Getting Started 8 Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the ba ttery before usin g your device for the first time. After the first char ge, you can use the device while charging. 1. Insert the USB cable into the Charging Head (1).

39 Messenger : With Google Messenger TM , you can bring groups of friends to gether into a simple group conversati on. For more information, refer to “Messenger” on page 80. Movie Studio : Use Movie Studio to edit the vide os you take with the camcorder or copy onto your tablet into movies.

Entering T ext 42 Section 3: Entering T ext This section describes ho w to enter words, letter s, punctuation and numbers when you need to enter text. Samsung K eyboar d Y our device uses a virtual QWERTY keyb oard for text entry called the Samsung keyboard .
43 Changing the Input Method When entering text, you can s elect the text input method. 1. T ouch Set up input methods in the Status bar . The Set up input methods pop-up displays. 2. T ouch an input method to activate it. 3. T ouch to display that input method’s settings.
Entering T ext 44 Entering Upper and Lo wer Case Lett ers The default case is low er case (abc). Enter upper and l ower case alphabet letters by touching Shift to toggle the case, before touching the letter key(s). • T ouch once to sw itch from abc to Abc mode.
45 Using XT9 Predictive T ext XT9 is a predictive text system tha t has next-letter prediction and regional error correction, which compensates for users pressing the wrong keys on QWERTY keyboards. 1. T ouch Set up input methods in the Status bar . The Set up input methods pop-up displays.

Entering T ext 48 Entering T ext Using Swype Swype™ is a new way to enter text on touch screens. Instead of touching each key , use your finger to trace over each letter of a word. For each word, place your finger on the first letter a nd glide to the su bs equent letters, lif ting on the last letter .
49 This example shows ho w to enter the word “this”. Put your finger down on the “t” and, with out lif ting, glide it to the “h”, then to the “i”, then over to the “s”. Here are a few tips to get you started: • Auto-spacing : When you fini sh a word, just li ft your finger an d start the next word.
Entering T ext 50 Entering Symbols and Numbers Using the Swype Keyboard: • T ouch and hold on a key to enter the symbol or number at the top of the key . • T ouc h and hold on a key until a men u of all characters availab le on that key appear s, then touch a character to enter it.
51 Using the Handwriting F eature Y ou can enter text simply by using your finger to handwrite letters on your screen. 1. From a screen where you can enter text, activate the keyboard by touching a text input field on the screen. 2. If necessary , touch Set up input methods in the Status bar and then touch Samsung keyboard .
Entering T ext 52 Handwriting Tips • For uppercase letters, write the le tter larger than the lowercase letters. • Write a dash (horizontal line) to add a space. • Delete words by sweeping backward across them. • T o di splay numbers an d symbols, touch and then touch a number or symbol ke y .
53 Using Speech R ecognition Y ou can use your voice to enter text using the Voice input feature, which lets you enter text by speaking. The Samsung keyboard recognizes your speech and enters t ext for you. 1. T ouch Set up input methods in the Status bar .
Contacts and Accoun ts 54 Section 4: Contacts an d Accounts This section explains how to manage contacts and accounts. Accounts Y our device can synchronize with a variety of accounts. With synchronization, in formation on your device is updated with any informa tion that changes in your accounts.

T ouch the Photo ID, then touch Remov e , Picture , or Ta k e picture . Contacts Display Options There are various ways to display your Contact s and general Contacts settings.

59 Link ed Contacts Y our device can synchroniz e with multiple accounts, including Google, Corporate Exchange, and other email providers. When you synchr onize contacts from thes e accounts with your device, yo u may have multiple contacts for one person.

Messaging 68 – Ringtone : Choose a ringtone for new email notificat ions or use the default ringtone and then touch OK . – Vib r at e : Choose vibrati on settings for email notifica tions. – Notify once : When enabled, a notifi cation appears in the Status Bar for new email, not for every new message.
69 • Off-peak schedule : Set how often to check for new email sent to this account during off-peak time s. Options are: Push (Automatic), Manua l, every 5 or 15 minutes, or every 1, 4, or 12 hours.
Messaging 70 The device communicates with the a ppropriate ser ver to set up your account and synchronize your email. When complete, your email ap pears in the Inbox for the account. Note: T o configure email account settings at any time, use Menu ➔ Settings .
71 •M o v e t o : Relocate the conversatio ns to another folder in the current email a ccount or in a folder within another em ail account. •D e l e t e : Delete the conversations. 3. T ouch Menu for these options: •S o r t b y : Choose a method for listing your email conversations.

A check mark indicates email sync is enable d. • Email check frequency : Set how often to check for new em ail sent to this account during. Options are: Never , ever y 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes, every hour , every 4 hours, or once a day .
75 Server setti ngs • Exchange server setting s : Configure incoming server settings. – or – Incoming settings : Configure incoming server settings. For more information, refer to “Incoming Server Settings ” on page 75. • Outgoing se ttings : Configure outgoing se r ver settings.
