecting From a Client System In order to connect to the IP9001 card, you must access the IP9001 from another system on the same network (re ferre d to in thi s manua l as the client system ). T o do this, you must know t he IP9001 card’s IP addre ss.

8. The login sc reen come s up: The default User Name is root ; the default password is superuser (both in lower case). Note: When you log in using this use r na me and pa ssword, you have ful l administra tive prive legess. For se curi ty purposes, we st rongly advise you to change the root pa ssword.
11. Load the SDR and Soft Processor (SP) File This is an opti ona l proc edure and require s a custom fi l e spe ci fi c to your motherboard. To load the SDR and Soft Proc essor (SP) fi le, do the fol lowi ng: 1. Select Configure from the me nu ba r at the top of the IP9001 GUI, then select PMCP Health Configurat ion from the menu: 2.
3. Starting from the IP9001 CD, browse to th e folder that cont ains your SDR fi le. Note: You can create your own SDR and Soft Proc essor (SP) Fi les usi ng the Platform Management Conf igurat ion Program (PMCP). 4. Select the SDR file (it will end in -sdr.

Chapter 3. Locating the IP9001 Card Overview IP9001 cards can be accessed from anywhere on your Intrane t vi a an Internet browser, allowi ng you t o ma int a i n your crit i cal se rve rs from a physically rem ot e location. Thi s cha pt e r expl ai ns how t o loc a t e t he IP9001 card on your l oc al ne twork.

Chapter 4. Browser Operation Overview The IP9001’s user-friendly Gra phics User Inte rfa ce (GUI) is accesse d wi th a st anda rd Internet browser. Spe cify the IP9001’s IP address i n your browse r’s Loc a t or ba r, and you can be up and running in a mat t e r of m i nut es.
After you have successful ly logge d in , the IP9001 Main Scre en appe ars: M The Menu Bar at t he t op of t he sc reen consists of t hre e items: Ma nage, Configure , and View. Clic ki ng a m e nu i t em cause s a drop down list of subm enu choi ces.
Chapter 5. The Manage Menu Overview When you cli c k Manage on the menu bar, its subm enu drops down: A brief d escription of the items is giv en in the table b elow: Item Description Remote Console S tarts a remote consol e session wi th the host system.
Remote Console The Remote Consol e subm enu offers three c hoices for re m ot e consol e di spl ay as shown in the figure and t a bl e be low: Item Description High Color Quality (16-bi t) for fast/LAN Connecti on Allows the IP9001 to send 16 bi ts per pixel c olor.
Console Redirection The most powerful feat ure of the IP9001 is the ability to redire ct the host system’s console - giving you the ability to ma nage your host syst em as if you were actually right in front of i t . Internet Explorer Setup Before you can pe rform redire c t i on, you must first set up Inte rnet Expl ore r.

The Console Redirection Screen Several drop down menus to manage the host system are arra nge d across the screen. The next sections de scribe th e func tions of each of the menu items.
The Keyboard Menu: Under console redire ction some ke yst roke s ca nnot be capt ure d and se nt to the host system - the items on this menu provide the keystroke functi onality to the host system.
The View Menu: This View menu contains on e item: Toolbar . Clicking Toolbar bri ngs up the Console Redirection tooba r. The Consol e Re di re ction toolbar is di sc ussed in detail on p. 50. The Macros Menu: Record New Macro all ows you t o record a se t of keystroke s.
The Console Redirection Toolbar Clicking Toolba r on the Vi ew menu bri ngs up the Consol e Re direction toolba r: The toolbar al l ows you t o pe rform consol e re di re ction funct i ons m ore conve niently when you are in full sc re en mode and the m e nus are not vi sible.
Toolbar Icons The function that each of the tool ba r icons pe rforms is desc ri be d in the table below: Icon Description Toggles Consol e Redirection On and Off. Upgrade Firmware The Upgrade Firmware utility provides an easy, convenient method to upgrade the IP9001’s firmware : To begin, click the Upgrade Firmware entry on the Ma na ge menu to bri ng up t he opening dial og box: Note: 1. Upgrading the fi rm ware is a cri t i cal procedure.
To update the IP9001’s fi rmware, do t he followi ng: 1. Click Enter Firmeare Upgrade Mode . The foll owi ng di alog box appe a rs: 2. In the dialog box t ha com es up, cli c k Browse t o na vi gate t o whe re the firm wa re upgrade file (*.

5. The up grade utility star ts the uplo ad of th e new firmwar e file and checks it for integrity. After it verifies the imag e file, it displays the f ollowing message: Click OK to move on.

Chapter 6. The Configure Menu Overview When you cli c k Conf igure on the menu ba r, its subm enu drops down: Item Function Use rs Administer users that c an access the IP9001 and host system.
