10 Switch Arm The arm (Figure 3) on w hi ch the push butt on swit c h i s locat ed is shipped i n the do w n po siti on. The arm should be pivot ed to upright posi tion as shown.
11 If the jointer i s t o be hard-wired, m ake sure the f uses hav e been removed or the breakers hav e been tri pped i n the ci rcuit t o w hi ch the s a w w i ll be connect ed. Pl ace a w ar ning pl acard on the f use holder or ci rcu i t breaker to prev ent it bei ng turned on whi le the machi ne i s being wired.

Remove the t hree cap nuts and f l at w asher s on the pul ley c o v er w i th a 9/16 w r ench, and rem o v e the guar d to ex pos e t he belt s and pull eys.
13 2. Place a str aight edge on the outf eed tabl e and ex tendi ng o v er the cut terhead, as shown in F i gure 13. 3. Roc k the cut terhead sli ghtl y so that a knif e ti p contacts the strai ght edge. If the knife ti p just contact s t he s t raight edge wit hout m o v ing the str aight edge, then the outf eed tabl e i s at the proper height.

15 5. It i s r eco m mended when repl aci ng kniv es that you clean the k n if e slots in t he cutt erhead. Rem ove t he gib al ong with t he gib scr ews , and rem o v e the two s pri ngs. Clean t he cutt erhead slot of any debr is or dust that might pre v ent the k nife from seati ng properly .
16 Replacin g Knife I nserts (H elical Cu tterhead) Joi nter knif e inserts are very sharp . Use care and proceed slowl y w hen wo rkin g w i th or around the cut t erhead . The hel ical cu t terhead i s a sol id steel des i gn that holds 44 two-si ded knif e inserts, and t w o rabbet k nif e inserts on the out board end of the cutt erhead.
17 Fence A djustm ents The f ence (A, Figur e 22) tilt s back w ar d and f orward to 45 degrees. I t has a 90-degree stop (B, Figure 22) and a 45-degre e stop (C, Fi gure 22). To tilt fe nce for w ard: 1. Loosen the l ock handl e (D, Figure 22) and til t the fenc e f orward using the handl e (E, Fi gure 22).
18 To ch eck and adjust the 45- d e g ree stop: 1. Loosen l ock handl e (D, Fi gure 22) and t ilt f ence until i t c ont ac t s the 45-degree s t op (C, Fi gure 22). 2. P lace a machi n i s t ’s protract or or simil ar devi ce set at 45 degrees on the t able and against t he f ence.
19 Han d Placem ent At the star t o f the cut, the left hand holds the workpiec e firml y against t he inf eed table and f ence, w hi le t he ri ght hand pushes the workpiec e tow ar d the kniv es. 20 Use push bloc ks t o rabbet cut whenev er possibl e. T he rabbet ing capaci ty is 3/4”. 1. Di sconnect m achi ne from pow er source. 2. Set f ence for desired widt h o f rabbet. 3. Chec k w i dth of the rabbet by measuri ng the dist ance f ro m the end of a knif e i n the cutt erhead to the f ence.

Check all screws and fastener s occa sional l y and keep them tightened securel y. Inspect cords; a cord t hat is fr ayed or damaged in any w ay shoul d be r eplaced imm ed i ately.

23 Wh etting Kniv es (Straigh t Cu tterhead) W hen knives becom e dull enough s o that it is noti ceabl e w hen cut ti ng, they shoul d be resharpe ned or repl aced. A sharp knif e w i ll work easier and l ast longer . The penal ty paid for a dull k nife is less bl ade lif e and greater wear and tear on all parts o f t he machi ne.
