First Things First 3 Welcome T o Y our New VCR... T o help you get started using your VCR with as little reading as possible, we ’ ve put all the basic information needed in the first three sections.
First Things First 4 Step 1: Wha t ’ s in the Box? The following items come packed in the box: • VCR • Remote control • RF coaxial cable STEP 2: Inst all Ba tteries In the Remote Contro l Follow these steps whenever you need to install or change the batteries in your VCR remote: 1.
First Things First 5 STEP 5: Tune THE TV T une the TV to the VCR viewing channel. The VCR viewing channel is channel 3 or 4 or the TV ’ s video line input. • If you connect your VCR using the ANT . IN and RF OUT jacks with RF coaxial cable, set the CH.
First Things First 6 If the menu does not appear: • Make sure the TV is tuned to the same channel as the CH. 3/4 switch or the TV ’ s video input channel (see “ How to Find Y our TV ’ s Video Input Channel ” in the References section of this manual for more information).
7 Setting Up the VCR Setup fea tures Below is a list of features that need to be set up to get the most out of your VCR. Many of these menus are covered during the QuickSet Guide, but if you ever want to change a menu, refer to this section.
8 Setting Up the VCR Using the Menus to Set Up Fea tures Y ou set up features by using the menu system as discussed in the previous section. Each feature that appears in the QuickSet Guide is explained in this section as well as a few other features you should set up before you begin using your VCR.
9 Setting Up the VCR Setup for a Digit al Sa tellite Receiver With this setup, the VCR turns on an RCA, ProScan, or GE satellite receiver antenna and tunes it to the desired channel at the start time of a timer recording. For other brands, the VCR tunes the receiver to the desired channel only if the receiver is turned on.
10 Setting Up the VCR SAT SETUP The VCR will now receive all signals from the SAT receiver on channel 03. Press MENU to continue 5. Press MENU and enter the code for your digital satellite receiver from the Satellite Receiver Code List.
11 Setting Up the VCR Cable Box Setup All channels: enter two numbers for output channel of your cable box or press INPUT for Video Input. Only SOME channels: if you only use the cable box to tune premium channels.

13 Setting Up the VCR Detect Automatically A strong cable or antenna signal in your area may cause Auto Detect to mis-detect. If this should happen, select 1 or 2 for the system you have. Auto Channel Sear ch Use the Auto Channel Sear ch feature to place all available channels in memory .
14 Setting Up the VCR Selecting Channels The CHANNEL + and - buttons access those channels which are active in your VCR channel list. Y ou can still access channels not in the channel list by using the number buttons on the remote.
15 Setting Up the VCR Auto Clock Info With a cable box, the VCR will not reset the clock after a power outage unless the cable box is set to the channel carrying the broadcast signal. If Auto Clock Set is unsuccessful, try tuning the VCR (or cable box) to a channel carrying Allset time data (usually PBS), then turn the VCR off.
16 Setting Up the VCR Spring forward; Fall back In the Spring, Daylight-Savings begins on the first Sunday in April. Because the clock automatically changes from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. (forward one hour), r emember to include the extra hour for timer recor dings falling within this time frame.

Press 4 to change the time delay or to disable the feature. • OFF: The VCR will remain turned on until you shut it off. • 1:00, 2:00, or 3:00: The VCR turns of f after one, two, or three hours of inactivity .
24 Setting Up the VCR Set A uto Repea t A tape can be set to play the same segment over and over in a repeating loop with the Set Auto Repeat feature. Set Auto Repeat uses the VCR ’ s memory counter to determine the duration of the loop.
25 VCR Ba sics Learn the B a sics To Get Y ou St arted These VCR basics should be enough for you to begin enjoying your VCR. Learning the remote control functions, playing a recorded tape, and recording a program should do just that. This section shows you the basics of using your VCR.

32 Recording Reco rding Fea tures There are four ways to record programs: • Recording lets you press one button to start recording a program (See VCR Basics section). • Express Recor ding (XPR) allows recording to start while a program is being watched, and automatically stops recording after a designated period of time.
