Incorrect Correct Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellula r network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded w ith your subscription details, such as your PIN, available optio nal services, and man y others features.
Installing the Batter y Important! The battery provided with your device contains a Near Field Communication (NFC) antenna. T o ensure proper operation of the NFC fea tures, do not use any other battery in your device. 1. I nsert the battery i nto the opening on the back of the phone, making sure the connectors align (1).

Configuring y our Phone When you first turn on your phone, you will need to set up a few things. 1. The Welco me to A T&T Ready2Go! screen displays when you turn on your phone for the first time.

Creating a New Google Account In order to utilize your device to the fulles t extent, you will need to create a Google™ Acco unt when you first use your device. With a Google Account, Google a pplications will always be in sync between your phone and computer .

Calculator : Using this feature yo u can use the phone as a calculator . The calculat or provides the basic arithmetic functions; addition, su btraction, multiplication, and division. Y ou can also use this as a scientific calculator . For more information, re fer to “Calculator” on pa ge 184.
Flipboard : This application crea tes a personalized digital magazine out of ev erything being shared with you. Access news stories, personal feeds and other related ma terial. For more inform ation, refer to “Flipbo ard” on page 190. Gallery : The Galler y is where you view photos and play back videos.
Help : The Help application allo ws you to get more information on your phone features, applications, settings, accessories, and access to online help. For more information, r efer to “Help” on page 192. Internet : Open the web browser to st art surfing the web.
Music : The Music app allows you to play music files that you have stored on your phone and memor y card. Y ou can also create playlists . For more information, refer t o “Music” on page 89.
Play Music : With the Music application, wh ile onli ne, you can play music tha t you have ad ded to your music fil e as well as any music you copied from your PC. Whi le offline, you can listen to music y ou have copied from your PC. For more information, refer to “Google Play Musi c” on page 92.
Samsung Link : With the Samsung Link app, you can share and play content across smart devices any time and anywhere. For more inf ormation, ref er to “Samsung Link” on pa ge 86. Settings : This icon navigates to the sound and phone settings for your phone.

Customizing the Multi Window a pps The applications found within the apps panel of the Multi window can be organized by either being rearrange d or removed. Note: Only applications found within the Multi-win dow panel can be active atop another current a pplication on the screen. When launching applications th at contain multimedia files (music/video), audio from both files will be pl ayed simultaneously.

Notificati on Bar The Notification Bar includes a pull-down list to sho w information about processes that are running , recent notifications, and aler ts. T o display the Status ind icator: On the Home screen, touch and hold the Notification Bar until the pull-down displays, then drag down vertically .
Accessing Additional Panel Functions In addition to notificati ons, the Notification panel also provides quick and ready acce ss to separate device functions. These can be quickly acti vated or deactivated by toggling them on or off. Y ou can choose the functions tha t will be displayed.
50 Memor y Card Y our device lets you use a microSD (SD) or microSDHC card to expand available memory space. This secure digital card enables you to exchange ima ges, music, and data between SD-compatible devices. This section addresses the features and options of your de vice’ s SD functionality .
Erasing Files from the SD card Y ou can erase files from the SD card using the phone. 1. Ensure t he SD card is moun ted. For mo re information, refer to “Mou nting the SD Card” on page 50. 2. From the Home screen, tap Settings More Storage .

Making an Emer gency Call with a SIM car d The Emergency calling mode makes redialing an emergency number a 1-tap process. Befo re you can resume normal calling operations, you should first exit this mode. 1. From the Home screen, tap . 2. Ente r the emergency number (example: 911) and then tap .

( Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad There are two main keypa d layout keys that will change the on-screen keys within the QWERTY keypad. The available T ext Input modes are: Sym and Abc . Symbol/Numeric Mode : activates th e number , symbol, and emoticon keys.

By using the Pred ictive T ext op tion, you can ha ve next-letter prediction and regional er ro r correction, which compensates for pressing the w r ong keys on the QWERTY keyboard.

Entering T e xt Using Swype Swype™ is a text input method that allows you to enter a word by sliding your finger or stylu s from letter to letter , lifting yo ur finger bet ween words. Swyp e uses error correcting a lgorithms an d a language m odel to pred ict the next word.
• Move your finger or stylus over the a postrophe to enter contractions. • Double-tap on th e word you want to change to correct a misspelled word, the n tap the delete key to erase one character . T ouch and hol d the delete key to erase an entire word.
Section 5: Contacts an d Y our Address Book This section allows you to mana ge your daily contacts by storing their name and number in your Address Book.

Marking a Contact as Def ault When you use m essaging type ap plication s, the applic ation needs to know which informa tion is primary (defa ult) in a contact entry list. For example, you may ha ve three different contact records for John Smith, so t he applica tion will be looking for the “default” number or entr y .
Note: Y ou can also synchronize your accounts using the Settings menu. F or more info rmation, refer to “Synchronizing Accounts” on page 154. Address Book Options Y ou can access Address Book options while a t the main Address Book page or while in th e details page for a specific entry.
– Contact sharing settings : allows you to send all or individual contacts via Bluetooth in th e form of nameca rds. – A T&T Address Book : allows you to access the A T&T Address Book so you can sync your contacts. •H e l p : provides additional inform ation on using your contacts.
Groups Adding a Contact to a Group 1. From the Home screen, tap Contacts . 2. Pr ess and hold a contact that you would like to add to a group. 3. Ta p Add to group . 4. T ap the group entries that you would like to add this contact to. A checkmark will a ppear .

Copying Contacts to the SIM Card Note: When storing an Address Bo ok entry into the SIM card, only the name, phone number , and em ail address are available as fields. Also, if you move the SIM card to another phone that does not s upport additional fields on the SIM card, this additi onal information may not be availabl e.
The phone then displays a list of your current SIM contacts. 3. T ap the contacts to place a checkmark adjacent to those entries you wish to have deleted from th e SIM card. • Repeat this step for all individual e ntries you wish copied to the SIM or tap Select all to place a checkmark a longside all entries.

• Music auto off : when activated, music w ill automatically turn off after a set interval. •L y r i c s : when activated, displays lyrics when ava ilable. • Smart volume : automatically adjusts each track’ s volume to an equal level. • Voice control : allows you to use voice comm ands to control the Music app.
Editing a Playlist Besides adding and removing music files in a playlist, yo u can also rename the playlist. T o edit a playlist: Music . 1. From the Home screen, ta p 2. Ta p Playlists . 3. Press Edit titl e . 4. T ap a playlist name to edit.

Camera : •P h o t o s i z e : Select a resolution for photos. Us e higher resolution for higher qua lity . Higher resolution photos take up more memo r y . • Face detection : allows you to adjus t the camera focus based on face detection technology .
• G uidelines : Display viewfinder g uides to help compo sition when selecting subjects. •F l a s h : activate or deactivate the flash. • Voice control : activates/deactivates voice co ntrol feature that allows you to verba lly take a photo. • Contextual filename : allows you to have your location adde d as part of the filename.
•C l i p b o a r d : copies the curren tly selected are to your devi ce’ s clipboard. 5. Use the follow ing editor control s to edit your picture: Previous : move to previous photo project. Next : move to next photo project. Rotate : allows you to rota te a photo in all 4 directions.
Using the Camcorder In addition to taking photos, the camera also doubles as a camcorder that also allo ws yo u to record, view , and send videos . Note: The camera may not be able to proper ly recor d videos to a memory card with a slo w transfer speed.
Section 7: Messaging This section describes how t o send and receive different types of messa ges. It also includes the features and functionality associa ted with messaging.

Emergency Alerts This device is designed to receive wireless emergency alerts from the Commercial Mobile Ale rting System (CMAS) which may also be known as the Personal Localized Alerting Network (PLAN). If your wireless provider has chosen to participate in CMAS/PLAN, alerts are a vailable while i n the provider's coverage area.

Adding a Basic VPN Before you add a VPN you must determine which VPN protocol to use: PPTP , L2TP/I Psec PSK, L2TP/IPSec RSA, IPSec Xauth PSK, IPSec Xaut h RSA, IPSec Hybrid RSA . 1. Before using VPN, you must first set up a screen unlock PIN or passwor d.

Accessibility Accessibility services are special features to make using the device easier for those with certain physical disabilities . Use the Accessibility settings to activa te these services . Note: Y ou can download accessibi lity applicat ions from Play Store and manage their use here.
• Magnification gestures : use exaggerated gestu res such as triple-tapping, double pin ching, and dragging two fingers across the screen. • Ne gative co lors : reverse the displ ay of on-s creen color s from White text on a Black background to Black text on a White background.
Language and input This menu allows you to confi gure the language in wh ich to display the menus. Y ou can also set on-screen keyboard options. Language Y ou can change the language used by your device by following th ese steps: 1. From the Home screen, tap Settings My device Language and input Language .
Samsung K eyboard settings From this menu you can set Samsung keyboard options. 1. From the Home screen, tap Setting s My device Language and input .
• Reset settings resets the keyboard settings back to the ir original configuration. Predictive T ext Settings From this menu you can set Predictive T ext se ttings. 1. From the Home screen, tap Settings My device Language and input . My device My device 2.

• Show helpful tips : once enabled, displays he lpful tips and hints as you are using Swype. • V ers io n : displays the software v ersion information. 8. Ta p Updates on the left side of th e screen to download any new Swype updates. If an update is available, it will display under the updates heading.
5. Scro ll down to the General section to access the following options: • Speech rate : Set the speed at which th e text is spoken. • Listen to an example : Play a sample of spee ch synthesis (available if voice data is insta lled). Pointer speed This option sets your Pointer speed.
• Air move : use one hand to press a nd hold an icon then move your other hand to the left o r to the right above the sensor to move the icon to another pag e. Y ou can also use this feature in your calendar to mov e events to another day . T ap the ON/OFF icon to turn it on.
• Capture screen : Once enabled, you can capture any on-screen information s wiping across the screen. In a single motion, press the side of y our hand on the scre en and swipe form left to right. The image is then copied to the clipboard. T ap the ON/OFF icon to turn it on.
Air view With the Air view feature, you can ho ver your finger over the screen and Air view feat ures will be displayed. For example, you can hover your finger over a sc heduled item in your calendar to see more details. Settings My device Air view .

The Factory data reset screen displays reset information. 3. Ta p Reset device , then follow th e prompts to perfo rm the reset. Warning! Performing a Factory data reset wil l erase all data from your phone and internal SD ca rd, including your Google account, system and applica tion data and settings, and downloaded applica tions.

Forgotten SIM PIN pass w ord If you enter the wrong SIM PIN more than 3 times, you wi ll need to contact your A T&T Customer Service Representa tive to get the PUK code for your device. 1. Each time you enter a wrong SIM PIN number the phone will display how many attempts you have remainin g.
Note: If a device uses multiple enabl ed administration applica tions, the strictest policy is enforced. 1. From the Home screen, tap Settings More Security . 2. Ta p Device administrators . 3. Select a de vice administrator and fo llow the prompts.
4. Scro ll to the bottom of the details screen and t ap Disable to disable a System certificate or Remove to remove a User certificate. Caution! When you disable a system CA certificat e, the Disable button chan ges to Enable , so you can enable the certificate again, if necessar y .
Memor y Usa ge See how memory is being used by Downloaded or Running applications. 1. From a Home screen, tap Settings More Application manager . 2. Ta p Downloaded , Running , or All to display memor y usage for that c ategory of applications.
•S t o p : Stops the application from run ning on the device. This is usually done prior to unins talling the application. Warning! Not all ser vices can be stopped. Stopping ser vices may have undesirable consequences on the application or Android System.

Disconnecting a pai red device Disconnecting a paired device breaks the connection between the device and your phone, but retains the knowledge of the pa iring. At a later point when you wish to reconnect the device, there is no need to setup the connection information again.
