Getting Started 1 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using yo ur pho ne by configuring your hardw are, setting up accounts, and setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is ne cessary to install both the battery and SIM into their corresponding in ternal compartments.
2 • Make sure t hat the card’s go ld contacts face into t he phone and that th e upper-left ang led corner of the card is pos itioned as shown. Note: If the card is not inserted correctly , the phone will not detect the SIM card. Re-orient the card back into the slot if the SIM is not detec ted.
Getting Started 3 2. Press along the edge of the back cover (3 ) until you have a secure seal. Note: Make sure the battery is properly ins talled before switchin g on the phone. Charging the Batter y Y our device is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery .
4 1. Plug the flat end of the T ravel Charger into the Power/ Accessory Interface connec tor and the other end into a standard AC wall outlet. 2. When charging is finished, re move the flat end f rom the interface connector jack on the phone.
Getting Started 5 Switching the Phon e On or Of f 1. Press and hold until the phone switches on. 2. Swipe your finger across the screen t o unlock the phone. Note: The display language is preset to Englis h at the fac tory . T o change the language, use the Language menu.
6 Configuring y our Phone When you first turn on your phone, you w ill need to set up a few things. 1. The Welc om e! screen displays. The defa ult language for your phone is English. If you would like to select ano ther language, tap English and scroll up or down to select one of the list ed languages.

With a Google Accoun t, you will have access to more Google applications and applications will always be in sync bet ween your phone and comput er .

Creating a New Google Account In order to utilize y our device to the fullest ext ent, you will need to create a Google™ Account when yo u firs t use your device. With a Google Account, Google applications will always be in sync between your phone and co mputer .

24 Using Multi Window to run multiple apps on the same s creen Any of the apps found within the Multi window pan el can be run at the same time as a current on-screen app. Once multiple apps are running on the same screen, you can then choose to either swap t heir positions or maximize a desired app.

All following letters will be uppercase until you tap the sh if t key again. Using Symbol/Numeric Mode Use Symbol/Numeric Mode to add numbers, symbols, or emoticons.
34 2. Use your finger tip to write out each characte r . Y ou can print or use cursive. 3. Y ou can write out your entire message using the Handwriting feature or tap to switch back to Samsung keyboard mode.

From the Dialer and t he Co ntacts screen, the following tabs are located at the top of your screen: • Keypad : dials the current number entered using the on -scre en keypad.

42 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of control functions that you can use during a call. Adjusting the Call V olume During a c all, to adju st the volu me, use th e Vo l u m e keys on the left side of the phone. Press the Up volume key to incre ase the volume level and press t he Down volume key to decreas e the volume level.
Call Functi ons 43 – One-handed operation on/off : Allows you to operate the device with one hand. Personalizing the Call Sound S etting During a call it may be necessary to adju st the sound of the incoming call by selecting an audio equalizer setting for the current call .
44 The current call (caller #2) is placed on hold and the previous call on hold (caller #1) is then reactivated so that you can continue con versing with that person. The active call will appear in a green box. 2. T ap to end the currently active call.

Address Book entries can be sorted by name, en try , or group. Adding a New Contact Use the following procedure to add a new contact to your Address Book.

50 Linking Contacts Linking Contact Information Many people now maint ain multiple email accounts, social networking logins, and other simi lar accoun t information. For example, a Facebo ok account lo gin name might dif fer from a corporate email account login becau se they are maintained separately and for dif f er ent groups of people.

58 Section 5: Pictures and Videos This section explains features relate d to the use of the camera and camcorder on your phone. Y ou can take photographs and shoot video by using the bu ilt-in camera functionality . Y our 8 megapixel camera produces photos in JPEG format.

60 – Sound & shot : Use this mode to enr ich pictures by addi ng background sounds for a f ew seconds. The background sound is recorded f or up to 9 seconds aft er taking the photo. – Rich tone (HDR) : Use this to ta ke photos with rich er colors and contrasts (High Dynamic Range).
Pictures and V ideos 61 Camera and Camcorder Settings This section describes the diff erent settings that you c an configure on your camera. Not all of the following options are available in both still camera and video camera modes. The available options vary b y mode.
62 • V olume key : assigns a funct ion to the volume key. Choose from The zoom key , The camera key , or The rec ord key . •T i m e r : Use this for delay ed-time shots. Y ou can set the timer to Off, 2 sec, 5 sec, or 10 sec. • White balance : Select an appropr iate white balan ce, so images have a true-to-li fe colour ran ge.

Viewing your Videos After you take a video, you can access va rious options from the Image V iewer . The Image V iewer uses your Gallery and the Video player .

72 • View contact : displa ys the Contac t’s Overview pa ge. • Add to contac t : Adds a new number to your Contac ts list. This option is only di splayed if the number in not already in your Contact s list. • Delete thread : deletes the cu rrently selec ted message thread.

74 • Roaming auto -retrieve : allows the message s ystem to retrieve message s automaticall y when roaming. •C r e a t i o n m o d e : allows you to sel ect the creation mod e (Restricted, W arning or Free). – Restricted : you can only create an d submit messages with content belo nging to the Core MM Content Domain.

76 Creating a Cor porate Email Account Use the following pro cedu re to configure your phone to synchronize with a corporat e email accou nt. 1. From the Home screen, tap Email . Y our accounts screen displays with an Email setup screen displayed. 2. Enter you email address in the Email address field.
Messaging 77 3. T ap the Email account Inbox you would like to switch to. Y ou can also select Combined inbox which will display email messages from all accounts . 4. The new Email account is displayed. Using Gmail Gmail is Google’s web-based email.
