8 PREPARATION INSTALLING BATTERIES Your phone requi res two AA batteries (not supplied ) for power. For th e best performance and longe st life, we recom- mend RadioShack alkaline batteries. Note: The batter ies protect the phone’s memory during po wer failures.
9 SELECTING A LOCATION You can place the phone on a desk top or table, or mou nt it on a standard wa ll plate. Select a location that is: • near an accessible AC outlet • near a telep hone line ja.
10 On a Desk T op Follow these steps to mount th e system on a desktop. 1. Plug one en d of the supplied lo ng modular cord into the TEL LINE jack on the back of th e phone. 2. Plug the o ther end of the m odular cord into a modular phon e jack. 3. Place the phone on a flat desk, shelf, or table .
11 5. Press and lift out the handset hold - er . Rotate it 180° , then snap it back into place so it holds the ha ndset. CONNECTING THE HANDSET 1. Plug one end of t he supplied coiled cord into the handse t’s modula r jack. 2. Plug the other en d of the coiled cor d into the handset jack on the side of the phone near est the handset cra - dle.
12 DISABLING THE LINE 2 INDICATOR If you have only one telephone line, the LINE 2 indicator lig hts and LINE 2 EX- TENSION appears on the displa y. Follow these step s to disa ble the LI NE 2 indica- tor. 1. Press REVIEW 8 or 9 repeatedly until the call total appears .
13 3. When you hear the dial ton e, press any number ot he r th an 0 . Note: If your phone system requires that you dial an access code (9, for example) before you dial an outside number , do no t press the acc ess code numb er . • If the dial tone stops , you have touch-tone service.
14 OPERATION MAKING AND RECEIVING CALLS To make a call using t he handset, pick it up. When you he ar the dial to ne, dial the number. Then cu rrent time d isappears, and the number a ppears on the display as you dial it. When you complete the call, hang up the handset.
15 To switch from the speakerphon e to the handset , simply pick up the handset. New Call Indicator The NEW CALL indicator blinks if the system has either voice mail or a new call in call memory. The NEW CALL in- dicator stops blinking if you have re- viewed all the voice mail messages and new calls.
16 IDENTIFYING THE INDICATORS Your phone ha s line status indicators that use ringing tones, the di splay, and indicator lights to let you know if a call is coming in, on hold, or a li ne is in use. Ringer Indicators To indicate which line has an incoming call, Line 2 has a higher sounding rin g than Line 1.
17 USING CALLER ID If you subsc ribe to a Caller ID service, the phone automatically displays inf or- mation about calls you receive an d stores the information in Caller ID mem- ory. The system can stor e up to 99 in- coming phone n umbers, or up to 68 incoming name s and phone numbers into call records.
18 Reviewing Call Records To quickly review call records f rom new- est to oldest, repeat edly press REVIEW 8 . To review call records from oldest to newest, re pe a te dly pr es s REVIEW 9 . If you have not r eceived any new calls, 0 CALL is displayed.
19 • If a displayed phone numb er is mor e than twelve ch aracters, th e rest of the Caller ID information scrolls au- tomatically . Area Code Your phone allows you to pre-store f ive area codes o f three digits.
20 If the Caller ID record has the same area code as one you have sto red but you need t o include the area code to mak e the call , dial the area code on the number ke y pad then press CALL BAC K . If the Caller ID record has a differen t area code tha n one you have stored , press 1 then pr ess CALL BACK .
21 Storing Numbers Into Memory Note: For informati on about storing numbers f rom call records i nto memory see “Storing Call Records Into Memor y”. Follow these steps to sto re numbers into upper or lower memory. 1. Press STORE . LOCATIO N? appears.
22 Note: If you do not specify a m em o ry lo- cation within 30 seconds, the system re- turns to the current time display. To start over, repeat St eps 1–3. Storing the Last Number Dialed Into Memory Follow these steps to store the last num- ber you dialed to a me m or y loca tio n.
23 Using the Memory Card To keep a record of the number s you stored in the phone’s upper and lower memory location s, lift off the clear plastic cover over the card surrounding the memory button s. Then write the p er- son’s or company’s name next to the ap- propriate me mory location.
24 T ROUBLESHOOTING We do not expect you to have an y problems with your p hone, but if you do, the follo w- ing suggestions might he lp. If you still have problems, disconnect the phone. If other phones on the s ame line work properly, t he fault is in t his phone or its insta llation.
