Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone by first configuring your hardware, activa ting your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is necessar y to install both the ba tter y and SIM into their corresponding int ernal compartments.
6 Note: If the card is not inserted correctly , the phone does not detect the SIM card. Re-orient the card back into the slot. Installing the Mem or y Card Y our phone also supports the use of a memory card (microSD) for data storage of such th ings as data, music, pictures, and video files.
Getting Started 7 4. Slide the cover in the direction shown while pressing down until you hear a light click (2). Note: Make sure the battery is properly installed before s witching on the phone. Char ging a Battery Y our phone is powered by a rech argeable Li -ion batter y .
8 2. Plug the flat end o f the T ravel Adapter into the P ower/ Accessor y Interface connector an d the other end into a standard AC wall outlet . 3. When charging is finished, remove the flat end from the interface connector jack on the phone .

16 Section 3: Menu Naviga tion This section explains the men u na vi gation fo r your phone. It also includes an outline of all the a vailable menus associa ted with your phone. Some menu optio ns are controlled by the SIM provided by your servic e provider .
Menu Navigation 17 Using Shortcut Numbers Numbered me nu items, such as menus, sub-menus, and options can be quickly accessed by us ing their shortcut numbers. In Menu mode, Main Menus can be accessed by pressing the number keys (1 to 0, * and #) co rrespondin g to their loca tion on the screen.
18 Section 4: Entering T e xt This section outlines ho w to select the desi red text entry mode when entering characters usin g the Q WERTY keyboard-sty le keypad. This section also describes how to use the T9 predictive text entry system to reduce the numb er of key strokes needed to enter text.
Entering T ext 19 Changing the T ext Input Mode The available T ext Input modes are: Fn ( 123 numeric), Abc , and Symbols (Sym) . Refer to the T ext Input mode in the upper right corner of the screen t o identify the mode. • Abc : activates the default alphabet keys.

Call Functions 23 When you have an ac tive call and a call on hold , you may switch between the two calls, changi ng the one on hold to active and placing the other on hold. T o s witch between two ca lls: 䊳 Press Options ➔ Swap . T o end a specific call: 䊳 Press to end the current call.
24 If you are enga ged in a call, you can plac e the active call on hold by selecting the New Call option and either dialing another number or answering another in coming call. Once the second call is activa ted, the followi ng options are a vailable: • Swap : Places the active call o n hold and then re-activates the call on hold.

38 Langua ge This menu allows you to select a display language for T ext language and T ext Input mode. Cho ose from Automatic, English, Français, and Español. 1. In Idle mode, select Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Phone ➔ Language and press the key . 2. Highlight the Screen T ext field and press Change .
Changing Y our Settings 39 Slide Down Setting This setting allows you to choose what display s on the main screen when you slid e down your phone. 1. In Idle mode, select Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Phone ➔ Slide Down Setting and press the key.
40 Note: This SIM password is typically the last four digits of the current phone number . Y ou can obtain a SIM pass word from an A T&T customer service representative. Check PIN Code • When the Check PIN Code feature is enabled, you must enter your PIN each time you switch on the phone with the SIM Card.

Once your phone has been rese t to its defaul t set tings for those selected options, it will restart itself in order to incorporate the new settings. Note: User Data such as contacts, messages, pictures, videos, and music is not deleted.

52 Section 7: Understanding Y our Address Book This section allows you to manage your contac ts by storing their name and number in your Addr ess Book. Y ou ca n sort Address Book entries by na me, entry, or g roup. Y ou can also synchronize your phone Address Book with A T&T Address Book, the ne twork backup service.
