Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your SCH-r450 phone by activating your service, setting up your Voicemail, or getting an understanding of how this manual is put together .
5 1. Insert the top end of the battery first, matching the gold contacts on the inside of the batte ry to those on the phone. 2. Press lightly on the bottom e nd of the batte ry do wn into the phone un til it slips i nto place. 3. Press lightly down and inward on th e bottom of t he battery cover .
Getting Started 6 Use th e Trav el Adap ter The travel adapter included with your phone is a convenient, light-weight charger that rapidly charges your phone from any 120/220 VAC outlet. 1. Plug the large end of the T ravel Adapter into a standard 120 V AC or 220 V AC wall outlet.
7 3. Once the phone finds a sign al, the time, date, and da y appear near the top of the di splay . 4. Y ou’re now ready to pl ace and receive calls. Note: If you are outside of your carrier’ s coverage or roaming area, the No Service icon ( ) appears at the top of the phone’s display .

17 Lock Mode When the phone is in Lock Mode , restrictions are placed on phone use. Y ou can receive calls and messag es, but cann ot place outgoing calls (except for emer gency number s) unt il you unlock the phone. Lock Mode also rest ricts access to menus and the volume key .
Understanding Y our Phon e 18 • T o disable Speakerphone Mode: 䊳 Press and hold until “ Speakerphone Off ” appears in the display . Note: Y our phone automatically enters Speakerphone Mode when you dial a call using the QWERTY keypad and the called phone begins ringing.
19 Camera Mode Camera mode lets yo u activate your phone ’ s cam era to take pictures. In Camera mo de, you can also adjust the resolution and appearance of your pictures.
Call Functions 20 Section 3: Call Functions This section provides procedur es for making and answering calls. This section al so describes features, such as call logs and call timers, that help you make calls and manage your call time. Note: The procedures in this section can be performed using the phone keypad or the QWERTY keypad.
21 Man ual Paus e Calling T o manuall y call a number with pa use(s) without stor ing it in your Contacts list: 1. In standby mode, enter the number you wish to call. 2. Press the Options soft ke y . The f ollowing pause opt ions appear in the display: • 2-Sec P ause — A 2-second pa use after which dialing re sumes.

Press and hold the number key representing th e third digit of the desired Contact’ s speed dial number . 23 4. Say “ Ye s ” t o confirm the name or “ No ” to hear the next name, or use the keypad to se lect the correct name from the list. (See “Ch oice Lists” on page 71, for more information.) • Press the Repeat soft key to say the name again.
Call Functions 24 • If you voice dial a contact that contains W ait(s), wait for the appropriate prompt(s) from the number you are calling (credit ca rd number , bank account number , and so on) and enter the appropriate response(s).
25 Tip: Y ou can also enter the Vol u me > Voice Calls sub-menu from standby mode by pressing or , then selecting Settings ➔ Sound Setting s ➔ Vol u me ➔ Voice Calls . Use the Volume key on the right side of your phone to adjust the ringer volume setting.
Call Functions 26 Silence an Incoming Ring T o temporarily silence the in coming call ri nger: 䊳 While your phone is ringing, pres s the V olume key ( ), on the left side of the phone, up or down. Ignore an Incom ing Call Ignored calls are immedi ately forwarded to Voicemail.
27 Outgoing Ca lls The last 90 outgoing ca lls are store d in the Outgoi ng calls log. Review the Outgoing call s log for the time and da te of a call, as well as other information. 1. In standby mode, press or , then select Calls ➔ Outgoing Calls .
Call Functions 28 – Erase — Erase the selected call from your Incomin g calls list. – Lock / Unlock — Blocks/perm its erasure of the select ed call from your Incoming calls list. – Erase all — Erase all unl ocked calls from your Incoming calls list.
29 3. T o Erase al l calls, press the Ye s so ft key . T o keep the calls, press the No soft key . Call Timer View the duration of your last ca ll, total c alls, and calls made during the life of your phone usi ng the Call timer feature. Call timer is not for billing purposes.
Call Functions 30 • Lifetime Data Counter — Shows the amount of data ( in kilobytes) that yo ur phone has transmitted and rece ived since b eing activated. 2. T o reset a timer othe r than Li fetime Data Counter , highlight the timer you want to reset and press the Reset soft key .

33 Section 5: Entering T e xt This section outlines ho w to select the desi red text entry mode when entering characters using th e phone keypad or the nested, QWERTY keyboard-style keypad. Thi s section also describes how to use the T9 predictive text entry system to reduce the number of key strokes needed t o enter text.
Entering T ext 34 Note: T9 Word does not support the QWERTY keypad, which does not need this function. • Abc — Enter letters, numbers, and symbols by us ing the QWERTY keypad or by repeatedly pressing each phone key until the desired character (as shown on the key) appears in the disp lay .
35 T9 W ord recognizes that th e most co mmonly used word for the numeric sequence you just entered is “Samsung.” If more than on e word shares the same numeric se quence, T9 W ord provides the m ost commonly us ed word, any ad ditional words appear in a pop-up win dow , in which you can select a de sired word.

The Group List screen appears in the display . 2. Highlight the Group you wish to delete, then press the Options soft key , and select Erase .
@metro 50 Section 7: @metro With @metro, you can download fu ll featured app lications over the air including games, personaliz ed ring tones, pictures, and more. Y ou can send and receive instant messa ges and email, or browse the web to catch up on all the latest news.

@metro 52 Restoring Apps Disabled apps can be quickly rest ored at no additional purchase cost. T o restore an a pp, run the applicatio n you want to restor e from the Main Menu. Y ou will be guided through the restoration process. Expired A pps Apps that were purchased based on the number of uses or time expire.
53 Section 8: Messaging This section explains how to send or receive different types of messages. This section also describes the featu res and functionality associat ed with messaging. Note: Although the procedures in this section are written for the phone keypad, you can also perform these procedures using the QWERTY keypad.
Messaging 54 – Edit Send T o — Edit the recipient’ s number or email address. – Add Quick T ext — Insert p re-composed text in you r message. – Save As Draft — Save the me ssage to your Draft folder . – Priority Level — Cho os e High or Normal .
55 2. Using the display as a viewfinde r , when the imag e that you wish to send appears in the display , press TA K E ( o r ) to take a picture. Note: For more information about using the camera feature in your phone, see “Camera” on page 75. 3. Press Send ( or ) to save the picture and begin delivery process.

61 Review Messages in the Outbo x 1. In standby mode, press the Messages shortcut (Down navigat ion) key or press , then sele ct Outbox . Y our list of sent messages appear in the display . 2. Highlight a message in the li st, you have the following options: • T o r emove the hi ghlighte d message fro m the Inbox, press the Erase soft key.
Messaging 62 Draft Bo x Messages in the Draft Box are t hose that ha ve been composed but never sent. Y ou can return to the Draft Bo x at any time to view , edit, or send a draft message.
63 • Delivery Ack — Cho os e On or Off — Requests conf irmat ion when your message is received. • Add T o Contacts — Save the re cipient’s number or e-mail address to your Contacts. 5. Select an option to perform its functio n. 6. When you have completed composing your message, press SEND ( or ) to send it.

65 Note: This function erases all messages in the selected message box. T o delete a single message, go to the respective message box, highlight the message, and press the Erase soft key .
