Understanding Y our Device 13 Home Screen The Home screen is the starting point for using your device. I t consists of: • Status bar : The Status Bar displays notifications on the left side and status indicators on the right side. Note : The Statu s Bar is normally hidden.
14 Additional Home Screens The Home screen consists of the a main Home screen and up to 6 additional screens. • Main Home Screen : One Home screen is designated as the main Home screen , and will display whenever you press the Home key . • Slide your finger horizontally acr oss the screen to scroll through the Home s creens.
Understanding Y our Device 15 T o resize a window: 1. T ouch and hold a Home Screen App until it “releases” from the page. A gold box appears ar ound the window. 2. Drag a side of the window to resize it. The other Home Screen Apps will autom atically adjust to accommodate the resized window .

Tilt T ouch and hold two points on the screen, and then tilt the device back and forth to zoom in or out. Accounts and Contac ts 33 Section 3: Accounts and Contacts This section explains how to ma nage accounts and contacts. Accounts Y our device can synchronize with a variety of accounts. With synchronization, in formation on your device is updated with any informa tion that changes in your accounts.
34 Y our Google Account In order to utilize your device to the fulles t extent, you will need to create a Google Account when you first use your device. With a Google Account, Google a pplications will always be in sync between your tablet and computer .

Messaging 41 Section 4: Messaging This section describes ho w to send and receive messages and other features as sociated with messaging. Types of Messages Y our device supports these types of messages: • Email • Gmail • Hangouts • Google+ • Tw i t t e r Note: Y our Wi-Fi-only device does NOT support voice calling and messaging ser vices.

Messaging 43 Email Settings Use email settings to configure your email pr eferences. Note: Available settings depend on the email provider . 1. T ouch Email . 2. T ouch Menu ➔ Settings , then touch General set tings . The following options display: •D i s p l a y : Set how email is shown in the email list and when you op en them.
44 Gmail Send and receive email with Gmail, Google’s web-based email service. From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Google folder ➔ Gmail . Setting Up Y our Gmail Account If you did not set up a Google Account during t he initial configuration, the first time yo u launch Gmail, your device prompts you to set up your Google Account.
Messaging 45 Hangouts Previously know n as Google T a lk, Hangouts is an online place to meet friends and family , share photos, and host video calls. Conversation logs are auto matically saved to a Chats area in your Gmail account. Fro m a Home screen , touch Apps ➔ Google folder ➔ Hangouts .
46 Section 5: Connections Y our device includes features to connect to the internet and to other dev ices by using Wi-F i, Bluetooth, or a USB cable. Wi - Fi Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technolog y that provides access to local area networks.
Connections 47 Scan and Connect to a Wi-Fi Netw or k When you turn on Wi-F i, yo ur device searches for and displays available W i-F i connecti ons. 1. From any screen, touch th e top of the screen and swipe downward. The Notification Panel displays. 2.
