5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone by fi rst configuring your hardware, activating your service, and then setting up your voice mail.
Getting Started 6 4. Place your thumbnail in the notch at the top (1) and lift it up and out (2) (as shown). 5. Carefully slide the SIM card into the SIM card socket until the car d locks into place . Make sure that the car d’ s gold contacts face into the phone and that the upper-left angled corner of the card is positioned as shown.
7 Replacing the Ba tter y 6. Slide the batte ry into the comp artment so that th e tabs on the end align with t he slots at the b ottom of the phone. Be sure to line up the gold contacts. 7. Lightly press do wn on the batter y until it snaps into pl ace.
Getting Started 8 Inst alling the Memor y Car d Y our phone supports an optional memory card (microSD™) for data storage of such things as music, pictures, video or other files. This type of me mory card is designed fo r use with this mobile phone and other devices.
9 Re moving the Mem or y Car d 1. T o unlock the memor y cover , use your thumb nail or anot her object to shift the edge of the memory card cover to the Unlock position (as i ndicated) until you hear a slig ht clicking sound. 2. Gently lift the edge of the memory card cover up.

Understanding Y our Phone 16 Wid ge t Bar The Widget bar provides quick access to the items you use most frequent ly (Web , Photos, Message inbox, IM, Tips, Search, My Acco unt, T eleNav Navigator , Voice recognition, Calendar , Bluetooth, T oday , and W eather).
17 Icons This list identifies the sy mbols you’ll see on your phone’ s display screen: Displays the received signal strength. The great er the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Displays when you are out of your service area. Displays the level of your ba ttery .
Understanding Y our Phone 18 Backligh t A backlight illumina tes the internal display an d the ke ypad. When you touch any key , the backlight turns on. Backlight turns off when no keys are pressed or touc hed within a giv en period of time, depending on the Backlight menu setting.
19 Display Y our phone has a display on the front of the phone which indicates when you have an incoming ca ll or message. It also alerts you at a specif ied time when an alarm was set by turning on the backlight and displaying a corresponding ic on on the scre en.
Call Functions 20 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to ma ke or answer a ca ll. It also explains the f eatures and funct ionality asso ciated with making or answering a call. For more informatio n, refer to “Call Settings” on page 159.
21 Re dialing the Last Number The phone stores t he numbers of the calls you’ve dia led, received, or missed if th e caller is id entified. T o recall any of t hese numbers: 3.
Call Functions 22 Note: Y ou can answer a call while using the Contacts List or menu features. After ending the call, the phone returns to the function screen you were previously using. Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of control functi ons that are a vailable for use during a ca ll.
23 Muti ng a Call During a call you ca n activate t he Mute feature. This feature is used, for exampl e, during a multiparty c all when you want to listen to the call but do not want to in terrupt with background nois e or talking. 1. T ouch t he Mute icon so the other caller cannot hear you spe aking.
Call Functions 24 More In-call Options During a call you can save the curre nt caller’ s information to the Phoneb ook, Send a me ssage, check your message inbox, amplify y our voice, view the Web, activate Automa tic screen lock, or create a memo. Swapping C a lls 䊳 T ouch th e Swap icon to place the current call on hold and then activate the prev ious call. Accessing the Contacts List During a Call Y ou can search for a number in Contacts during a call.
Call Functions 26 Missed calls This menu lets you view the 30 most recent calls you receiv ed, but did not answer . The name and number , if already stored in your Contacts List, displays.
27 Making a Multi-Par ty Call A multi-party call is a net work service that allows up t o six people to participate in a mul ti-party or conference call. For further details about subs cribing to this ser vice, contact T -Mobile customer service. Setting up a Multi-Par ty Call 1.
Call Functions 28 Putting a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current call on hold whenever you want. Y ou can also make anothe r call while you have a call i n progress if your netw ork supports this s ervice. T o place a call on hold: 䊳 T ouch th e Hold icon.
29 Call Waiting Y ou can answer an incoming call while yo u have a call in progress, if this se rvice is supported by the network and you must have previo usly set the Call waiting opt ion to Activ ate . For more in form a tion, refer to “Call Settings” on page 159.

31 Access ing a Menu Fu nction by Scroll ing As you navigate through a menu, options disp lay on the screen as scrollable lists. T o navigate a scrollable list: 1. From t he Idle screen, to uch the Menu icon. 2. T ouch a menu opt ion. 3. From t he list of opt ions you can: • Gently touch an entr y to activate it.
Menu Navigation 32 Menu List s Once you display a menu list, tapping an item cause s differen t functions, depending on which item you tapped. F or example, you can op en another list, add text to a message, send a messa ge, play a song, or view a photo.
33 In this menu, y ou can view the l ist of photos download ed from the web se rver , received in messages, or taken by the camera. 1. T ouch, drag and drop the Photos icon onto the desktop. T ap Vie w to view a photo, or tap Send to send this photo as a message.

37 This appl ication allo ws you to use Sho rt Message Service (SMS) in order to send short messages. For more informat ion, refer to “T ext Messages” on page 65. Y ou can also use the Mult i Media Service (MMS) to create mu ltimedia messages to send and receive from other mobile phones.

43 Section 5: Entering T e xt This section outlines how to select the desired text input mode wh en entering characters into your phone. This section also describes how to use the T9 predictive tex t entry system to reduce the number of ke y strokes asso ciated with entering text.
Entering T ext 44 Example: Writing a text message. 䊳 T o change the text input mode, touch the screen, then T ouch T9Abc and select one of the following options: • Abc • ABC • abc • Numeric • Symbols – or – T ouch Shift to toggle T9 mode from T9Abc to T9ABC, or T9abc.
45 Using T9 Mode T9 is a predictive text inpu t mode that allows you to key in any charac ter using sing le keystr okes. This text input mode is based o n a built-in d ictionary . T o enter a word in T9 mode: 1. When you are in T9 mode, start entering a word by touching the 2 to 9 keys.
Entering T ext 46 • T o enter periods, hyphens, and oth er special characters, touch Symbols and then touch the corresponding ke y . If the symbol does not display on the initia l screen, touch the left << or right >> key to display the next se t of symbols.
47 Ke ys By default, the first lett er of an entry is ca pitalized a nd all consecutive letters are kept in lowercase (unl ess you touch the Shift key). After e ntering a character , the curs or automatically advances to the next spa ce after two seconds or when you enter a character on a different key .

Y ou can save phone numbe rs to your phone’ s memory or to your SIM card. Using Mobile Address Book Use the following procedures to st ore a new contact to your phone.

Understanding Y our Phonebook 50 Storing a Number on the SIM Card The default st orage location for saving phone numbers to your Phonebook is yo ur phone’ s built-in memory. T o save a number to your SIM card, you need to change the Save new contacts option first.
51 4. When you locate th e entr y , press the key to dial the num ber or touch : •E d i t : allows you to change or add information for the cont act. • Delete : allows you to delete the selected name and numbe r from your Phonebook or del ete multip le numbers.

55 My Profi le My Profile allows you to create a vi rtual business card. Once completed, you can send the c ard to recipients as a V -card attach ment . Note: As with any profile, your profile can be associated with a group. T o create a profi le: 1. In Idle mo de, touch Ph.

61 Memor y Status Y ou can check how many names and num bers are stored in the Phonebook, within the SIM card, Phone memory , and the FDN list . Y ou can also see the current storage c apacity of all three m emories. 1. In Idle mo de, touch Ph. Book .

63 New Message s T a b The New Messages T ab is an area that displays on th e screen when a missed call, new m essage, or voicema il is sent to the phone.
Messages 64 Audio P ostcar d In this menu you can sele ct a frame, take a picture an d then record a voice messag e up to one minute long and send it as an Audio Postcar d. 1. In Idle mode, touch Menu ➔ Audio postcard . The scr een displ ays a defau lt postca rd in Landscape mode.
65 4. Adjust the image by aiming the camera at the subject. 5. Press the Camera key to take a picture . 6. T ouch Record voice to add a voice messa ge to the postcard.

In Idle mode, touch Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Create message . 2. T ap the screen to disp lay the ke yboard and create your message.
67 3. When you finish entering you r message, touch Done . 4. T ouch Other and select f rom the foll owing: • T ext template : allows you to select a T ext T emp late to attach to this message. • Insert from ph.book : allows you to select a contact prof ile from the Phonebook.
Messages 68 3. T ouch the Pe n tool, then use your fingerti p or a stylus to handwrite your message. Note: As you write the keypad translates your handwriting into text. 4. Use the key to correct any characters, then touch th e keypad icon and enter the correct letters or words using the keyboard.
69 10. T ouch Send when you are finished en tering th e destinations. T ext mess age settings In this menu, you can set up a default text message. The last setting you acce ssed is automat ically activa ted for sending subsequent messages. 䊳 In Idle mode , touch Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Message settings ➔ T ext message .

73 • Recent recipients : allows you to select a numb er or an addr ess from the last 20 destinatio ns you entered. • Phonebook : allows y ou to enter the phone number you want f rom your Cont acts List. • Online Album : allows you to sen d the voice note messa ge to an Onli ne Album.
Messages 74 Inbo x The Inbox stores received messages. Y ou can tell what kind of message it is by the i con displayed. If the icon envelope is open , then the message was read; otherwi se the icon envelope displays as closed.
75 •M o r e : – Move to my folder : moves the select ed message to a personal folder . At the create folder prompt, touch OK . Enter a name for the new folder , and t ouch Done .

Messages 78 E-mail E-mail enables you to review and crea te e-mail using AIM ® , AOL ® , Y ahoo! ® Mail, Comcast, Compuser ve, Earthlink, Gmail, HotPOP , Juno, Mac, Ne tZero, SBC Y ahoo! , Verizon and severa l other email servic es. Y ou can also receive text messa ge alerts when you recei ve an important e-mail.
79 Using the Instant M essenger Options Use the following procedure to a ccess the Instant Messenger options. 1. In Idle mo de, touch Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ IM . The IM communi ties screen disp lays. 2. T ouch t he messenge r ser vice to wh ich you have prev iously subscribed.
Messages 80 •M o v e : moves the sel ected message to a personal fol der . At the crea te folder p rompt, touch OK . Enter a name for th e new folder and touch Done . Or , if a folder already ex ists, touc h Move . •D e l e t e : allows you to delete a sel ected message fr om the Sentbox.
81 – Edit style : allows you to m odify the Background color , Font colo r , Font style, or Page d uration for this message. Note: this option automatically changes the format of the mes sa ge to Picture mess age.
Messages 82 – Sending options : allows you to configu re the sending options such as : Priority, Exp i ration, Delivery time, Delivery report, Request read report, or Keep a copy . If the selected mes sage is a text message, these options include: Reply path and Delivery report.
83 4. At the Delete ? confirmation, to uch Ye s to delete the templa te or touch No to cancel. Creating a Pictur e message template 1. In Idle mo de, touch Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Te m p l a t e s . 2. T ouch Picture message templates . 3. T ouch Create .
Messages 84 11. At the Enter new subject pop-up, enter a subject for this template and touch OK . The picture message templa te automatica lly saves. Previewing a Picture messa ge template Prior to saving a Picture Message template you can prev iew the t emplate and then mo dify it by adding images, sound, video, or other files.
85 • Bookmarks : allows you to select a URL to attach to this message. 9. T ouch Preview . The template displays the following options: •E d i t : redispla ys the Creat e screen so you ca n add Images, Soun d, Video, or Other file s.
Messages 86 10. T ouch the Page duration drop-down menu and select a page duration. ( Note : This option i s available only if you selected “ This page ” in the Select page field.) If you select Custom Tim e , enter the time, in seconds that you want the page to display to the recipient, then touch Change .
87 V oice Mail This menu helps you access yo ur voice m ailbox, if pr ovided by your network. 1. In Idle mo de, touch Phone . 2. T ouch and hold the key to connect to voice mail. 3. Follow the voice mail prompts. Note: Voice mail is a network feature.

89 Section 8: Applications This section outlines the va rious applica tions that are available o n your phone. Files The Files menu allows you to mana ge your images, videos, sounds, othe r files, and memo ry status in one convenient loca tion. 1. In Idle mo de, touch Menu ➔ Applications .
Applications 90 1. In Idle mode, touch the Menu ➔ Applications ➔ Fi les ➔ Images ➔ My Album . The web browser launc hes and the T -Mobile Web page displays. 2. T ouch the My Albums link. Photos sent to this folder a re stored in the Inbox Album .

While viewing th e photo, choose from the follo wing options: • Send via : allows y ou to send the selected phot o as a Message, A udio postcard, or to a Bluetoo th enabled dev ice. •S e t a s : allows you to set the p hoto as your Wallpaper , Picture ID, or myFaves icon ( if myFaves i s enabled).
Applications 92 Videos In this menu, you c an view a list of videos downloaded from the web server , received in mul timedia messages, or recorded via t he phone. 1. In Idle mode, touch Menu ➔ Applic ations ➔ Files ➔ V ideos ➔ Vid eo s . 2. T ouch one of the follo wing options: • Record video : allows you to begin reco rding a video.
93 Browse MegaT one s Using the Browse MegaT on es option on the sounds list, you can access the web site preset by T-Mobile and download new MegaT ones. Music & Sounds This option uses the web browser to naviga te to the T -Mobile Music and Sounds folder .
Applications 94 Sounds 1. T ouch an item i n the Sounds menu and to uch one of the f ollowing options: •C r e a t e f o l d e r : allows you to cre a te a folder in which to store sound files. • Manage : allows you to m ove or copy the selected sound file to an other folder or location.
95 – Sort by : allows you to sort the voice notes by Date, T ype, Name, or Size. – Send via Bluetooth : allows you to se nd the selected voice note to a Bluetooth enabled device. – Bluetooth visi bility : allows you to enable this v oice note so it is visible to othe r Bluetooth devices.
Applications 96 – or – 2. T ouch one of the follo wing options: •D e l e t e : allows you to delete one or more games from the list. •M o r e : – Lock/Unlock : allows you to prevent or allow deletion of th e selected game, or unlock it to allow deletion.
97 7. T ouch Alarm sound . 8. T ouch t he Alarm type drop-down menu and select one of the fo llowing alarm types: •M e l o d y : the ph one rings using the ring melo dy select ed in the Ri ng tone me nu. • Increasing melody : the me lody vol ume incr eases.
Applications 98 Say a Comm and Options • Call <Name o r #> : dials a name or number listed in yo ur contact list . If multiple n umbers exist (i.e. home, work , or other) say the name and the number type (location). • Send T ext <N ame or #> : displays the Create T ext Message screen.
99 Contacts List Voice Activa tio n On startup, Nuance reads your Contacts list and voice-activates all the names. When you have add or c hange contacts, N uance automatically reloads an d voice-activate s the list when you add or modify a contact. Name Dialing T o use Name Dial, y ou need entries st ored in your Phonebo ok.
Applications 100 Name Lookup T o perform a name lookup, you’ll need t o have some entrie s in your Contact list. T o access Voice recognition: 1. In Idle mode, touch Menu ➔ Applications ➔ Voice recognition . After a brief pause, a list of available comm ands displays on the screen along with the “ Say a command ” message.
