5 Preparation ˆ Preparation INSTALLING BATTERIES Your thermometer requires two AAA bat- teries (not supplied) for powe r. For the best performance and longest li fe, we recommend RadioShack alkaline batter- ies. Cautions: • Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommende d type.
6 Preparation Follow these steps to i nstall batteries. 1. Slide the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow marked on the cover to remo ve it. 2. Place the batteries in the compart- ment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and - ) marked inside.
7 Preparation (if IN/OUT is set to IN ) or OUT and the outdoor temperature appear (if IN/ OUT is set to OUT ). 3. Replace the cover . When the display characters dim or dis- appear or the thermometer sto p s operat- ing prop erly, r eplace the bat teries.
8 Preparation Note: If the thermometer does no t oper- ate after you install the batterie s, simply remove and re-insta ll them. MOUNTING You can place the thermometer on a flat surface, or mount it on the wa ll using the supplied screw. For measuring the out- side temperature, the thermometer’s sen- sor cord extends up to 9.
9 Preparation Cautions: • Do not place the thermometer or remote sensor where they wil l be in direct sunlight. • Keep the thermomete r and sensor away from hot or cold sources such as stoves, heating and air condition- ing vents, and radiators. • Do not place the thermometer in water or in a location where it is likely to get wet.
10 Preparation Mounting the Thermometer To set the th er- mometer on a flat surface, slide t he built-in stand away from the back of the unit, then pull the stand up until it snaps into place. To mount the thermometer on a wal l us- ing the keyh ole slot on th e back of the thermometer and the supplied screw, fol- low these steps.
11 Preparation 2. Position the key- hole slot over the screw and slide the thermometer down to secure it. Mounting the Sensor You can mount the outdoor sensor using the supplied suction cup and attach it to a flat surface (such as a window). 1.Route the sensor an d its cord through a nearby win- dow .
12 Operation 3. Hang the sensor ’s plastic loop on the suction cup’s hook. ˆ Operation The thermometer automatically mea- sures the outdoor and indoor temp era- ture and updates its display every 60 seconds.
13 Operation OUT to OUT to display the current outdoor temperature. The thermometer says “out- door . ” T o hear the thermometer an- nounce the current outdoor and indoor temperatures, press TA L K I N G .
14 Operation CHANGING THE DEGREE FORMAT You can view the te mperature in Fahren- heit ( °F ) or Celsius ( °C ) format on the thermometer. To change the de- gree format for both the indoor and out- door displays, slide ° C / °F on the back of the thermo meter to the desired setting .
15 Operation ADJUSTING THE V OLUME Your thermometer has three voice an- nouncement settings: high, low, and off. To set the volume, re pea tedly pre ss VO L - UME on the back of the ther mo mete r unti l (high) or (low) appears, or until disappears (off).
16 Operation The thermometer is preset to sound an alarm when t he temperat ure reache s 32 ° F (0 ° C) minimum and 100 ° – 100.4 ° F (37.7 ° –38 ° C) maximum depending on the temperature forma t.
17 Operation Changing the Alarm Settings 1. Repeatedly (if necessary) press MODE to select the setting ( IN MAX , IN MIN , OUT MAX , or OUT MIN ) you want to change. The thermometer announces the selected setting and the tempera- ture, then beeps on ce.
18 Operation 3. Repeatedly p ress MODE until the current temperature appears. To clear all indoor an d outdoor maximum and minimum temp erature alarm set- tings, use a sharp object such as a straightened paper clip to p ress RESET on the back of the thermometer.

20 Operation CARE Keep the thermometer dry; if it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Use and sto re the thermometer only in normal tempera- ture environments. Handle the thermom- eter carefully; do not dro p it. Keep the thermometer away from dust and di rt, and wipe it with a damp cloth occasiona l- ly to keep it looking new.
