Getting Started 6 T ext Conv entions This manual provides condensed informat ion about how to use your device. T o mak e this possible, the following text conventions are used to represent often-used s teps: Batt er y Y our device is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li-Ion batter y .
7 Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the battery before using your device for the first time. After the first c harge, you can use the device while charging. 1. 25 Pinch Use two fingers , such as your index finger and thumb, to make an inward pinch motion on the screen, as if you are picking something up, or an outward moti on by sweeping your fingers out. For example: • Pinch a photo in Gall ery to zoom in.

27 R emo ving the S Pen F rom Y our Device The S Pen is conveniently stored in your device to make it easy to find. T o remove the S Pen, follow these steps: 1. Locate the S Pen at the lower right corner of the device (1). 2. Use your finger nail or a sharp object to pull the end of the S Pen out of the device (2).

29 Notifications When you receive a noti fication, the Noti fication icons display in the System Bar , to the left o f the Time. Notifications indicate the arrival of Gmail, Em ail, alarms, and more. Entering T ext 46 Section 3: Entering T ext This section describes ho w to enter words, letters, punctuation and numbers when you need to enter text. Samsung K eyboar d Y our device uses a virtual QWERTY keyb oard for text entry called the Samsung keyboard .
47 Using the Samsung K eyboar d The Samsung keyboard is a cust om virtual QWERTY keyboard, featuring predictive text. Input char acters by touching the on-screen keys with your finger or use speech recognition. As you enter characters, predic tive text matches your key touches to common words and di splay s them.

53 Handwriting Tips • For uppercase letters, write the letter larger than the lower case letters. • Write a dash (horizonta l line) to add a space. • Delete words by sweepin g backward across them. • T o display numb ers and symbols, to uch and then touch a number or symbol key .

61 Sharing Contact Information Y ou can send a contact’ s information by way of Bluetooth to other Bluetooth devices or in an Email o r Gmail as an attachmen t. Note: Not all Bluetooth devices accept contacts and not all devices support transfers of multiple contact s.

Groups Assign contacts to Groups to make searching for contacts faster or to quickly send messages to group members.
63 Deleting Groups T o delete a group that you created: 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Contacts . 2. T ouch Groups and then touch any group you want to delete. 3. To u c h Menu ➔ Delete . The groups that can be deleted display . 4. T ouch Select all or the name of each group to delete.

73 Composing and Sending Email 1. From a Home screen, touch Email . 2. T ouch an account, if you ha ve more than one account set up, then touch Compos e . 3. Enter the recipient’ s email address in the To field. • If you are sending the em ail message to several recipients, separate the email addre sses with a comma.

Messaging 78 Google T alk T alk is G oogle’ s instant messag ing and audio and video chat service. Y ou can use it to communica te, in real time, with other people who also use Goo gle T alk on another Android tablet or phone or on a comput er . Tip : T alk requires tha t you have a Google account.
79 View and Accept an Invitation to Be come a Friend When a contact invites you to be come a friend in Go ogle T alk , you receive a notifica tion in the System Bar and the invitation displays in your Friends list.
