6 INTRODUCTION TO AM ATEUR RADIO This tran sceiver is a great i ntermedia te-level t ool for the e xperi- enced am ateur ra dio operato r. The transc eiver ope ns a door for you to th e world from alm.

8 PREPARATION ATTACHING THE MICROPH ONE HOLDER You can conne ct the micropho ne holder horizo ntally or vertic ally to either side of the t ransceiv er or to another lo cation in your ve- hicle. Use t he suppl ied sc rews an d lock washers t o secure the holder to the si de of t he transceiv er.
9 If you are mountin g the t ransceiv er in a v ehicle, choos e a loca - tion wher e: • you c an easily reach th e transceive r . • wires and cables are cle ar of the vehicl e's pedal s or other mov i ng pa rts. • the tran sceiver is not directly in fron t of heatin g vents.
10 4. Attach the trans ceiver to the mount ing brack et using t he supplie d rubb er washer s and mo unting knobs. CONNECTING AN ANTENN A There are many diffe rent types of transceiver antennas for mobile transce ivers. Eac h antenna type has its own benefi ts, so choose the one t hat bes t meets your needs .
11 Once you choos e an antenna, follow its moun ting instru ction s. Then rout e the cable to the trans ceiver an d con- nect the cab le to the ANT jack on the back of th e trans ceiver. Cautions: • A void rou ting t he cable next to sharp edg es or moving part s, which mig ht damage the cabl e.
12 CONNECTING THE MICRO PHONE 1. Align the s lot on t he bottom o f the microph one’ s plug with the ridge inside the MIC jack. Th en f u ll y in se rt the plug into the j ack. 2. T urn the pl ug’s lock ing nut clock- wise to ti ghten it. 3. Slide the m icrophon e onto the mic rophone ho lder .

14 Caution: Do no t connect th e black wire to a no n-metallic (plastic ) part, or to an y part insulated fro m the vehi cle's chassi s by a n on-metall ic part. 3. Connec t the single co nnector end of the power cord to the connec tor on the b ack of the tra n sceiver .

Warning: Use ex treme caution when you ins tall or remove a base stat ion ante nna. If the an tenna start s to fall, let it go! It could con tact overhe ard power lines .

19 3. T o transmit, hold down the push-to-tal k button on the micro - phone, hold the mi crophone 2– 3 inch es from yo ur mouth, and spea k in a norma l tone o f voi ce. TX appea rs along with a bar graph which sho ws the s trength of your transmissio n.

24 Using SHIF T The transc eiver’s shift funct ion lets yo u set the tran smit frequ ency shift f rom th e recei ve freque ncy in either direction within the range of 0.0 Hz to 990 kHz. Follow these st eps to se t the freque ncy shi ft directio n and offs et frequenc y.
25 Using M-SA VE (Memory Save) Follow th ese steps to save up to five frequ encies in to memory chann els. 1. Select the desire d frequ ency . 2. Pr ess PUSH FUNC then M-SA VE . S appears. 3. Wh ile S appears, pre ss the desire d memory channel n um- ber .
26 Using R F -G (R F G a in ) When you receive an extremel y strong si gnal, rotate RF-G coun- tercloc kwise to a ttenuate th e signal. Using MIC-G (M icrophone Gain) Rotate MIC-G to adjust th e transmitt er’s microphone ga in and SSB transm itting powe r for the best audio q uality.
