Important Information 5 If you use more than one phone or other device on the line, add up all of the RENs. If the total is more than five (three in rural areas), your telephones might not r ing. If ringer operation is impaired, remove a device from the line.

Important Caller ID Information 7 IMPORTANT CALLER ID INFORMATION To use Caller ID and Call Waiting, yo u must be in an area where those services are available and you must subscribe to those services through your local phone company.
Installation 8 The base’s location affects the handset’s ra nge. If you have a choice of several loca tions, try each to see which provides the best performa nce.
Installation 9 O N A W ALL P LATE OR W ALL To mount the phone directly on a wall, you ne ed two screws (not supplied) with heads that fit into the keyhole slots on the base and th e bracket. Drill two holes 3 15 / 16 inches apart. Thread a screw into each hole, letting the heads exte nd about 1 / 8 inch.
Installation 10 6. Plug the adapter into a stan dard A C outlet. And plug the modular cord’ s other end into a modular phone line jac k. 7. Raise the antenna to a v er tical position. S ETTING THE V ISUAL R INGER B RIGHTNESS The VISU AL RINGER switch allows you to set the brightness of the visual ringer LED on the base.
Installation 11 Recharge the battery pack when Low Battery flashes on the display. Ô When you first use the phone after charging or recharging the battery pack, the phone might not work and you might hear error beeps. If this happens, place the handset on the base to change the digital security code.
Installation 12 C HOOSING THE D IALING M ODE Most phone systems use tone dialing which sends DTMF tones through the ph one lines. However, some phone systems (such as those in rural areas) still use pulse dialing. The defau lt setting is tone dialing.

14 Operation A DJUSTING THE R INGER AND E ARPIECE V OLUME Base Ringer On/Off The RINGER switch allows you to set the base ringer on or off. If you set the switch to off, you never hear the base ringe r tone. Base Ringer Tone Press the RINGER T ONE button in standby mode to select one of 7 ringer tones.
Operation 15 T ONE D IALING S WITCH - OVER Some telephone companies use equip ment that requires pulse dialing (sometimes referred to as rotary dialing). If you need to enter tone dialing digits, yo u can switch-over to tone dialing during the call. For example, entering your bank account number after you have called you r bank.
16 Operation F LASH AND C ALL W AITING If you have “Call Waiting” service and a call waiting tone sounds while you are on a ca ll, press FLASH to accept the waiting call. There is a short pause. Then you will hear the new caller. To return to the original caller, press FLASH again.
Operation 17 Changing the Auto Talk and CIDCW 1. When the phone is in standb y mode, press MENU . 2. Use RING/V OL/+ or RING/V OL/- to mov e the pointer to the selection that y ou would like to change. Press SELEC T to toggle be tween ¨ On ¨ and ¨ Off ¨ fo r A uto T alk and CIDCW .
Memory Dialing 18 2. Press RING/V OL/- three times to select ¨ Language ¨. 3. Press SELECT to toggle between ¨ Eng ¨, ¨ Fr. ¨ and ¨ Esp ¨ f or each setting. 4. Press MENU or return the handset to the base unit to complete the setting. The handset returns to the standby mode .

Memory Dialing 20 S TEPS FOR E NTERING N AMES AND S PECIAL C HARACTER S Refer to the letters on the number keys to select the desired characters. With each press of a numeric key, the displa yed character appears in the following order: Uppe r case letters first, lower case letters next and finally the number corresponding to the key.
Memory Dialing 21 To continue to stor e the telephone number, proceed to step 7 on “Storing Phone Numbers and Names” on page 19. If you make a mistake while entering a name Use /T ONE/ or #/ to move the cursor to the incorrect character. Press DEL/CH to erase the wrong character.
Memory Dialing 22 C HAIN D IALING The memory locations on the handse t are not limited to phone numbers. Yo u can also store a group of numbers (up to 20 digits) that you need to enter once your call connects. This is ref erred to as Chain Dialing. An example of this is a bank account number.

After about two seconds , the displa y retur ns to the Select Memor y screen. Y ou may delete the inf or mation in another memory location (retur n to step 2) or press MEM to retur n to the standb y mode .

Caller ID 26 CALLER ID You must subscribe to Calle r ID service to use this feature. When the telephone rings, the Caller ID feature allows you to view the caller´s name and ph one number on the display before you answer the phone. The handset disp lays the phone number of the incoming call, the name , and time.
