Getting Started 1 Section 1: Getting Started THANK Y OU… ...for purchasing the Disc Publisher SE. Disc publisher is the perfect all-in-one solution for producing pr ofessional looking CD-R and DVD-R discs. A wide variety of disc formats are sup- ported, including audio CDs, V ideo Cds, data discs and more.

Getting Started 3 C. IDENTIFYING THE P ARTS F ront Panel and T op This illustration shows the Publisher and its components. The Robotic Disc T ransporter moves discs from the Input Bin, to a CD/DVD Recorder , to the printer , and finally to the Output Bin.
4 Getting Started W ith the cover closed, the Power/Ink Button turns the Publisher's power OFF if pressed and held for five seconds. Press it quickly to turn power back on. When alr eady powered on quickly pressing the power button will open and close the printer tray .
Getting Started 5 D. PC SY STEM REQUIREMENTS Before getting started, it is important for you to verify that your PC meets the minimum system requir ements. Here's what you need in order to successfully copy discs at 8x or above with the PTPublisher software: 〈 700 MHz or faster Pentium III/IV processor r unning W indows 2000 or XP .
6 Getting Started F . O VERVIEW OF OPERA TION Y our new Publisher is an automated, precision device intended for continuous-duty publishing of discs. The following is a description of the complete process of duplicating and printing a CD/DVD job on your Publisher: 1.
Getting Started 7 7. Once recor ding has started on the next round, printing will start with the recor ded disc from the pr evious round. This simultaneous printing and recor ding greatly incr eases the throughput of your Publisher . 8. Print time varies according to which print mode has been selected (Section 3-A).
8 Hardware and Softwar e Setup Section 2: Hardware and Software Setup Setup This section will describe the step-by-step process of setting up your Publisher . This includes information on how to load the supplies (ink and disc media) necessary to start producing discs.
Hardware and Softwar e Setup 9 d. The volume containing the operating system should be selected for installation. Click the Continue button. All components will be installed to their proper locations. e. Once the installation has completed, click Quit .
10 Hardware and Softwar e Setup Refer to the following steps when loading discs in to the Publisher: 〈 Open the front cover of the Publisher 〈 The Publisher will automatically position the cartridge carrier and Robotic Disc T ransporter to allow for easy access to the bin.
Hardware and Softwar e Setup 11 Step 3: Connecting the USB 2.0 Cable Connect the Publisher to your PC or Mac with your beige USB 2.0 Cable. If you are using a PC, after a few moments, W indows will tell you it has found new hardwar e and is looking for software to install it.
12 Hardware and Softwar e Setup When connecting USB to a Mac it may be necessary to Add the printer via the Printer Setup Utility . 1. Open the Printer Setup Utility located in the Applications - Utilities folder . 2. Click Add . Select the Disc Publisher XRP fr om the list of available printers.
Hardware and Softwar e Setup 13 Step 4: Installing the Ink Car tridge 〈 W ith the cover open, press the Power/Ink Button to move the Ink Cartridge Carrier to the load position. 〈 Open the cartridge cover by pressing down on the tab. 〈 Remove the ink cartridge from its packaging.
14 Creating Discs on a PC Section 3: Creating Discs on a PC There ar e two main components to creating discs, printing and burning. SureThing CD Labeler is used to design the printing on your discs. PTPublisher controls the r ecording and allows you to select the image to be printed to your discs.
Creating Discs on a PC 15 3 . The Publisher will close the drive and read the contents of the disc. It will display disc type (CD/DVD) and show the size of the disc in Megabytes. V erify this information is correct and click the next arr ow to continue.
16 Creating Discs on a PC 4A2 - Double Click on the file to add it to your project. Y ou may add any BMP , JPG or SureThing (.std) file. SureThing files ar e automatically formated correctly . BMP or JPG files should be 4.72" x 4.72" square.
Creating Discs on a PC 17 Choose the 120mm DiscT emplate from the window that appears. Using the buttons on the left navigation window , you may add your own background, choose a pre-made backgr ound, choose from several text effects or insert a pictur e.
18 Creating Discs on a PC 5. Y ou can edit the print settings for this file by changing the settings that appear . Several preset media types that correspond with the media availabe at our webstore ar e available from the Media dr op down box.
Creating Discs on a PC 19 B. USING PTPUBLISHER The PTPublisher program is divided into six ar eas. Refer to the following for a description of each area. 1. Open Project Panel This panel allows you to open a previously saved pr oject. It will also display the last few saved projects.

Important err ors such as low ink will be displayed here. Click " more status " to view status regar ding the printer , r ecorder drive, curr ently running jobs and job history log.
Creating Discs on a PC 21 C. CREA TING A PRINT LABEL USING SURETHING The SureThing Disc Labeler softwar e included with your Publisher is a great tool for cr eating professional looking discs. Y ou can use SureThing's Smart Designs to quickly label a disc, or easily import your own design in many popular file formats.
4A. Open the text panel by clicking the arrow on the text button. Add text by selecting one of the options below . T o cr eate text that follows the curve of the disc choose Add Circular T ext. 4B. Y ou may also choose from several SureThing smart designs.
Creating Discs on a PC 23 Click on the Disc Publisher SE icon with the right mouse button and select Printing Preferences . NOTE: The PTPublisher application allows you to adjust some of these set- ting directly thr ough the Add a Print file screen in that application.
24 Creating Discs on a PC Paper Size The paper size option will be set to CD for printing onto printable surface CDs and DVDs. The remaining options apply if you have purchased the business car d adapter kit. Non-printable Outer Mar gin Adjust this value to print all the way to the outer edge of a CD.
Creating Discs on a PC 25 NOTE: Exact color matching of the printed discs to the screen may never be possible since there ar e factors that affect this out of the drivers control. The surface of the disc r eacts with the ink in the cartridge to produce the color .
26 Creating Discs on a PC Center T he Print Image NOTE: Y our printer comes from the factory pre-calibrated to print the image in the center of the CD.
Creating Discs on a PC 27 5. Along the V ertical axis of the printed disc, find the number whose lines touch. For example, in the above illustration, Enter the number 2 into the V ertical box of the Calibration window and 0 for the Horizontal axis. 6.
28 Creating Discs on a PC Details Select the Details button for information on the drivers, firmware, alignment and number of discs printed with your Publisher . Click Reset Factory Default to set all print centering and cartridge alignment settings back to factory defaults.

32 Creating Discs on a Mac B. USING DISCRIBE 5.3 B.1 Star ting a Pr oject The initial Discribe starter window provides 3 pr oject types: Audio CD, Data CD and Copy CD / DVD. Choose one. Many more pr ojects are available once the data picker window is open.
Creating Discs on a Mac 33 Universal Disk Format (UDF). Use this project type to cr eate a data DVD for a Mac and a PC. DVD V ideo/Audio. This project type can be used to cr eate DVD videos from pr operly formatted V ideo_TS and Audio_TS folders on your hard drive.
34 Creating Discs on a Mac B.4 Queue Pr ojects T o queue a project choose the Queue Job button at the bottom of the Data Picker window instead of the Burn button. If you have not yet saved your project, you will be pr ompted to do so at this time. The Robot W rite W indow described in section 4B.
Creating Discs on a Mac 35 B.5 Robot Write Window For any project Use the Robot W rite W indow to choose the print file, change print quality settings and choose the number of copies in a project. Print settings ar e explained in more detail in section 4D.
36 Creating Discs on a Mac C. PRINTED LABEL FORMA T REQUIREMENTS Y our printer driver allows you to create labels in most any graphics application. The driver will center the image and automatically crop it to the shape of a CD. This means you do not necessarily need a template to create a CD in your favorite graphics program.
Creating Discs on a Mac 37 D. AD V ANCED PRINTER DRIVER FUNCTIONS The following section will examine the printer driver settings that affect the print quality of your discs. While the default settings will fit most printing needs, it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with these settings to optimize your print quality .
38 Creating Discs on a Mac Print Settings Click Print Settings to see the driver window and all of its settings. Click the Copies and Pages button and select Publisher Settings option in the drop-down menu to see the full pane and access all the printer driver settings.
Creating Discs on a Mac 39 Photo mode is best used for photographic images where accurate color repr oduction is very essential. Images printed in this mode will look lighter than those printed in Photo mode. Skin tones especially will look more natural in this mode.
40 Creating Discs on a Mac • Restore Defaults The Restore Defaults button will r estore the driver settings to the factory defaults. • Config Utility This button launches the Configuration Utility . The Configuration Utility is a program that installs with your Publisher software.
Creating Discs on a Mac 41 Y ou will see the Color Ink Level is displayed. The Color Ink Level repr esents the lowest color in your cartridge. For instance, if your cartridge has 80% cyan 50% yellow and 65% magenta ink remaining, the level r eported would be 50%.
42 Creating Discs on a Mac Image Alignment The Image Alignment button will allow you to nudge the image up, down, left, or right on your disc. T o center the image, click the Image Alignment button. Y ou will be prompted with a choice to print a test print or simply enter val- ues to nudge the image alignment on the disc.
Creating Discs on a Mac 43 Once the print has finished, you will see the following dialog box: Look at the finished alignment disc and pick the numbers that come closest to lining up with one another . For instance, on the disc shown in this manual, the vertical alignment is 2 and the horizontal alignment is 0.
