Getting Started 4 Section 2: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your Samsung Delve phone by activating your service, setting up your V oicemail, or getting an understanding of how this manual is pu t together .
5 Use the T rav el Ada pter The travel adapter included with your phone is a convenient, light-weight charger that rapidly charges your phone from any 120/220 V AC outlet. 1. Plug the large e nd of the T ravel Adapter into a standard 120 V AC or 220 VAC wall outlet.
Getting Started 6 Import ant!: Y ou must fully charge the ba ttery the first time you use your phone, otherwise you could damage the battery. From fully discharged to fully charged, the battery requires up to 4 hours of charge time.

Note: As with any other radio-transmitting device, do not touch the antenna (at the bottom of the phone) while using your phone as this can affect call quality and can cause the phone to operate at a higher power level than is necessary.

The top line of your phone’ s display contains icons that indicate network status, battery power , signal strength, connection type, and more. 2. T apping the right arrow tab on the left side of the display opens the Widget bar that li sts availa ble shortcut widgets.

Call Functions 20 Section 4: Call Functions This section explains how to make or answer a call. This section also inc ludes the features and f unctionality associ ated with making or answering a call. Making a Call — Number Entr y Dialing 1. In standby mode, press the Dialer soft key .
21 Manu al Pause Calling When you call aut omated syste m s (like banking services), you are often requir ed to enter a passwo rd or account number . Instead of m anually entering th e numbers each time, you can store the numbers in your Contacts along with special characters called pauses.
Call Functions 22 If the selected C ontacts entry has more than one number , the entry’ s information appears in the display . • Select th e number y ou wish to dial. 4. Press the Add soft key . 5. The selected Contact’ s number appears in the Dialer screen.
23 Making a Call — V oice Dialing Y our Delve mobile phone incl udes state-of-the-art voice recognition softwa re that lets you dial num bers usin g your vo ice. Using Voice Dial Use the V oice Dial command to di al any number stored in your Contacts list by sayi ng the name of the contact (Name Dial ing).

Call Functions 30 Data Calls Y ou can review all of the data calls log entri es for the time and date of a call, as wel l as other information. 1. In standby mode, press the Menu soft key , the n select Calls . The Calls list appears in the display showing All calls.
31 • All Calls — View the duration of the total ca ll, incoming, ou tgoing, and data calls ma de on your phone since all timers were last reset. • Last Reset — View the time and date all timers were last res et. • Lifetime Calls — View the number and total durat ion of all calls since your phone was ac tivated.
Call Functions 32 Note: Some features may be unavailable while roaming. Roaming also consumes additional power from the batter y requiring more frequent recharging. Contact your Wireless Provider for more information about Roaming. How R oamin g Works Roam Option lets you set roaming preferences if you move in and out of your home network.
33 Section 5: Menu Naviga tion This section explains the men u navi gation for your phone. It also describes the menus availa ble with your phone. Menu Naviga tion Access menus using the Menu soft key , other soft key s, or icons on the Widget Bar or Shortcut Bar .
Menu Navigation 34 3. Press, hold, and slid e the icon to the right until it is free of the Widget Bar . The icon now displays on the standby screen and expands in siz e. Note: Y ou can position a Widg et icon as needed by pressing, holding, and sliding it.
35 Soft Keys The following soft keys are available during a call : • Dialer — Opens the Dialer s creen to enable you to place another call while the current call remains acti ve. • Contacts — Opens the Conta cts list screen. • Messages — Launches the Messages menu.

37 3. Select the Name field. The 3X4 Keypad text entry screen appears in the display . • If desired, select another text entry screen. ( For more informati on, refer to “Changing T ext Entry Scre ens” on page 49.) 4. Enter a name or phrase to associate with the new Contact.

Entering T ext 50 The following options ap pear in the display: • 3X4 Keypad — Displays the phone -style touch keypad. •Q W E R T Y — Displays the keyboard-st yle touch keypad, in landscape mod e. • Handwriting box — Displays the divided text entry screen with the handwritte n text entry field at th e bottom.
51 Accessing the Divided Handwriting Recognition Scr een The divided Handwriting Recognition screen offers separate messag e text (upp er) and dedica ted handwriting (lower) fields.

Entering T ext 54 If more than one word shares the same numeric sequence, T9 W ord provides the most com monly used word, any additional w ords appear in a scro llable pop -up list, in w hich you can select a p referred word. Note: T o enter a space, press .
55 䊳 While composing a text messa ge, enter symbols by using one of following keypa ds: • Using the ph one keypad: – Press the Symbols soft key . The first of four symbol screens appears in the display . – Use the Prev and Next soft keys to page through the other symbols, if desired.

Thi s section also describes the features and functi onality associated with messaging. Creating and Sending New Messages This section guides yo u through procedures for creating and sending text, picture, and postcards.

Messaging 58 Creating and Se nding a Picture Message 1. In standby mode, press the Messages soft key , then select Create Message ➔ Picture Message . The Picture Msg screen appears in the display showing the To list. Tip: Y ou can also access Messa ges by pressing the Menu soft key and selecting Messages .
59 • T o acti vate the phone’s camera and take a new picture, select Ta k e Photo . (For more inform ation, refer to “Camera-Camcorder” on page 77.) Once you’ve take a photo, press the Send soft key. • T o access your photo gall ery, select My Images .

63 • Deferred Delivery Tim e — Lets you set a Date and Tim e when this me ssage will be deli vered. 2. Select any de sired options and va lues for those options. 3. T o save your settings, press the OK soft key . Y ou’re returned to the messa ge creation screen.

Messaging 66 Outbo x Y our phone stores outgoing messag es in the Outbox, regardless of whether the message was successf ully sent to, or received by , the addressee. Tip: Verify whether and when a message or e-mail was successfully received by enabling the Delivery Ack message send option.
67 • T o delete one or mo re messages, press the Erase soft key , sel ect the message( s) to be deleted , then press the Erase soft key again. • T o access other options, press the More soft key. The following options appear in the display: – Add T o Contacts — Lets you add the sender’ s number or E-mail address to your Conta cts list.
Messaging 68 • Outbox — Lets you delete all messa ges fro m your Outbox . • Drafts — Lets you delete all draf t messages from the Draf ts folder . • All Messages — Lets you delete all messages from all message folders. •E - M a i l — Lets yo u delete all mes sages from your E-M ail message folder(s).
69 • Picture/V ideo Msg Down load — When set to On , your Delve automatically downloads Picture and Video messages to your Inbox folder wh en they are receiv ed. When set to Off , you are prom pted to select wh ether to download t he message now or late r .
E-mail 70 Section 9: E-mail The E-Mail feature is an i ntegrated messaging a pplicat ion that lets you send and receive e-mail messages from yo ur personal e- mail account(s) and/or from your business e-mail account. This section details how to la unch the E-Mail feature.
71 Section 10: Alltel Shop This section explai ns the Alltel Shop fe atures where users can download multimedia, a pplicatio ns, games, and check news and sports. Finding Applications With Alltel Sho p, you can download full featured applica tions over the air including games, personalized ring tones, pictures, and more.

Alltel Web 74 • Links (embedded in content). • Numbered options (some may not b e numbered). • Simple text. Y ou can act upon options or links by selecting them. Using Links Links have several pur poses, such as jumping to a different page, to a different site, or even initiating a phone call.

Alltel Navigation 76 Section 13: Alltel Na vigation Alltel Navigation let s you find yo ur way to a desired destination by letting you access maps and by providing voice and on-screen driving directions. This section details ho w to launch the Na vigation fea ture.

81 Self T imer in use — Delays the camera shutter from 3 to 10 seconds after you pr ess the Camera key ( ). Battery Level — Number black bars indicates level of charge. When the battery is lo w, an empty battery icon flashes and the phone sounds an alert, which indicates your phone is about to shut down.
Camera-Camcorder 82 Quality — Indicates camcorde r’ s video quality se tting. (Y ou can change the video quality setting. For more information, refer to “Quality” on page 90 .) Phone Mem or y — Indicates videos will be stored in the phone’ s memory .

85 Brig htness Brightness lets you tempor arily lighten the pictures you take. Increasing the Brightness (-4 – +4) lightens your pictures (0 is normal). 1. In camera mode, press . The Brightness adjustment appears in the display . 2. T o brighten your next pictur e(s), press .
Camera-Camcorder 86 1. In camera mode, press ( ), then select Camera T ab ➔ White Balance . The name of the current White Balance setting appears in the second line of the display . The options are : •A u t o — The camera automaticall y adjusts co lor balance to available lig ht.
87 Exp osure me tering 1. In camera mode, press ( ), then select Camera T ab ➔ Exposure metering . The following options appear in the display: •N o r m a l — Adjusts exp osure to the averag e light level over a la rge picture area . • Center -weighted — Adjusts exposure to the average light level over a cente r portion of the subject.
Camera-Camcorder 88 •O n 2. Select the Alltel Mypics remind er setting of your choice, then press the OK button. Y ou’re returned to the camera viewfinder screen. Guideline Shows a cross hatch pattern in the view finder screen. 1. In camera mode, press ( ), t hen select Commo n T ab ➔ Guideline .
89 Zoom Zoom lets you tem porarily enlarge the video s you take. Increasing the Zoo m (2 – 9) enlarges your vi deos (1 is normal). 䊳 In camcorder mode, use the Up and Down V olume keys to adjust the Zoo m (the screen image enlarges to show the affects of your changes).
Camera-Camcorder 90 2. Select the desired delay . The camcorder viewfinder screen appears in the display . The next time you the Ca mer a key ( ), a countdo wn timer in the display indicates the time re maining before the camcorder starts reco rding the video.
91 The options are: •A u t o — The ca mcorder autom atically adjust s color balance to available lig ht. • Daylight — Use this setting wh en recordin g videos in full sun . • Cloudy — Use this setting when recording videos in clou dy conditi ons.

93 End Sound Choose from two different soun ds whenever you stop video recording. Aside from being a cool sound effect , End Sound acts as an audible reminder that your camcorder has stopped recording a video. 1. In camcorder mode, press the Settings button, then select Common T ab ➔ End Sound .

Music Player 98 5. Elapsed Time and T otal Time — Show how many hours, minutes, and seconds of the music file have been play ed and shows how long the music file is in hours, minutes, and seconds.
