17 Getting to know your phone Antenna A device for transmitting or receiving sign als. An antenna makes the call sound clear er when fully e xtended. Use only in the normal position and do not touch t he antenna e xcessively when the phone is acti ve.

29 Using your Phone’s M enus The phone offers a range of functions that allow you to tailor the phone to your personal requirements. These functions are arranged in me nus and submenus. The menus a nd submenus ca n be accesse d by scrol ling or using shortcuts.
30 9. Press the key in the center to confirm your sele ction. 10. Y our phone saves this setting and returns to standby mode. Retu rning to th e Pr evious Menu ¨ T o retu rn to the previous menu, press the key . ¨ Select the key to exit t he menu without savin g the setting.
31 Your phone’s modes Lock Mode When you lock your phone using t he Lock mode m enu option, phone use becomes r estricted. Y ou can receive messages and calls, but you cannot make an outgoing call until t he phone is unlocked. T o unlock the phone, press , , , or and ente r the lock code.
32 Convers ation/T alk Mode Y ou can send and answer calls only when your phone is turned on. During a cal l, the phone i s in conversa tion or ta lk mode. While y ou are in this m ode, pressing gives you a list of options ref erred to as ‘InUse Options’ .
33 The Top Lin e of the Displ ay Screen Display indicators (or icons) appear across the top of your phone’ s display screen. The sig nal st rength and battery strength icons are always displayed, but the other icons appear base d your phone’ s operating mode.
34 ¨ In your home service area, this indicator does not display . ¨ In a preferred analog or digital roaming area (where your service provider has a roaming a greement in pl ace), this indicator i s on, but not flashing. ¨ In an an alog o r digita l area that is n ot cove red by yo ur phone’s service pr ovider , this indica tor is on.
35 Using the Battery Note: Y our phone comes pac kaged with a partially charged, rechargeable standard Li- ion bat tery . The ph one can be used w hile the battery i s charging, but must be fully charg ed the first time you use your phon e otherwise the battery coul d be damaged.
36 Removi ng the Battery T o remove the battery from your phone: 1. T urn the phone of f (by pressing and hold ing until the clos ing animation seq uence be gins.) 2. Push the catch butto n up on the top of th e battery on the back side of the phone. (se e illustra tion).
37 Low B atter y Indi cato r Y ou can t ell whether or not your batt ery needs to be recharged by checking the indicator (it’ s located in the upper -right corner of the d ispla y). The p resen ce of a ll thre e bars indi cates a ful l cha rge, two bars indicates a medium charge, and one bar indicates a minimum charge.

The LED on the travel charger indicate s the status of the battery charge. ¨ Red indicates that the battery is charging. ¨ Green indicates that the battery is fully charged. ¨ Y ello w indicates that the battery is operating at a temperature th at is too high or too low , or that the char ger is not plu gged in corr ectly .
39 Caring for t he Battery Protecting your ba ttery The guidelines l isted below help yo u get the mos t out of your battery’ s performance. ¨ Use only Samsung approved batteries an d chargers. Sa msung chargers are designed to maximize battery life.
40 Calls Outgoing T o pla ce a call: 1. Press to power on your phone. 2. Enter the phone n umber you w ish to call (u p to 32 digits) by p ressing th e digit keys. The phone number is displayed from l eft to right . 3. Press the key . The phone calls t he numb er ente red.
41 Missed Y our phone keeps a list of calls that were not answered when the phone is on and serv ice is available . The phone indicates a m issed call by displaying a text notification on the screen.
42 Three Way Calling Y our phone is also able to conference call or three way call t wo other people. When you are talking to someone, you can conference in anoth er cal ler , so all three can ta lk to eac h other . Note : You are billed for both calls according to your service plan.

49 Phone Book Y our phone allows you st ore up to 500 numbers and names in the Phone Book. Each e ntry can have up to 8 a ssociated phone numbers. Each entry can contain up to 32 digits including hard pauses, with an associ ated na me of up to 1 2 charact ers.
50 Answering a Call When you receive a call, the phone will ring and a phone icon is displa yed on the scre en. If th e calle r ca n be id enti fied, the c alle r’ s phone number (o r name if pr e-stored in y our Phone Book is displayed. If the caller cannot be identified only the phone icon displays.

52 Add Entry This menu pe rmits you to st ore a phone number , na me, location, category , relation, and ringer type in your Phone Book. T o add an ent ry: 1. Press to displa y the men u. 2. Press for Phone Book. 3. Press for Add Entry . 4. The display sc reen prompt s ‘Add Ent ry #’.
53 ¨ Secret: This field a dvises if this number i s one o f your ‘ secret’ numbers. ¨ Category: This is the category label associated with the ent ry . For example; V oice Dial, Speed Dial, Home, Office, Mobile, Pager , or Fax. ¨ Relati on: Pressing the scroll key disp lays both the number and the name associated with it.
54 7. Press to display the “Memory” screen. 8. Enter the desired memory location usin g the keypad. 9. Press to save and exit. Note : Follow the steps listed above when memory location 411 or 311 are accidentally over wr itten. Pause D ialing When you call automated syst ems, you are usually required to enter a password or account number .
55 ¨ P pause - This option is used to ent er a hard pause that will stop the dialin g sequence. Enter th e account numbe r or password digits after entering th is pause. ¨ T pause - This pause is an automatic two second del ay in the dialing sequence.
56 Manual pa use dialing T o perform manual pause dialing without first storing the number in the Phone Book, enter pauses manually using the Digit Entry menu during the dialing proce ss. T o manually dial a number using a pause(s): 1. Enter the phone nu mber of the service you want to call.

66 Web/MiniBrowser Y our phone comes e quipped with wireless Intern et access by using the MiniBrowser . The MiniBrowser allows you to access up-to-the-minute information through you r phone. Vi ew specially designed v ersions of popul ar Internet sites which may include news, s ports, weather , stock quotes, etc.

72 Alphabetical Text Entry Alphabetical text cha racters may be enter ed in the alpha Inpu t Mode by pressing the ke y corresponding to the letter that you want to enter . Press th e same k ey rep eatedl y to change b etwee n the cha racter s represented by each key .
73 Symbol E ntry Symbol mode enables you to enter symbols into a text messa ge. Use the key to display the opt ions and press the key up or down select the sy mbol option. W hen displaye d toggle using the to select the symbols. When in Symbol input mode, press the key shown on the display under the symbol that you desire to enter .
74 T9 Word Text Entry T9 Word enables you to easily ent er text. T9 (for “text on 9 keys”) requires only one key press per lette r and quickly recognizes the most commonly used word of a numeric sequence. For e xampl e, to enter t he word “ hello, ” you can spell o ut t he wor d by pressing only five keys, 4-3-5-5-6.
75 Schedule r Today Y ou can schedule up to 9 events for the current day by indicating each event’ s start and end time. Y ou can be alerted by the Calendar function befor e an even t is com menced . Event s that are s chedul ed for future dates automa tically disp lay on your T oday events sc hedule for that particular day .
