Modulati on measures how well the scan laser sees the wi de elements (bars or s paces) rela tive to the narrow ele ments. In general , scanning l asers se e bars better than sp aces and wide elements better than the nar row elements .

Advanced Validator Options 65 The follow ing is a sample scan report of a Code 39, 10 mil bar code conta ining "*RJS 8702*" wi th a quiet zone vi olation: Scan Profile This is an execu table menu that prints the scan reflectanc e profile of a bar c ode placed in the val idator scan beam.

The distan ce is meas ured from th e bottom of one bar code to the top of the next bar cod e. The closest bar cod es can be located on two sepa rate labels or on th e same label.

Chapter 2 Bar Code Failures 80 Forms Printed After an Error Detection Because of physical differences between the l ocation of the printhead and the scanning beam, one or more forms may print after a bad form (a form with a bar code error that the vali dator detected).
Erro r Action 81 St o p If the val idator detec ts a bar co de failur e, the print job stops , the printer s tatus indic ator lamp flashes, th e alarm sounds , and the appropr iate error messa ge displays . The pr inter remai ns in a f ault conditi on until y ou press the PAUSE key.
Chapter 2 Bar Code Failures 82 If more than one fo rm is ov erstruck , only the first over struck form is lost (th e one with th e missing o r bad bar c ode), and a se parate pr int comm and is required to resend it from the host, if needed. The rest of the o verstruck for ms are auto matically resent.
Erro r Action 83 Grade&Report In this m ode, the ent ire print j ob will pri nt uninterrup ted. If on e or more er rors is dete cted, the p rinter sta tus indi cator lamp f lashes, the alar m sounds, an d the err or messag e “Bar cod e fail s / Job h as errors” d isplays.
Chapter 2 Bar Code Failures 84 Rescan&Retry This mode is sim ilar to Resc an Form w ith one exce ption: after the printer has resc anned the f orm and o verstruck it if there wa s still a fault, it wi ll reprint a nd rescan the same fo rm again.

These types of failures a re likely attribute d to large bl emishes within the bar cod e, caused by ribbon wrinkl e or deb ris on media .
