Getting Started 6 Special T ext In this manual, you’ll find text that is s et apart from the rest . These are intended to point ou t important info rmation, share quick methods for activati ng fe atures, to define terms, and more.
7 SIM Card Y our device uses a 4G L TE SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) . The 4G L TE SIM is a small, re ctangular plastic card th at stores your device number , in formation about your w ireless service, and may contain ot her information such as messages an d contacts.
Getting Started 8 Batt er y Y our device is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li-Ion batter y . A Charging Head and USB cable are included with the device, for charging the batter y . Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the ba ttery before usin g your device for the first time.
9 T ur ning Y our Device On and Off T ur ning Y our Device On Press and hold the Powe r / Lock Key . While powering on, the device connects with the network, then displays the Home screen and active alerts. T ur ning Y our Device Off 1. Press and hold the Pow e r / Lock Key .
Getting Started 10 Y our Google Account Y our new device uses your G oogle account to fully utilize its Android features, incl uding Gmai l, Google T alk and Android Market. When you turn on your device for the first time, follow the prompts to set up a connection with your existing Google account, or create a new Google account.

17 Extended Home Screen The Home screen con sists of the Home page, plus pages that extend beyond the display width to provide more space for adding shortcuts, widgets and fo lders. Slide your finger horizontally across the screen to scrol l to the left or right side pages.

Understanding Y our Device 20 Quick launc h / Screen capture Quick launch is a multifunctional soft key on the System Bar , to allow you to quickly launch a favorite app or feature. By default, it is set to Screen Capture , to take a picture of the current screen and save it to the clipboard.
21 Quick Settings Quick Settings and Notification s display the current date and time, network and battery status, Wi-Fi st atus and notifications. T ouch Status in the System bar to display Quick Settings. T ouch items to open them, or touch X to dismiss the notifica tion.

25 Entering T e xt T ext Input Methods Y our device offers several text input methods: • Samsung keyboard : Enter text by touching keys on a virtual QWERTY keyboard. Samsung keyp ad includes optional predictive text, which matches your key to uches to common words so you can select a word to inser t it into your text.
Understanding Y our Device 26 Entering T ext Using the Samsung K eyboard The Samsung keyboard is a custom virtual QWER TY keyboard, featuring optional pred ictive text. Input characters by tapping the on-screen keys with you r finger , or use speech recognition.
27 Using Google voice typing Enter text by speaking. Google voice typing recognizes your speech and enters text for you. T o enable Google voice typing: To u c h Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Language and input ➔ Google voice typi ng . For more information , see “Keyboards and input methods” on page 99.

Understanding Y our Device 30 T ask Manager Y our device can run apps sim ultaneously , with some apps running in the background. Use T ask Manager to see which apps are r unning on your device, and to en d running ap ps to extend battery life. Y ou can also unin stall apps from your device and check memor y usage.
31 Section 3: Accounts and Conta cts Accounts Y our device provides the ability to synchronize infor mation from a variety of accounts, including Google, a Corporate Exchange server , and Email acco unts. With synchronization, you can ensure that information on you r device is updated with any informa tion that changes in your accounts.
Accounts and Contac ts 32 Remo ving an account Important! Removing an account also deletes all of it s messages, contacts and other da ta from the device. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Accounts and sync . 2. T ouch an account to display its settings, then touch Remove account .
33 Contacts Creating Contacts 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Contacts ➔ . 2. At the prompt, select an account for saving the contact (options depend on the acco unts you have set up, and whether a memor y card is installed). Y ou can also add a new account here.

35 My Profile My Profile contains your own contact information, displayed as ME in Contacts. Y ou can se nd My Profile to friends via Bluetooth, as an attachment in Email or Gmail, or to a Wi-Fi device via Wi-Fi Direct. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Contacts .

37 J oining Contacts Y our device can synchronize c ont acts with multiple accounts. When you synchroniz e contacts with your device, you may have multiple contacts for one person. When you join contacts, all the contact’ s informa tion displays in one Contact record.
Accounts and Contac ts 38 Impor ting and Expor ting Contacts T o back up and restore your contact in formation, you can export your contact list to devi ce memory (USB st orage) or a memor y card. Y ou ca n import co ntacts (pr eviously exported) from device memory (USB sto r age), a memor y card or the SIM card.

41 Merging Contacts with Google If you have contacts stored on your device, you can merge those contacts with your Goo gle account, to back them up and have them avai lable from any dev ice. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Contacts , then touch Menu ➔ Merge with Google .
Messaging 42 Section 4: Messaging This section describes ho w to send and receive messa ges, and other features as sociated with messaging. 43 Composing and Sending Email 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Email . 2. Select an account, then tou ch Compose . 3. T ouch fields to enter reci pients, a subject, and the email text. Y ou can also attach files, and set options f or Priority and T racking options.
Messaging 44 Gmail Send and receive emails via Gmail, Google’s web-based email. Setting Up Y our Gmail Account The first time you launch Gmail, your device will prompt you to set up your Google accoun t, if you hav en’t already se t it up. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Gmail .

AllShare Use AllShare to share multimedi a content from your device, via Wi-Fi, with other DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) certified devices.
49 AllShare Options 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ AllShare . 2. T ouch to configure options: • Media serv er name : View or edit the name of your device. This name is how other devices identify share requests from you r device. •S h a r e m e d i a : Select types of media you want to share.

51 Picture Options 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Camera . 2. Use these options to conf igure the cam era: • Self portrait : Switch between the ba ck camera and the front camera, for self-p ortraits. • Shooting mode : Choose an automatic sho oting mode.
Apps 52 R ecording Videos Use the Camera to record video. Important! Do not take videos of people without their permission. Do not take videos in places where cameras ar e not allowe d. Do not take videos in places where you may interfere with another person’s privac y.

59 Local Google Places is now Google Local, to use your location to help you find nearby destinations , such as restaurants, bars, hotels, attractio ns, A TMs and gas sta tions, or you can enter a location. Connections 64 Section 6: Connection s Y our device inc l udes features to connect to the internet and to other devices. W i-Fi Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technolog y that provides access to local area networks , and to other Wi-Fi Direct devices.
65 Scanning and Connecting to a Wi-Fi Netw or k When you turn on Wi-Fi, your device searches for avai lable Wi-Fi connections, then displays them on screen. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings . 2. T ouch Wi-Fi . 3. Y our device automatically sca ns for nearby Wi-Fi networks and displays them.
Connections 66 W i-Fi Direct Wi-Fi Direct is a standard that allo ws devices to connect to each other directly via Wi-Fi, without a Wi-Fi network or hotspot, and without havin g to set up the connection. This type of connection is commonly called peer-to-peer .
67 Mobile Hotspot Use the Mobile Hotspot feat ure to share your de vice’ s internet connection with a PC or other device via W i-Fi. Note: Using your device as a mob ile hotspot consumes battery power and increases your data usage. Roaming while using your device as a mobile hotspot will incur extra data charges.
Connections 68 Connecting a De vice via Mobile Hotspot Use the other device’ s Wi-Fi control to connect to your device’ s Mobile Hotspot. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings . 2. T ouch Mobile Hotspot . 3. Activate Wi-Fi on the device, usin g the device’ s Wi-Fi control.
69 Pairing w ith a Bluetooth Device Search for a Bluetooth device an d pair with it, to exchange informatio n between your device an d the target device. After pairing, your device and th e target device will recognize eac h other and exchange informatio n without a passcode or PIN.
Connections 70 T ethering The tethering features allow you to share your device’ s mobile data network connectio n with othe r devices via USB or Bluetooth. T ouch Help under T ethering settings to view informa tion about tetheri ng, and for links to more in formation.
71 Connecting to a Comp uter Y ou can use a USB cable to connect your device to a Windows computer , and transfer music, pictures, and other files between the computer and your device. This connection uses the MTP protocol, supported by most rece nt versions of Windows.

To u c h Menu ➔ Advanced : • Auto-connect : When enabled, your de vice will automatically connect to known Wi-Fi netw orks when you launch a high- data-usage application, even if Wi-Fi is turned off when you launch the application.

91 Google location ser vices Enable or disable use of lo cation s erivces provided by Google. Important! By selecting Google loca tion services , you are allowing Google’s location service to collect anonymous location da ta. Some data may be stored on your device.
Settings 92 Face unlock When enabled, you unlock th e device by looking at the screen. This option offers lo w security , because someone who looks similar to you coul d unlock your device, but you can also set up backup unlock by PIN or pattern. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Security .
