4 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert SAFETY LABEL This is a copy of the labels that accompany each U32-3 Gas Insert. We have printed a copy of the contents here for your review. The safety label is located on a plate inside the base of the unit visible when the bottom louver is opened.
5 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert IMPORT ANT : SA VE THESE INSTRUCTIONS The FPI Gas Insert must be installed in accord- ance with these instructions. Carefully read all the instructions in this manual first. Consult the building authority having jurisdiction to deter- mine the need for a permit prior to starting the installation.
6 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert MA TERIALS REQUIRED No electrical power supply is required for the gas control to operate. A 120 Volt AC power cord is hooked up to the fan. Plug the 3 wire cord into a suitable receptacle. Do not cut the ground terminal off under any circum- stances.
7 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert GAS CONNECTION GAS CONNECTION WARNING: Only persons licensed to work with gas piping may make the necessary gas connections to this appliance. 1) If the appliance is to be installed into an existing chimney system, thoroughly clean the masonry or factory built fireplace.
8 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert OPTIONAL BRICK P ANEL 1) Unwrap the brick pattern panels from the protective wrapping. 2) Remove the glass front if it is already installed, see page 11. 3) Put the rear brick panel flat against the back of the unit.
9 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert Logs D)02-46 and E)02-47 in position. 6) Place the Left Top Log D)02-46 on the pin on Log C)02-56 and on top of the cutout on Log A)02-43. 7) Place the notch in Center Log E)02-47 over Log B)02-45 and across the cutout on Log A)02-43.

11 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert To remove the flush door, reverse the above steps. NOTE: The chain must rest on TOP of the gas inlet pipe never under it. Diagram 3 Diagram 2 Use the hook to pull the spring out until you can put the hook into the slot on the bottom door bracket.
12 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert BA Y LOUVERS 1) Install top louver by sliding the two bracket clips into the brackets located on top of the bay door. See below. The fitted louver leaves a small gap between faceplate bot- tom and louver top. Note: If any maintenance etc.
13 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert THIS CONVERSION MUST BE DONE BY A QUALIFIED GAS FITTER IF IN DOUBT DO NOT DO THIS CONVERSION !! Conversion Kit from Natural Gas to Prop ane Model #512-969 1) Turn the unit off and allow it to cool to room temperature.
14 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert FULL SCREEN FRONT INST ALLA TION 1) Hold the full screen door up against the unit in order to make the following wire connections. Pull the ON/OFF connector wires from the firebox and connect them to the switch. Connect the fan switch wires with the wire connectors from the fan speed control.
15 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert INST ALLA TION 5) Place Bottom Frame near hinge. Flip hinge over Bottom Frame and secure with 3 screws. 4) Install Spring Hinges on the Left and Right Side of the bottom of the firebox using 2 screws per hinge.
16 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert HAMPTON CAST F ACEPLA TE INST ALLA TION 1) Lay the faceplate panels flat, face down on something soft so they don't scratch. 2) Attach the side filler brackets to the left and right sides using 3 screws and washer per side.
17 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert HAMPTON CAST FACEPLA TE GRILL INST ALLA TION INST ALLA TION Note: The top louver should be placed with the curved cut-out facing up. 11) Mount the cast faceplate panels onto the insert body, sliding the side filler brackets into the space between the glass and the firebox.
18 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert IMPORTANT: Please use the gloves provided when handling the Kensington Front to avoid fingerprints. 3) Slide the Tabs on the Blanking Plate into the slots located on Front and secure using 2 screws. Kensington Front Blanking Plate Tabs 1) Place the Kensington Front up against the unit , but do not secure.
19 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert THE KENSINGTON 2-P ANEL DOOR INST ALLA TION 3) Hook the Left Side Screen Door to the Door Frame by placing the door hinges (top & bottom) over the pins on the Door Frame. Repeat for Right Side Screen Door. Note: It will be easier to put the Screen Door in place by starting with the bottom hinge.
20 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert OPTIONAL REMOTE CONTROL Use the FPI Remote Control Kit approved for this unit. Use of other systems may void your warranty. The remote control kit comes with a hand held transmitter, a receiver and a wall mounting plate.

24 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert Flush Glass Replacement Remove the flush door front (as per instruc- tions on page 11). Remove the 4 glass clips from each corner. Slide in the new replacement glass. Push the 4 glass clips back onto the frame. MAINTENANCE GENERAL VENT MAINTENANCE Conduct an inspection of the venting system semi-annually.
25 U32-3 FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert FAN MAINTENANCE If your fan requires maintenance or replace- ment, access to the fan is through the plate on the rear wall of the firebox. NOTE: the unit MUST NOT be operated without the fan access panel securely in place.
