7 ATTACHING THE HANDSET ’ S ANTENNA Screw the antenna into the hole at t he top of the handset. PLACING THE BASE ON A DESK T OP Follow th ese steps when y ou place the base on a desk, shelf, or t able. 1. Remove the b racket by ho lding in both tabs and gently pulling o ut the wide end of the bracket.
8 2. Plug one e nd of the supplied long modular cord into the phone jack on the back of the base. 3. Insert the sup plied AC adapter ’s barrel plug into the DC 9V jack on the back of the base. 4. Route the ad apter ’s cord th rough the st rain relief slot o n the bottom of the b a se .

Insert the tabs on the narro w end of the bracket in to the s lots on the bo t- tom of th e base as sho wn an d route the other e nd of t he sh ort modular cord throug h the center o f the bra ck- et. 6. Push the tabs on the wide end of the bracket into the l ower slots on the bottom of the base.
11 MOUNTING THE BASE DIRECTLY ON THE W ALL For this mounting me thod , you need two flat-head screws (not supp lied) with heads that fit into the keyhole slo ts on t he bottom of the base. 1. Drill two holes 3 15 / 16 inches (100 m m) apa rt. Then t hread a screw into each hole, letting the hea ds extend about 5 / 16 i nch ( 7 mm) from the wall.

Insert the tabs on the narro w end of the bracket in to the s lots on the bo t- tom of t h e base as shown, guide the modular an d adapter cords th rough the slots on the wide end of the bracket, then push t he tabs on t he wide end of the bracket into the low- er slots on the botto m of t he bas e.
13 CONNECT ING AND CHARGING THE BAT TERY PACK The E T-1110 comes with a rechargeable nickel-cadmi um battery pack in the hands et but not connected. Before using your ph one, you mu st connect the bat - tery pack and then charge it for about 15 hours.
14 • If t he CHARG E i ndicator does not light when y ou p lace t he ha nds et on the base, be sure the battery pack and AC adapter are correctly and securel y co nnect e d. Also, check the charging contac ts on the han dset and t he base. If the contacts are dirty or tarnished, clean them with a penc il eraser .
15 SETTI NG THE DIALING MOD E Set T/P (Tone/Pulse) on t he bac k of the base for the type of service y ou have. If you are not sure which type you have, once t he battery is fully cha rged, do this test . 1. Set T/P to T . 2. Lift the hands et, then pres s TA LK and l isten f or the dial tone.
16 SETTI NG T HE AREA CODE When y ou return a call from a Cal l er I D record (see “Dialing Numbers fr om a Caller ID Rec ord” on Page 26), your phone automat ically dials 1, the area code, and t he number.

18 T ELEPHONE O PERATION MAKING AN D RECEIVING A CALL To make a call, simply lift the handset and press TALK . When t he TALK indica- tor lights ste adily and you hear the di al tone, dial t he desired phone number or me mory nu mbe r (se e “ Dia li ng a Mem or y Number” on Page 23).
19 CHA NGING THE CHANNEL The ET-1110 s cans 20 channels (fre- quenc y pairs used between t he base and the handset) a nd automatically selects a clear channel each time you make or re- ceiv e a c all. CH and the current chan nel number a p- pear on t he display for about 15 secon ds when you make or receive a call.
20 Note: If you do not have any s pecial phone s ervices, p ressing FL A SH might disconnect the current call. USING T ONE SERVIC E S ON A PULSE LINE Some s pecial services, such as bank-by- phone, requi r e tone signals. 21 MEMO RY DIALING You can st ore up to 20 phone numbers and nam es in mem ory, then dial a stored numbe r by pressing a two-digit mem ory lo ca ti o n n u mb e r. Each st ored numbe r can be up to 24 di g- its lo ng, and e ach name can contain up to 16 ch aracte rs.

28 T ROUBLES HOOTING We do n ot expect you t o hav e any problems wi th your teleph one, but i f y o u do, the following sugg estions m ight help. Probl em Suggestion The handset does not work. Move the handset closer to the base. Be sure t he phone line cord a nd AC adapt - er are correctly and securely conne cted.

31 REPLACING THE BATTE RY PACK If you follow the instructions in “ Connect- ing and Chargin g the Battery Pack” on Page 13, the ba ttery pack should last about one year. If the battery doe s not hold a charge f or more than 2 hours after an ov ernight charge, replace the ba ttery with a new 3.
