Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section allows you to quickly start using your phone by installing and charging the batter y , activating your ser vice, setting up your voicemail, contacting customer support.
5 Batter y Y our phone is powered by a re chargeable, standard Li-I on battery , and comes with a wall charger for charging. Note: The battery comes partially ch arged. Y ou must fully charge the ba ttery before using your phone for the first time. A fully discharged battery requires up to 4 hours of charge time.
Getting Started 6 Inst alli ng the Batter y 1. Remove the battery cover . For more information, see “Batter y Cover” on page 5. 2. Insert the top end of the batt ery into the phone housing, aligning the gold contacts on th e top of the battery with the gold contacts on the phone.
7 Charging the Batter y Note: The battery comes partially ch arged. Y ou must fully charge the ba ttery before using your phone for the first time. A fully discharged battery requires up to 4 hours of charge time. After the first charge, you can use the phone while charging.
Getting Started 8 Non-Supp ort ed Ba tteries Samsung handsets do no t support the use of a non-approved battery. Import ant! : Using a non-supported battery may damage your phone. When using a non-supported battery , yo u will hear a series of beeps and you will see a warning message that indicates: “ NON-SUPPORTED BA TTERY .
9 T ur ning Y our Phone On and Off 䊳 Press and hold the End/Power key to turn the phone’ s power on or off. While powering on, the phone connects with the home network, then displays the Home screen and active alerts. Set-Up W izar d The Set-Up Wizard helps you se t 9 basic parameters to get started using your phone quickly .
Getting Started 10 Locking and Unloc king Y our phone offers two lock func tions: locking the display , or locking the phone. Because this is a touch screen phone, locking the display prevents unintentional key p resses and can minimize unnecessary battery dr ainage.
11 V oicemail All unanswered calls to your phone are sent t o voicemail, even if your phone is turned off, so you’ ll want to set up your voicemai l and personal greeting as soon as you activate your pho ne. Setting up V oicemail 1. From a Home screen, touch Dialer .

Push in on the memor y card to release the lock and remove memory card from the memory card slot. 19 Extended Home Screens The home screen ex tends beyond the displa y width to provide more space for adding widgets. Slide your finger horizont ally across the screen to scroll to the left or right side of the extended home screen.

21 Customizing th e Widget Bar Widgets settings allow you to se lect widgets for display in the Widget Bar , making the widgets available f or use from the Widge t Bar , or for placing on a home screen. Y ou can also change the order the widgets display in the Widget Bar .

Contacts 46 In Case of Emergency (ICE) In Case of Emerge ncy (ICE) allows you to set up to 3 emergency contacts, plus enter pers onal inform ation that may be h elpful to others using your phone in an emerg ency . Note: ICE contacts are displayed in red in the Contacts list.

Entering T ext 48 Section 6: Entering T ext Y our phone provides convenient ways to enter words, letters, punctuation, and numbers when you need to enter text. This section describes se lecting the text input mode and entering characters, using the built-in QWERTY keyboard or the Di aler keypad.

Entering T ext 50 T ouch Screen T ext Input Bu ttons Using T9 W o rd T9 Word is a predictive text i nput mode that recognizes common words matching the sequence of your key presses and inserts the most common word into your text. T9 Word requires only one key press per letter of the word and is much faster than traditional te xt entry .
51 Using 123 M ode Use 123 mode to enter numbe rs into a text message. 䊳 T ouch the T ext Input Mode button, then select . Video messaging is al so known as Multimedi a Messaging (MMS). Note: Sliding the QWERTY keyboard open immediately after taking a video opens a New Video Message screen.
