G ETTING S TAR TED 2.5 2 Installing the Toner Cartridge 1 Open the front door . 2 R emove the st arter toner cartrid ge from its bag. Gently ro ll the cartridge 5 or 6 times to distribute the toner . Thoroughly roll ing the cartri dge will ass ure maximum copies per cartr idge.
G ETTING S TARTED 2.6 3 Hold the toner cartridge by the handle. Slowly insert the cartridge into th e opening in the mac hine. T a bs on the sides of the cartridge and corr esponding grooves within the machine will guide the cartridge into the correct position until it locks into place completely .
G ETTING S TAR TED 2.7 2 Loading Pa per The paper tra y can hold a maximum of 250 sheets of 20 lb plain paper . T o load a stack of Le tter-sized paper: 1 Pull open the paper tray and remov e it from the machine. 2 F an the edges of the pa per stack to sepa r ate the pages.

G ETTING S TAR TED 2.9 2 Changing the Size of the Paper in the Paper Tray T o load longer sizes of paper , such as Legal-sized pa per , you need to adjust the paper guides to extend the paper tray . 1 After pressing and unlatching the guide lock, s lide the paper length guide out comple tely to extend the paper tray to its full length.
G ETTING S TARTED 2.10 3 Squeeze the width guide, as shown and slide it to the stack of paper until it lightly touches the side of the stack. G ETTING S TARTED 2.12 UK users should plug the cord of the extension phone into the supplied T AM lead and p lug the cord of the T AM lead int o th e EXT jack on the back of your machine. N OTES : • Use the T AM lead and the teleph one line cord sup plied wit h your machine.
G ETTING S TAR TED 2.13 2 If you want to use a parallel printer cable, purchase only an IEEE-1284 compliant parallel cable and connect it to the para llel connector on your ma chine. Push the metal clips down to fit inside th e notches on the cable p lug.
G ETTING S TARTED 2.14 Turning the Machine On 1 Plug one end of the supplied thr ee-pronged electrical cord into the AC socket on the machine a nd the other end into a properly grounded AC outlet. 2 Press the power switch to turn the machine on. “W arming Up Please W a it” app ears on the display indicat ing that the machine is now on.

The Machine ID , conta ining your telephone number and name (or company name), wi ll be printed at the top of each page sent from your machine.
G ETTING S TAR TED 2.17 2 Entering Characters U sing the Number Keypad As you perform v arious tasks, you need to enter names and numbers. For example, when you set up your machine, y ou enter your name (or your compan y’ s name) and telephone number .

P APER H ANDLING 3.3 3 Guidelines f or Pape r and Special Ma terials When selecting or loading paper , envelopes, or other special material, keep these guidelines in mind: • Alwa ys use pap er and other materials that conform with the specifications listed under “Paper Specifications” on p age F .
P APER H ANDLING 3.4 - T o avoid smudging caused by fingerprints, handle them carefully . - T o avoid fading, do not expose printed transparenci es to prolonged sunlight. •F o r l a b e l s : - V erify that their adhesive ma terial can tolerate a fusing temperature of 200 o C (392 o F) for 0.

P APER H ANDLING 3.6 In th e Mult ipurpose Tray The Multipurpos e tray can hold several sizes and types of print material, such as transparenci es, postcards, note car ds, and envelopes. It is useful for single page printing on letterhead or colored paper .
