12 Safety Safet y belts Three-point inertia-reel safe ty belts are provided for all seats. The results of st udies show that it is eq ually important to wear safety be lts in the rear seat a s in the front seats .
13 Safety Correct positi on for safety belt Conside r this: • P osition th e lap stra p snugly an d low across th e hips s o that it just to uches the thighs . The sh oulder stra p must be as f ar in on the shoul der as poss ible . • Check to ensure th at the belt is not twisted or rubbin g agains t any sh arp edges.
14 Safety Front safety belts Fasten th e belt by pu lling the belt and ins ert- ing the tongue in the buckl e. Check that it is securel y fastened. Posi tio n th e lap part low acros s t he hip s. Grasp th e shoulder be lt close t o the buckle and pull the belt towa rds the shoulde r to tighten t he lap belt part.
15 Safety Safety belt use during pregnancy Pregnant w omen must always wear a safety b elt to protect bo th themselves and the unbo rn child. The lap belt should be place d low, across the hips and over the up per thighs. 18 Safety Legroom adjustme nt Lift the lev e r under the fron t of the seat and slide th e seat to the desired position. Backrest rake angle To find the most comforta ble position, t urn the knob to prov ide steples s adjustment of the backr est. Lumbar support, Spor t Sedan Adjust the firmness of the lumb ar support by turning t he knob.
19 Safety Electr ically adjust able front seats (option) With the do ors closed the s eats can only be adjust ed when the ign ition is ON. However , there are two except ions: • T o f acilitate getting into the car , both seats can be adjusted when either of the fro nt doors is open.
20 Safety Backrest rake angl e Adjust th e rake angle of the ba ckrest with the rear l e ver. Lumbar support, dri ver’s seat Adjust the firm ness of the lumba r suppor t by turning the knob.
21 Safety When the ignition is ON, all s eat settings can be adjus ted. When the door is open and before the remote cont rol has b een inserted into the ignition switch, all s eat setting s can be adjus ted for up to 20 minutes. The mem ory also incl udes the doo r mirror settings .

30 Safety The dr iver and passenger fro nt airbags are triggered by violent f ront-end crashes . They are not acti vated by mino r front-end impacts , if the car overt urns or by rear- and side-impac ts. The car i s equipp ed as stand ard with a passenger ai rbag.

32 Safety WARNIN G • Even if the car is equippe d with AIRBAGS, safety be lts must still alw ays be worn by all occu pants. • Note that becau se an airbag inflat es and defl ates extremely rapidly, it will not pr ovide pro tection agains t a second impact occurr ing in the s ame incide nt.
33 Safety Front passenger seat The system is the same as that used on the driver’s sid e. The airbag systems ar e interconne cted and have a co mmon warning light . The pa s- senger airbag modu le is housed in t he fascia a bove the glo ve box and is marked "AIRBAG".
34 Safety Head protecti on The pill ar trim and h eadlining (not C onverti - ble soft top ) are de signed to ab sorb energy, softenin g possible bl ows to t he head. After a crash , these item s must be cha nged in the seat po sitions that were occupied .
35 Safety Inflatabl e curtains, Sport Sedan WARNIN G • Do not si t with your he ad resting agains t the side win dow. The inflat- able cu rtain is desig ned to inflate betwee n the wi ndow and the h ead. Resti ng the hea d against th e windo w could p revent the in flatable cur tain from pro vidi ng t he in tend ed protecti on.
36 Safety The infl atable curtains , which protect th e head, are conc ealed along the lengt hs of the headli ning (all the way from front to rear roof pil lars) . The infl atable curtai ns inflat e at the same time as t he side airbag s in the fron t seats in case of a side-on i mpact.

48 Security Changing the key bat tery When the voltage of th e remote contro l bat- tery dr ops belo w a certain le vel, the Saab Inform ation D isplay (SI D) wil l disp lay: Change the battery as soon as possi ble to avoid m alfunctioni ng.
49 Securit y 3 Change the ba tter y . Fit the new b atter y so that i t is positione d in the same way as the o ld battery , with the positiv e (+) side f acing d own. 4 Fit the tw o halv es of the re mote control together and press them toge ther until you hear sev eral clicks .
50 Security If, when inserted in to the ign ition swit ch, there is a problem c hecking the electronic code of the remote contr ol, the followi ng messag e will appear on the SID: Visit a Sa ab dealer to have the proble m checke d and rectified. 51 Securit y To avoid any inconveni ence, make sure that anyone using the car i s familiar wi th how t he car alarm and the locking sys tem work. If the al arm has been tri pped since the car was la s.
52 Security Switching off the alarm if tripped If the al arm has been tri ggered (direct ion indicat ors flashing and horn sounding ) it can be turne d off by p ressing one of the buttons on the remote control or, if you are sit ting in the car, by turning the i gnition to ON (se e below).

68 9-3 Co nvertib le Head rest raints The front seats are equip ped with Saab Active He ad Restraints (SAHRs). These are designe d to reduce the risk of neck injury if the car i s hit from behind. The SAHR i s a mechanic al system, ac tu- ated by bo dy weight.
69 9-3 C onverti ble Safet y bel ts, rear seat , Conver tible The two rear seats have three-poi nt safety belts w ith inert ia reels. Fasten th e belt by pu lling the belt and ins ert- ing the tongue in the buckl e. Check that it is securel y fastened.
70 9-3 Co nvertib le Roll over Pop- up Bars The Ro llover Pop Up Bars, which are located behind each rear seat head restraint, along with th e winds hield fram e and t he seatbe lt pretensio ns, are design ed to deplo y in the event of a crash o r rollover.

78 Instru ment s and contr ols Warning and indicator lights The foll owing warnin g and ind icator lights are found on the main instrument panel. This w arning li ght illuminates when a fault arises in the ant ilock brake system.
79 Instruments and controls This ligh t will com e on if the eng ine oil pr es- sure is to o low. If the w arning l ight flash es or comes on while you are dri ving, stop imme - diately in a safe p lace, switch off the en gine and che ck the oil lev el (see page 202).
80 Instru ment s and contr ols This li ght shows w hen the high be am is on (see page 97). This l ight indicates when the front fog li ghts are on (s ee page 98). The front fog lights are s witched off auto- matical ly when the e ngine is switched off .
81 Instruments and controls This li ght reminds the driver to buc kle up. This lig ht comes on w hen the p arking brake is appl ied (see page 173). The park ing brake is m e chanic al and oper- ates on the rear wheels. This ligh t comes on if a potentially s erious fault has occu rred in the airbag system .

84 Instru ment s and contr ols Temperature gauge The tempera ture gauge shows the temper- ature of the coo lant. The needl e should be in the m iddle of the scale w hen t he engine is at no rmal operatin g tempera ture.
85 Instruments and controls If the needl e repeatedly ent ers the red zon e and t he engine at the same time loses power, bec ause the moni toring system is limitin g the boost p ressu re, you s hould contact a Saab deale r as soon as possible.

98 Instru ment s and contr ols Front fog li ghts (cer tai n v ar ian ts o nl y) The front fog lights shou ld be used in poor visibi lity. These are a utomatically tu rned off when the engine i s switched off . When the c ar is next started, t he fog lights will have to b e switc hed back on manually by pressing the fog ligh t switch.
99 Instruments and controls Hazard warning li ghts The butto n for the hazard warning lights is loc ated o n th e cli mat e con trol pane l. When the but ton is pressed, all the directio n indicat ors and the sym b ol in t he button flas h simulta neously.
100 Instru ments an d controls Priority of audible information Sound from vari ous function s in the car, such as the direction indicators, park i ng assist ance and se atbelt reminders , come from the same sound source: the ca r’s sound sy stem.
