Customizing Y our Navi gation System The behavior of your navigation system de- pends on a number of settings. If you need to change any of the initial settings (default settings), read the relevant section of this chapter . Using the AV Source (Built-in DVD Drive and Radio) Describes how to use DVD-Video, CD, ROM, DivX and the radio.

Data communication function with XM tuner If you connect the optional XM tuner (GEX- P10XMT) to the navigation system, you can use traffic information as a part of the naviga- tion function.
About A VCHD recorded discs This unit is not compatible with discs recorded in AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Defi- nition) format. Do not insert AVCHD discs. If inserted, the disc may not be ejected. About Dual layer disc The unit cannot play back DVD-R/-RW discs that are written in Layer Jump Recording mode.
! There may be a slight delay when starting playback of WMA files encoded with image data. About AAC AAC is short for Advanced Audio Coding and refers to an audio compression technology standard used with MPEG -2 and MPEG-4.

1 Press and hold OPEN/CLOSE button. Flap Setup screen appears. 2 T ouch [Flap Set Back]. T ouching [ Flap Set Back ] switches between [ On ] and [ Off ]. Setting the automatic open function When you do not wish the display to open/ close automatically, you can set the automatic open function to the manual mode.
About NA VI MENU and A V MENU The methods for displaying NAVI MENU , used for navigation operations, and A V MENU , used for AV operations, are different depending on which screen is currently displayed.
Basic flow of operation 1 P ark your vehicle in a safe place, and apply the parking brake. j 2 Insert the P ioneer DVD Map Disc to the disc loading slot. j 3 P ress MAP button to display the map screen. j 4 P ress MENU button to display NAVI MENU . j 5 T ouch [ Destination ] to display Destination menu.
7 Input the house number and touch [OK]. T ouch the characters you wish to input. : The input text is deleted letter by letter from the end of the text. Continuing to this will de- lete all of the text. Back : Returns you to the previous screen. p Y ou may also input a prefix to the house number .
In the selected area, if you touch [ City ] without entering the name of the city or area, you can set the cities or areas that you have searched in the past from the list. (This function is not available in the first time and when you have selected an area that you have never searched before.
! Y our destination = If you want to search for another route, refer to Recalculating the Route to Y our Des- tination on page 55. = If you want to cancel the route guidance, refer to Canceling the Route Guidance on page 53. p T ouching the allows you to hear the information again.
Basic A V Source This section describes basic AV operations, such as adjusting the volume, switching the source and stopping the source, using CD op- erations as an example. Selecting an A V source 1 Press VOLUME knob (or A V button) to switch to the AV operation screen.
T ur ning the source off 1 Press VOLUME knob (or A V button) to switch to the AV operation screen. 2 Press MENU button to change to A V MENU. 3 T ouch [OFF] in A V Source screen. p P ress and hold VOLUME knob to switch the source to mute. How to listen to a CD Y ou can listen to an audio CD by removing the DVD Map Disc from the navigation system.
Y ou can also per form fast rewind/fast forward by holding o or p button on the hard- ware. 7 T o hide the touch panel key , touch [Hide]. This section describes the basic navigation op- erations, including how to display NA VI MENU and how to use Shortcut menu and the map screen. How to Use Menu Screens There are two types of navigation menu: “ NA VI MENU ” and “ Shortcut menu ” .
Settings menu Set the navigation functions so they can be used easily . = For details concerning operations, refer to Chapter 6. 3 If you want to return to the map, press MAP button.
How to Use the Map Most of the information provided by your navi- gation system can be seen on the map. Y ou need to get to know how the information that appears on the map. Switching the current position screen display mode There are four types of map display and two additional view modes.
Guide View Overlays two arrows onto the standard map ( “ Map View ” ). 1 5 g 4 a8 2 f b ch 6 7 93 Route View Displays the name of the street you will travel along next and an arrow indicating the direc- tion of travel. 1 5 g d 4 a8 2 f b c h 6 7 9 3 V ehicle Dynamics Display Indicates the status of your vehicle.
Enlarged map of the intersection When [ Close-up of Junction ]i n Settings menu is [ On ], an enlarged map of the junction appears. When driving on a freeway , a special guide illustration is displayed.
= Refer to Changing the scale of the map on this page. 8 Map scale The scale of the map is indicated by dis- tance. = Refer to Changing the scale of the map on this page. 9 TRAFFIC icon This appears when an XM tuner (GEX- P10XMT , sold separately) is connected, and traffic information is received.
p In memor y navi mode and/or when traver- sing an area not stored on the disc, selec- tion of the scales is limited. Direct scale key p The icon of a registered location and the traffic information icons are displayed when the map scale is 10 miles (20 km) or lower .
2 T ouch . Information for a specified location appears. The displayed information varies according to the location. (There may be no information for that location.) = For details, refer to Editing Registered Loca- tions on page 62. = For details, refer to Displaying Certain POI on the Map on page 57.
CAUTION For safety reasons, these route-setting functions are not available while your vehicle is in motion. T o enable these functions, you must stop in a safe place and put on the parking brake before setting your route (refer to Parking brake interlock on page 20).
Finding a POI in your surroundings Y ou can search for P oints Of Interest in your surroundings on the map. Use it to find a POI to visit during a journey . 1 T ouch [Destination] in NAVI MENU, and then touch [Vicinity Search]. 2 T ouch the desired category .
p [ Vicinity Search ]i n NA VI MENU searches your surroundings. On the other hand, when using in Shortcut menu ( d P age 43), the area around the scroll cursor will be searched. Setting an Entrance or Exit of a Freeway as Y our Destination Y ou can set the entrance or exit of a freeway as your destination.
1 T ouch [Destination] in NAVI MENU, and then touch [Address Book] or [Destination History]. 2 T ouch your destination name. Route calculation starts. p Y ou can also see the destination by touch- ing on the right of the list. = For details concerning operations, refer to When appears to the right of the list on page 49.
p If there are multiple way points, selecting [ W ay Point ] displays a list of the way points on the route. T ouch the place you want to start scrolling from. 4 T ouch or to scroll the map. T o continue scrolling after you release your fin- ger , touch and hold or .
1 T ouch the map screen. Shortcut menu appears. 2 T ouch . 3 T ouch [Route Profile] or [Route Scrol l]. = About “ Route Profile ” , refer to Checking the set route by text on the previous page. = About “ Route Scroll ” , refer to Checking the set route with the map on page 53.
Add : Switch the display to search for points. After searching for a point, display it on a map, then touch [ OK ] to add to the way points. (Y ou can add up to 5 way points in total.) Delete : Y ou can delete way points from the list. (Y ou can delete way points successively.
p If you select [ Map Search ], move the scroll cursor to the place you want to set and touch [ OK ]. 5 Change the map scale and decide the size of the Area to Avoid. The Area to avoid is enclosed in a red frame. Y ou can also change the map scale though the maximum map scale for registering Areas to Avoid is 0.
p If you touch one of the POI shortcuts (e.g. ), you can start searching for POI directly in the selected category on the POI short- cut. 3 Press MAP button. POI ’ s in the selected categor y appear on the map. p Y ou can also display POI by using Shortcut menu if [ Overlay POI ] is selected on [ Short-Cut Selection ].
Modifying the Route Calculation Conditions Y ou can change the route calculation condi- tions using Route Options menu. The follow- ing description features an example of changing the number of routes to be searched. 1 T ouch [Route Options] in NA VI MENU.
Calculate a route that may include ferries. p The system may calculate a route that in- cludes ferries even if [ On ] is selected. Avoid T oll Road This setting controls whether toll roads (in- cluding toll areas) should be taken into ac- count. On : Calculate a route that avoids toll roads (includ- ing toll areas).
p After the route is calculated, it may take some time until the detailed route informa- tion ( Route Profile ) is displayed. 5 T ouch [OK]. The route you selected is accepted, and the map of your surroundings appears. When you start driving, the route guidance begins.
CAUTION For safety reasons, you cannot use some of these navigation functions while your vehicle is in mo- tion. T o enable these functions, you must stop in a safe place and apply the parking brake (refer to P arking brake interlock on page 20). Editing Registered Locations Address Book can store up to 300 registered locations.
2 T ouch on the right-hand side of the place you want to register in Address Book. : The map of that place can be displayed. = For details concerning operations, refer to When appears to the right of the list on page 49. 3 T ouch [Registration]. 4 T ouch [Save].
5 Sound The selected operating sound is played. 6 Modify Location Y ou can change the registered location by scrolling the map. 4 T ouch [Save]. Completes the registration. Changing a name 1 T ouch [Edit Name]. 2 Enter a new name; touch [OK]. The name of the current location appears in the text box.
p Because deleted data cannot be restored, take extra care not to select [ Delete All Ad- dress Book Entries ] and [ Delete All Desti- nations ] by mistake. Changing the position of locations registered in Address Book Y ou can select a location registered in Ad- dress Book , display a map of its surroundings and change its position.
Using XM NavT raffic Information If you have a GEX-P10XMT XM Digital Satellite Data & Audio Receiver (sold separately) at- tached to the navigation system, and have an active subscription to XM NavT raffic service, you can view current traffic conditions and in- formation on your navigation display.
p T ouching an incident you want to see allows you to view the detailed information of the incident. If the information cannot be dis- played on one screen, touch or to view the remaining information. 4 T ouch [Back] to return to the list with traffic information.
Distance from the current position of your vehicle to the point of entr y into the new route Difference in distance and travel time betw een existing route and new route On this screen, you can select the following items: New : A new route is displayed on the screen.
T raffic flow information When the map scale is between 0.02 mile (25 m) to 0.75 mile (1 km), red, yellow , or green blinking lines may appear on either side of a road. These colors indicate the average speed at which traffic is flowing along these streets.
p T ouch [ Back ] to not add the selected traffic information. 4 T ouch [Done]. The selected traffic information icon is added to the screen. p The following types of traffic congestion cannot be deselected and are always dis- played: stop and go, stopped traffic, and closed/blocked roads.
p The method for inputting the text is the same as for inputting street names. Refer to How to set your destination by ad- dress on page 35. p If the input ticker symbol does not match the actual ticker symbol for the stock com- pletely , you may not be able to find it.
1 Store the desired item (topic). = Refer to Storing browsable information on the previous page. 2 T ouch [Info/T raffic] in NA VI MENU, and then touch [My Favorites]. A list of registered items (topics) appears on the screen. T ouch the item to display informa- tion about this item.
WARNING The Emergency Info screen is only intended to provide information to a driver that may be useful during an emergency situation, and does not re- place the need to call for emergency assistance, when necessary. Checking the information register ed as Emergency Info % T ouch [Info/T raffic] in NA VI MENU, and then touch [Emergency Info].
4 Input the number you wish to register , and then touch [OK]. Edit VIN : Register your Vehicle ’ s Identification Number . (Y ou can enter between 1 and 17 digits.) Edit Policy number : Register your insurance policy number . Edit Insurance Phone : Register your insurance company ’ s phone number .
5 T ouch the name of the facility to set the route you want. Displays the route to the selected facility . When appears to the right of the list Y ou can also set a destination by touching to the right of the destination list such as Ad- dress Book . T ouch [ OK ] to confirm.
p Progressive format JPEG pictures cannot be used. 1 Insert a disc to the disc loading slot. 2 T ouch [Settings] in NAVI MENU, then touch [System Options]. 3 T ouch [Background Picture Setting]. The picture selected for each screen is indi- cated on the right side of [ Splash Screen ], [ Navigation Background ] and [ A V Back- ground ] items.
Until the sensor ’ s initial learning is complete, only the voltage and clock are displayed. 1 Switch to V ehicle Dynamics Display . = For details concerning operations, refer to Switching the current position screen display mode on page 44. 2 T ouch the left or right instrument.
4 Degree of learning Sensor learning situations for distance ( Dis- tance ), right turn ( Right T urn ), left turn ( Left T ur n ) and 3D detection ( 3D ) are indi- cated by the length of bars.
5 Power V oltage The power supply (reference value) provided from the vehicle batter y to the navigation system is shown. If the voltage does not fall within the range of 11 V to 15 V , check that power cable connection is correct. 6 Illumination When the headlights or small lamps of a ve- hicle are on, [ On ] is displayed.
CAUTION For safety reasons, you cannot use some of these navigation functions while your vehicle is in mo- tion. T o enable these functions, you must stop in a safe place and apply the parking brake (refer to P arking brake interlock on page 20).
On *: During voice guidance, the volume of the AV source is muted automatically . Off : V olume of the AV source stays the same dur- ing voice guidance. p When [ V oice Guidance ]i s [ On ], be sure to set [ Mute Input/Guide ] setting in AV MENU to [ Mute ]o r[ AT T ].
Short-Cut Selection Select shortcuts to display on the map screen. In the list displayed onscreen, the items with red checks are displayed on Shortcut menu . T ouch the shortcut you wish to display and then touch [ Done ] when a red check appears. Y ou can select up to three shortcuts.
T racking Display The tracking display setting has the following options. Always : Display tracking for all journeys. This T rip : Display tracking dots but erase them when the navigation system is turned off (when turning off the engine of your vehicle).
Continuously touching c , d , a or b allows you to rapidly scroll the map screen. p An area not stored in the DVD Map Disc cannot be memorized. Around Current Route : Sets the surrounding currently set route to the memor y area. The route to the destination will appear on screen.
Hardware Info T ouch [ Hardware Info ]i n Settings menu to display . Connection Status = F or details, refer to Checking the connec- tions of leads and installation positions on page 78. 3D Calibration = F or details, refer to Checking the Navigation Status on page 77.

2 Skip the chapter forward or backward T ouching p skips to the start of the next chapter . T ouching o once skips to the start of the current chapter . T ouching again will skip to the previous chapter . p Y ou can also select a chapter by pressing o or p button on the hardware.
p This function is available for DVD - Video. p Y ou can display the menu by touching [ Menu ]o r[ TOP M. ] while a disc is playing. T ouching either of these keys again lets you start playback from the location selected from the menu. For details, refer to the in- structions provided with the disc.
1 T ouch [Search] and then touch desired item. When playing a DVD, touch [ Title ] (title), [ Chapter ] (chapter) or [ Time ] (time). 2 T ouch 0 — 9 to input the desired num- ber . For titles and chapters ! T o select 3, touch 3. ! T o select 10, touch 1 and 0 in order .
T ouching [ B.Mark ]; Y ou can bookmark a point for every five disc. If you tr y to memorize a point for the same disc, the oldest bookmark will be replaced by the new one.
Displaying text information % T ouch . The next piece of information is displayed. ! Album Title (album title) ! T rack Title (track title) ! Folder Title (folder title) ! File Name (file name) ! Arti.
p If you select another folder during repeat play , the repeat play range changes to [ Disc ]. p If you per form fast forward/rewind during [ T rack ], the repeat play range changes to [ Folder ]. p When [ Folder ] is selected, it is not possi- ble to play back a subfolder of that folder .
2 Skip the file forward or backward T ouching p skips to the start of the next file. T ouching o once skips to the start of the current file. T ouching again will skip to the previous file. p Y ou can also select a file by pressing o or p button on the hardware.
% T ouch r during playback. Each time you touch r , you move ahead one frame. T o return to normal playback, touch f . p With some discs, images may be unclear during frame-by-frame playback. Slow motion playback This lets you slow down playback speed.
Playing DivX ® VOD content Some DivX VOD (video on demand) content may only be playable a fixed number of times. When you load a disc containing this type of DivX VOD content, the remaining number of plays is shown on-screen and you then have the option of playing the disc (thereby using up one of the remaining plays), or stopping.
2 T ouch [Band] to select a band. T ouch [ Band ] repeatedly until the desired band is displayed, FM1 , FM2 , FM3 or AM . 3 T o perform manual tuning, touch or briefly . The frequencies move up or down step by step. 4 T o perform seek tuning, keep touching or for about one second and re- lease.

T roubleshooting If you have problems operating your navigation system, refer to this section. The most common problems are listed below , along with likely causes and solutions. While this list is not comprehen- sive, it should answer your most common problems.
Y ou cann ot position your vehicle on the map or the positioning error is large. Something covers the GPS antenna. Do not cover the GPS antenna with spray paint or vehicle wax, because this may block the reception of GPS signa ls. Snow buildup can also degrade the signals.
A strange sound is heard when the vehicle comes close to a cer- tain place (e.g. Dog barking). The sound for the entry of [ Address Book ] is set. Set the sound setting of that entr y to [ No Sound ]. (P age 64) Slope is not displayed on V ehi- cle Dynamics screen.
No picture. The parking brake lead is not con- nected or applied. Connect a parking brake lead correctly, and apply the parking brake. P arking brake interlock is activated. P ark your vehicle in a safe place and apply the parking brake. (Page 20) [ A V1 Input ]o r[ AV2 Input ] setting is incorrect.
The picture stops (pauses) and the unit cannot be operated. Reading of data has becom e impos- sible during DVD playback. After touching g once, start playback once more. The picture is stretched, the as- pect is incorrect. The aspect setting is incorrect for the display .
Messages and how to react to them The following messages may be displayed by your navigation system. p There are occasions when you may see error messages other than those shown here. In such a case, follow the in- structions given on the display. Message When What to do (See) Please insert the appropriate disc.
System detected that the ver- tical angle of the installation has been changed. Learning status for Gyro Sensor has been initialized. If the mounting angle of the naviga - tion unit has been changed. Route calculation was not possible because no guidance can be provided around the destination or the starting point. The destination, way point(s) or starting point are in an area where no road exists (e.g. a mountain) and the route calculation is imposs ible.
This zone is not available on the disc. Please insert an ap- propriate disc. When areas not stored on the DVD Map Disc are included in the search. Set the destination or way point(s) in the countries stored on the DVD Map Disc, or re- place the DVD Map Disc and per form the search again.
• No map data available on this scale. Scaling up. • No map data available on this scale. Scaling down. When the scale that had been pre- viously displayed cannot be dis- played for the following reasons: • The disc was ejected and the sys- tem was changed to the memor y navi mode.
Error Messages When problems occur with AV source playback, an error message appears on the display . Refer to the table below to identify the problem, then take the suggested corrective action. If the error persists, contact your dealer or your nearest PIONEER Ser vice Center .
Anti-theft function Y ou can set a password for the navigation sys- tem. If the back-up lead is cut or RESET button is pressed after the password is set, the navi- gation system prompts for the password next boot up. If the incorrect password is entered, the navi- gation and AV functions cannot be performed.
Installing the Program The program is installed to the navigation sys- tem using the application disc. This is not necessary if your dealer al- ready performed the installation. When installing the program, you carr y out the following operations. When all the setup procedures are completed, you can use the navigation system.
Some time is needed until navigation is ready. 5 Check the details of the caution mes- sage and touch [OK]. 6 T o set the time difference, touch [+] or [-]. How do GPS and dead reckoning work together? F or maximum accuracy, your navigation sys- tem continually compares GPS data with your estimated position as calculated from the data of 3D Hybrid Sensor .
When the positioning by GPS is impossible ! If signals cannot be received from more than two GPS satellites, GPS positioning does not take place. ! In some driving conditions, signals from GPS satellites may not reach your vehicle. In this case, it is impossible for the system to use GPS positioning.
! If there is another road ver y nearby , such as in the case of an elevated freeway . ! If you take a recently opened road that is not on the map. ! If you drive in zig-zags. ! If the road has connected hairpin bends. ! If there is a loop or similar road configura- tion.
! If you enter or exit a multi-storey parking lot or similar structure using a spiral ramp. ! If your vehicle is turned on a turntable or si- milar structure. ! If your vehicle ’ s wheels spin, such as on a gravel road or in snow . ! If you put on chains, or change your tires for ones with a different size.
Some types of vehicles may not output a speed signal while driving at just a few kilo - meters per hour . In such a case, the current lo- cation of your vehicle may not be displayed correctly while in a traffic congestion or in a parking lot.
Route information ! If the set route goes through an area not stored on the disc, no route profile for that area will be displayed. (If the set route tra- verses both an area not stored on the disc and area stored on the disc, only the route profile within the area stored on the disc will be displayed.
! If the heater is used in cold weather , con- densation may form on components inside the DVD drive. Condensation may cause the DVD drive to operate incorrectly .
! Serious scratches can lead to playback pro- blems on this navigation system. In some cases, a DualDisc may become stuck in the disc loading slot and will not eject. T o prevent this, we recommend you refrain from using DualDisc with this navigation system.
