Getting Started 1 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your pho ne by first configuring your hardw are, activatin g your service, and t hen setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is ne cessary to install b oth the battery and SIM into their corresponding in ternal compartments.
2 Important! The plug-in SIM c ard information and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratching or bending, so be careful when handling, ins erting, or removing the card. Keep all SIM cards out of reach of small children. Carefully s lide the SIM ca rd into the SIM c ard socket (as shown) unt il the card lock s into place.
Getting Started 3 Note: Y our phone has been tested to support up to a 64GB memory card . Installing the Memor y Car d Push the microSD card into the slot until it clicks (as shown). • Make sure th e microSD’s gold c ontact pins face downw ard and the card is secur ely inserted .
4 2. Press along the e dge of the back cover (3) until you have a secure seal. Note: Make sure the battery is properly installe d before switching on the phone. Charging a Batter y Y our device is powered by a re chargeable Li-ion ba ttery . The Tr avel Charger that is used to ch arge the battery , is included with your device.
Getting Started 5 1. Plug the flat end of the T ravel Charger into the P ower/ Accessory Int erface connector an d the other end into a standard AC wall outlet. 2. When charging is finished, remove the f lat end from the interface connecto r jack on the phone.
6 Y ou can also choose to display a percentage value. Having a percentage value on-screen ca n provide a better idea of the remaining charge on th e battery . From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ My device ➔ Display ➔ Display battery percentage .
Getting Started 7 Configuring your Phone When you first turn on your phone, you will nee d to set up a few things. 1. The Welc om e! screen displays. T he default language for your phone is English. If you would like to select another language, tap English and scroll up or down to select one of the listed languag es.
8 Note: In order to utilize you r device to the fullest ex tent, you will need to create a Google™ Account when you first use your device. With a Google Account , you will have access to more Google application s and applica tions will always be in sync between your phon e and computer .
Getting Started 9 Creating a Samsung Account An active Samsung account is required to begin access ing applications such as ChatON and AllShare Play . If you did not create a Samsung ac count when you first set up your phone, follow these steps: 1. From the home s creen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Accounts ➔ Add account .

20 Downloads : The Downloads application allows you to manage all of your downloads f rom the Play Store a nd the Browser . For more information, refer to “Downloads” on page 165. Dropbox : Dropbox lets you sync hronize files between your phone, computers, and the Dropbo x website.

Navig ating Using Sub-Menus Sub-menus are available when you are at any Home sc reen or have selected a feature or applic ation such as Phone, Contacts, Messaging, or Internet.

32 Customizing the Multi Window apps The applications found within the ap ps panel of the Multi window can be organized by ei ther being rearranged or removed. T o rearrange the Multi window applications: 1. Activate the Multi window fe ature. 2. T ap the tab to d isplay the apps panel (containing the scrollable ap ps).

34 T o increase the size of a desired application window: 1. With the two application s shown in a split screen, locate the Border bar i ndicating the edge of th e app window . 2. In a single motion , touch and hold the Border bar then drag it to resize the desired window .

40 Notification Bar The Notification Bar includ es a pull-down list to show information about p rocesses that are running, recent notifications, and alerts. T o display the Status indicator: On the Home screen, touch and hold t he Notification Bar until the pull-down displays, then drag down vertically .

42 Mounting the SD Card T o store additional photos, music, video s, and other applications, you mus t mount (install) the SD card prior t o use. Mounting the SD c ard establishes a USB con nection with your computer . 1. Insert the SD card into the external, SD card slot.

At the incomin g call screen: • T ouch a nd drag in any direction to answer the call. • T ouch a nd drag in any direction to reject the call and send it t o your voicemail.

From the Dialer and t he Contacts screen, the following tabs are located at the top of your screen: • Keypad : dials the current number entered using the on -screen keypad.

50 Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, to adjust the earpiece volume, use the Vo l u m e keys on the left side of the phone. Press the Up volume key to incre ase the volume level and press t he Down volume key to decreas e the volume level.

88 Settings : • GPS tag : Attach a GPS l ocation tag to the photo. T o imp rove GPS signals, avoid shooting in locatio ns where the signal may be obstruc ted, such a s between buil dings or in low-lying areas, or in poor weathe r conditions. Y our location may appear on your photos when y ou upload them to the Int ernet.
