3 Before beginning to use VirtualDJ , f amiliarize yo urself with the controls and “zones” of the so f tware. Upon opening the application, an interface menu is displa yed. Inter fa ces ca lle d “skins” fe ature diffe r en t conf i gurations, l ayouts and functionality of the software.
4 The Browser Zone is t he area w here to n avigat e and o rganiz e f iles stored on a loc al, extern al, o r net w ork hard disk. T he browser co ntains the comp atible f il e types (i.e. wh ose extensions are associated with the decoders in VirtualDJ) to access the co mpatibl e extensions list.
5 Genres – provides a gene r ated tree o f G enre ty pes based on the im ported I D3 tag Genre f ield. By selecting on the va rious listed genres the file b rowser panel (2) only shows those entries that match the tag. History – p rovides access t o data store d about each session u se of VirtualDJ.

7 VirtualDJ supports ID3 tagging of M P3 a udio f iles and M P4 and MOV t agging of video f iles. VirtualDJ has a lw ays p rovi ded th e fa sts informati on access about on e’s collect i on by using VirtualDJ’s database. Add i ng direct tag access to every file consi derably slows applications ability f or timely b rowsi ng and searching.

11 The search field is located at the to p of t he brows er panel. To search t he files liste d in th e database, left click on the search fie l d then type your search text. Sea rc hing is i nstant and it is ge ne r ally not nece ssary to type t he text in its ent ire ty — a few l et ters are enough to reduce th e list to the sin gle title.
12 NetSearch is an online searching capability t ha t can provide the user with access to tracks not curr en tly in their collection. NetSe arch a lso leve r ages Virtua lDJ’s MusicGroup service for providing suggestions of other tracks that o ne could play b ased on the curr en t track playing.
13 Right clicking on a tr ack displays many options: • Preview – for launc hing the separate track previe w inte r face • File Info – fo r launching the File In f o dialog to mod i f y d ata f.
14 W ith the ‘Adjust BPM Values’ dialog you are provided several options to make the adjustments. EDIT BPM tab BPM – man ually move the value up or down in .1 increment s wit h the arrow bu tto ns. Or, qu ickly half o r double the shown value with the /2 and x2 butto ns.
15 The A utomix feature w orks f rom a single d eck. By d efault it is De ck 1; h owever, prior to starti ng the Automix if De ck 2 is select ed as the active deck then Deck 2 is used. By u tilizin g 1 deck this f rees the opposite deck for s taging the first song to be used on ce y ou decide to stop th e Automix process .
16 Playli st & Aut o mix M anage ment Using the Playlist managemen t menu by clicking on t he [ + ] ic on and choose f r om the available o ptions for how the automix will function and tracks are managed in the pla ylist .
17 Deck Waveform Display – M ix Point Markers W hen automix is active, the deck be i ng used for au tomix play will sho w both the current track ( top) playing and the ne xt track (bottom) t o be pla yed . The currently playing track will displa y a n EXIT mix point ma rker.
18 Even with the mix point markers ava ilable for o n-the-fly adjusts, the m ix p oints fo r a track c an b e set prior to using that track a s part of a auto mix playlist. Th e a djusted mix po ints ar e on ly ut ilize d whe n using the SM ART au tomix ty pe.
19 VirtualDJ incorporates its own v ersion of a waitlist called th e S idelist. T he Sid elist panel (4) can be u sed to hold t racks that yo u know will played sometime d uring your se ssion. 20 In order to simpli f y bro wsi ng a nd pr ovide be tte r an d r obust f ile management capability, VirtualD J provides three (3) me thods for the use r to organize the data ba s e.
21 Please note t hat dragging tracks into a virtual f older will n ot physically move the f iles into that fo lder — it will only create a shortcut to where th e f il es a r e located. To remove a virtual folder, right-click o n it and sel ect “remo ve.
22 The filter dia l og provides some great exa m ple s bu t to get it’s real power need to now what are the appropriate elem en ts, operators, and a fe w keyw ords that are used.
23 VirtualDJ’s interface p rovides access t o t w o vi rtual “decks”. To load a track t o a deck, d rag and drop f iles int o each o f the decks s pinning virtual pl atters. The two decks ar e equ i pped with the following controls and displays: 1.
24 4. Waveform display for currently - This vie w shows the vi sual waveform of the entire track, allows fo r viewing t he rem aining duration of th e a udio, a s well as w hat h as a lre ad y been played.
25 9. Pitch sli der / Pitch butt ons Controls the speed /pitch of the track wh en m oving th e slider. Moving it downw ard the speed o f the music speeds u p. By moving u pward the spee d slo ws dow n. The “Zer o” button lets you smoothly bring th e p itch ba ck to 100%.
26 VirtualDJ features an i nte r na l mix er section as p art of the Mixer panel. It can be used just lik e a regular DJ m ixer. The controls on th e mixer include: 1. Pane l s election butt ons 2. M aster and Headphone Cue vol ume knobs 3. Channel Gain This knob sets the g ain le vel for th e corresponding cha nnel (deck).

28 Above the p layers, a window p osts curves corresponding t o the two rates/rhyt hms of the music. These curves a re r epresented i n a w aveform, allowing yo u to see yo ur music. Th e peaks in the c urve represent b eats. In order to synchro nize the m usic, th ese peaks shoul d occur at the sam e time .

35 M aster T empo The m ast er tempo is t he algorithm controls h ow VirtualDJ chan ge s th e pitc h of t h e song without changing its ton e (“KeyLock feature”). The de fau lt “F ast ” a lgorithm takes only a small p ercentag e of t he CP U power, and p roduc es good results at pitch es in the range of - 10% to +10%.
36 VirtualDJ provides a very power f ul mapping capability to support almost any e xternal controller on the market tod ay. Utilizing d evice d efinition and m a pping f iles nat ively embedded in VirtualDJ and/or exte r nally hosted in VirtualDJ’s f ile struct ure and created by you, almost any co ntroller can be used wi th VirtualDJ.

46 VirtualDJ features a pow erfu l s ample r, w hich provides the ability to record, load, s ave and play samples on the fly. The sample r can be accessed by clicking on th e “Sampler” tab in th e lo w er wind ow and features 12 slots for sa m ples which are av ailab l e to u s e at any given poi nt i n time.
47 Samples can be played from the skin’s interface. T he sampler is f ound just below the ‘Effects’ int erface on the skin. Simply s e lect the sa mpl e f r om t h e pull-down menu, a nd then click o n the sa mpl e titl e to begin pla y. The f rame around the title will light up during p layb ack.

51 In addition t o being abl e to play music and o ther video content, Vir tualDJ allows provides support to play and mix karaoke f il es. VirtualDJ is compati ble with MP3+G, W AV+G, WMA+G, OG G+G, and .ZIP f iles. The tracks w ill appe ar with a “K” in its icon .
52 Bet w een Songs o Sho w Bitma p – a Bitmap can be used to display a background in be twee n each song played o Sho w Text – use to show informati on about specials or next song/singer between the songs. Use the X and Y coordinates f or where to display the text.

54 Record A udio “Record Audio” provides reco r ding a mix session t o a . W AV or . M P3 file direct to the system’s hard driv e. When the recording is completed, it can then be list ened to in VirtualDJ, ed i ted with a n audio editing application, or written to a CD using a CD burning software.

56 Broadcasti ng to the Internet (“Broadcast”) VirtualDJ p rovides a method fo r broadcasting the session in re a ltime on the Internet as a “webca st.”. This way people around the world c an listen to the mix session. Click on “Con f ig” to acc ess the configuration settings for rec ording a file.

Op de volgende pagina's van de handleiding Atomix Virtual DJ 6 leer je over alle kenmerken van het product en krijg je informatie over de werking.
