However, eac h device you conne ct to t he phone lin e draws power from the phon e line. We refer to this power draw as the de- vice’s ringer equivalence num ber, or REN.

7 INSTALLAT ION SELECTI NG A LOCAT ION You can set t he ET-910’s base o n a flat surface (suc h as a desktop or coun ter-top), mount it on a m odular jack wall plate, or mount it directly on the wal l. The bas e’s location affects the pho ne’s range.
8 MOUNTING THE BASE ON A W ALL Using the suppl ied mounting bracket, you can mount the ET-91 0’s base on a phone jack wal l plate or d irectly on the wa l l. To prepare the brac ket for m ounting, twist off the tabs attached to the cen- ter of the bracket and press them se- curely into the hole s on the narrow end of the bracket.
9 4. Press the AC cord i nto the top and bot tom groo ves on th e left side of the bracket, press the modul ar cord into the center groove on the right side of t he bracket, then p lug the m odular cord into the m odular phone jac k.

11 6. Press the AC cord i nto the top and bot tom groo ves on th e left side of the bracket, press the modul ar cord in to the top and bottom groo ves on th e rig ht s ide of the bracke t, then p lug the modul ar cord into a m odular phone jack .
12 PREPARA TION INSTALLING TH E BATTERY PACK To install the su pplied rechargeabl e battery pack, place it on the battery compart m ent t racks, t he n sli de it up (toward the antenna) until it locks in place. Note : You mus t c har ge a ne w bat ter y pack at least 24 hours bef ore you use it the f ir st time.
13 Notes: • If the CHARGE indicator does not light or blinks continuously when y ou place the handset on the cradle, be s ure the batte ry and A C adapter are correctly and securely connec ted. Also, check t he chargin g contacts on both the hands et and base.
14 SETTI NG T HE PULSE/ T ONE SWI TCH Set PULSE/T O NE f or the type of ser- vice you have. I f you are not s ure which type you hav e, do this t est. 1. S et PULSE/T ONE to TONE . 2. P ress TA L K on the handset or SPKR (s peakerpho ne) on the base and listen for a dial tone.
15 2. W ith in 30 seco nds, pres s # , the n press 1 - 4 (one key after the other) to hear the different ringer types. T he ET-910 sounds a dif- ferent ringer type for each key . Notes : • T o hear the currently selected ringer ty pe, press 0 anyt i me after you pres s # d uring this step.
16 OPE RATION Imp ort an t : If you move the handset outside the bas e’s range, the ha nd- set will not operate properly an d a call in p rogres s might be disconnect- ed (see “Troubleshoot ing” o n Page 26). Note : Y ou can u se the k eypad on ei- ther the ha nds et or the base t o oper- ate the E T-910.

18 Switc h ing Between the Han d se t and S peakerph one To switch to the speakerphone at any time during a call whi l e you are us ing the han dset, simply pres s SPKR on the base so its red indicator turns on, then press OFF to t u rn off the hand- set .
19 USIN G HO LD To pla ce a call on hold , simpl y p ress HOLD . The HOL D i ndicator o n the base and the TALK indicat or on the hands et (if it is off the base) flash to remind you that the call is on hold. Y ou and the oth er party cann ot hear each other.
20 USING FLASH You can use FLASH to produc e a switchhook signal for special phone serv ices, su ch as call waiti ng . If y o u have call waiting, press FLASH to take an incoming call without discon- necting the current call. Press FLASH again to return t o the first call.
21 SPECIAL FEATURES USIN G M EMOR Y DIALIN G You can store up to 10 num bers in the ET-91 0’s m emory, then dial them at the press of a f ew button s. Notes : • Each phone numbe r can be up to 16 digits long. • Y ou c an us e either the ba se or the han dset to program and d i al stored num bers on the ET-910.
22 To store addi tional numbers, repeat Steps 1 -4 for each num ber y ou want t o st ore. Notes : • T o change a number in m emory, simply store a new o ne i n its place.
23 Chain Dialing S ervice Numbe rs You can ma ke a call using more t han one of the ET-910’ s memory loca- tions. T his is cal led cha in dialing. Chain di aling is usef ul for dialing spe- cial serv ices such as alternate long distance or bank-by -phone.
24 Pa gin g fr om th e Ba se to th e Handset To send a page from the bas e to th e handset, press and release IN T . CM on the base. The handset sounds fiv e d ist incti ve rings (different than the ringer type for a normal call), and the ba se’s INT.
25 USING HANDSET /BASE DISABLE To disabl e the ot her keypad (the one you are not using) at any t ime during a call so no one can use that keypad to access your ca ll or an out going line, sim ply press PROG on the k e y - pad y ou are c urrently using .
26 T ROUBLESHOOTING We do n ot expec t y ou to h av e any problem s wi th your ph one, but i f yo u do, t he following sugg estions might help. Pro bl em S olut ion Low volume or unusual sounds . • Some one has picked up at another phone on the same line.
27 Pr o bl em S ol ution The phone does not work or works poorly . Be sure t he base’s pho ne line co rd and A C adap ter are correctly and securel y connected. The handset ba t tery does not c h arge. Check the charging contacts on the hands et and base.
28 If you still have p roblems, d isconnect the phone . If other phon es on t he sam e line work properly, the fault i s in this phone or its installation. If you cannot find the problem, take your phone to your local Radio Shack store for assistance.
29 OUT OF RANGE IN DICATIONS If you move the ET-91 0’s handset out of the base’s rang e, the hand set will not operate properly. While it is ou t of range, the handset sounds dif ferent alert tones and flashes various indi- cators.
