USING YOUR DIGITAL DISK CAMERA SAFELY AND CORRECTLY SAFETY PRECAUTIO NS The following safety precautions are to ensure the saf e and correct use of your digital di sk camera and prevent injury t o the user and others, and property dam age. Be sure to read caref ully all the precautions listed here before using your digital disk camera.
■ Cautions concerning the locations of use and storag e ■ Only recharge using the supplied NC-LSC04WSA AC adapter/charger œ If recharged using a different charger, an excessi ve charging condition or abnormal electrical currents may result and cause a chemical reaction within the battery pack.
WARNING ■ If charging is not completed even after the specif ied time elapses, stop the charging immediately œ If charging is continued, it may cause a fire, rupturing of the battery pack, eruption or leakage of electrolyte, or overheating.
DIGITAL DISK CAMERA AND AC ADAPTER/ CHARGER WARNING ■ Do not use the digital disk camera or AC adapter/charg er if it makes a strange noise, emits a strange odor, or if smoke comes out from it œ If the digital disk camera or A C adapter/charger is used under these conditions, it m ay cause a fire or electric shock.
■ Do not get the devices wet œ This digital disk camera and AC adapter/charger are not wat er-resistant. Do not allow them to get wet for doi ng so may cause a fire or electric shock.
■ Do not use the flash close to a person ’ s face œ To prevent possible eye injury, do not use t he flash near a person ’ s face (especially young children or babies). If the flash is used close to a person ’ s opened eyes, there is a risk that it may damage that person ’ s eyesi ght.
■ Do not damage the power cord or DC co rd of the AC adapter/charger œ Do not place heavy objects on the cords. Do not place t he cords near a heat source.

■ Cautions concerning condensation œ Using the digital disk camera wi th condensation inside it may damage the di gital disk camera. Be careful of condensation un der the foll owin g condi tions œ When moving the digital di sk camera suddenly from a cold pl ace to a warm place.
■ Cautions c oncern ing magnetism œ Do not place credit cards, bankcards, floppy disks, or other items that may be damaged by magnetic fields near the speaker.
Caut ions when car ry ing or st orin g the iD PHOT O disk œ Always remove t he iD PH OTO disk from the digital disk camera af ter you have finished using it.

POWER SUPPLY Use only the UR-121 battery pack with your digital disk camera. To operate the digital di sk camera using a power outlet, use the supplied AC adapt er/charger.
Charging the battery pack The battery pack is not charged at the t ime of purchase and t herefore needs to be charged before use. Always use the supplied AC adapter/charger to recharge the battery pack.
5 When the BAT TERY CHARGE lamp turn s off, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. 6 Remove the battery pack from the AC adapter/charg er. œ If you are not going to at tach the battery pack to the digital disk camera right away, then place it i n its protective cover.
The BATTERY CHARGE an d AC ADAPTER lamps The BATTERY CHA RGE and AC ADAPTER lamps allow you to check t he condition of t he battery pack and AC adapt er/charger. If either of the lamps begins flashing, it indicates a problem. Refer to the table below to check and remedy the problem.
Installing the battery pack 1 Open the b attery pack cover. 1 Press and hold down the BATT knob on the digital disk camera bottom. 2 Pull the battery pack cover toward the front of the digital disk camera and then lift it up. 2 Attach the ch arged battery p ack to the b attery pack mating area.
Removing the battery pack Caution œ Before removing the battery pack, be sure to turn of f the digital disk cam era. Removing the battery pack while the power i s still on may damage t he digital disk camera or data on the disk. 1 If the digital d isk camera is tur ned on, turn i t off (see page 35).
Using the AC power supp ly Use the supplied AC adapter/charger to operate the digital di sk camera with an AC power supply (by connecting to a power outlet). Caution œ The AC adapter/charger is for exclusive use with this digital disk camera (IDC-1000ZEX, IDC-1000ZE, IDC-1000ZU).
INSERTING AND EJECTING THE DISK Be sure to insert t he disk before using t he digital disk camera. Use only iD PHOTO disks with the iD PHOTO logo mark ( _ ). No other type of disk can be used with this digital disk camera (IDC-1000ZEX, IDC-1000ZE , IDC-1000ZU).
Ejecting the disk Caution Be careful no t to let the d isk fall œ Depending on how you are holding the digital di sk camera, when the di sk is ejected, it may fall out of the digital di sk camera and become damaged. When ejecting the disk, be careful not to let the disk fa ll from the disk holder.
TURNIN G THE POWER ON AND OFF Turning on the digital d isk camera Prep arat ion œ Prepare the power supply (see pages 27, 29). 1 Insert the d isk (see page 30). œ The digital disk cam era cannot be turned on if a di sk is not inserted. 2 Press th e power bu tton for more than one second .
NOTE Changi ng the m oni tor œ The image composed by the digital disk camera can be displayed in either the viewfinder or the LCD monitor. For the sake of brevity, t he term “ monitor ” is often used alone i n this manual to refer to either one.
What to do if “ NO FI LE ” appears Whe n “ N O FILE ” appears it indicates that no files for the curr ent playback mode can be fo und. If “ DISK : EMPTY ” appears, then there are no files stored on the disk. Swi tching the CAMERA/PLAY switch to “ CAMERA ” bri ngs up the shooting screen.
Turning off th e digital disk camera 1 Press th e power bu tton for more than one second . œ The digital disk camera does not turn off right away to prevent it from being turned of f accidentally. œ When the power is turned off, the displays on the mode display panel and LCD m onitor (or viewfinder) tur n off.
SETTING UP AND USING THE REMOTE CONTROL Setting up th e remote con trol A battery is installed in t he remote control at the time of purchase. 1 Pull out the battery insulation sheet. œ Once the battery insulati on sheet is removed, the remote control is ready f or use.
Replac ing the remo te control ba ttery The life of the l ithium battery will depend on your use of the remote control, but as a general guideline, it will requi re replacement approximately once a year. At that time replace it only with the commercially available CR2025 lithium battery.
Changi ng the remote c ontrol c ode This remote control will also work with other Sanyo cameras that can be operat ed by infrared remote control. Therefore, when more than one camera i s present, it is recommended to change the remote control code t o ensure that onl y the intended camera operates when the remote control is used.
CHECKING THE BATTERY PACK AND DISK You can check the remaining charge in the batt ery pack and the remaining space on t he disk with the LCD monitor, viewfinder, or mode display panel. Be sure to always check these values before using the di gital disk camera to prevent problems.

SETTING THE DATE AND TIME Your digital disk cam era is equipped with a cl ock function that will record the date and time that any image, video clip, or audio recording is made so that it can be displayed duri ng playback. An internal battery backs up the clock set ting so that it is retained even when the bat tery pack is removed.

BASIC SHOOTING AND PLAYB ACK OPERA TIONS Setting the mod e Your digital di sk camera is equipped with a number of modes. The shooting mode and the playback mode are two of them and they bot h have still image, sequent ial shot, and vi deo clip modes.

Attaching the grip b elt and should er belt Before using your digital disk camera, be sure to attach the grip belt. The shoulder belt is useful for carrying the digital disk camera over your shoulder or hangi ng it from your neck.
Proper use of your digital disk camera In order to capture the image you are aiming at properl y, it is very im portant that you are holding the digital disk camera correctly with the correct posture.

PLAYING BACK FILES ON A TELEVISION SET The images, video clips, and audio recording saved on t he disk in the di gital disk camera can also be played back on a television set f or viewing and listening. (When connect ed to a tel evision set, the speaker of the digital disk cam era is muted.
USING THE VA RIOU S SHOOTIN G FUNCTION S Using the macro focus settin g Use the macro focus set ting when capturing i mages at close range (3 to 60 cm). Prepar ation œ Set t he CAMERA/PLAY switch to “ CAMERA. ” œ Turn the mode selector dial to & , r , or 7 to select the desired shooting mode.
4 Press the S ET butto n. œ This completes the focus mode set ting. œ The focus mode setting i s retained even if the mode selector dial is turned, t he CAMERA/PLAY switch is changed, or the digital di sk camera is turned off (see page 112). œ The focus mode setting i ndicator appears in the right side of the monitor.
Usin g the zoom Use the zoom functions f or enlarging subjects when composing images. Your digital disk cam era offers two methods of zooming: optical zoom using the zoom lens and electronic zoom using the digital zoom function. Using the optical zoom The optical zoom al lows you to enlarge up to 3x magnification.
Using the digital zo om The digital zoom allows you t o enlarge the subject to be captured el ectronically. This is useful when you want to enl arge a subject more than that all owed by the optical zoom alone.
Using the flash The flash is not only used to capture images i n the dark, but also to capture i mages of subject that are in shadows or lit from behind. Your digi tal disk camera has four flash m odes: automatic flash mode, red-eye reduction flash mode, forced flash mode, and flash off mode.
4 Press c on the arro w button to select the d esired flash mode icon from th e flash menu. 0 (automatic flash): The digital disk camera will det ect the subject bri ghtness and use the flash when required. 1 (red-eye reduction flash): This flash mode reduces the amount that people ’ s eye turn red when subjected to a camera flash.
Recording a voice memo In the still image shoot ing mode, you can record up t o 10 seconds of audio when capturing an image. This sound f ile is called a voi ce memo. You can also add a voice memo to an image captured earlier (see “ A dding a voice memo ” on page 127).
4 Press the S ET butto n. œ This completes the voice memo setting. œ The voice memo setting indicator appears in the right side of the monitor. œ The voice memo setting ret urns to voice memo off if the mode selector dial i s turned, the CAMERA/P LAY switch is changed, or the digital disk camera i s turned off.
Using the self-timer The self-timer function allows you t o have the digital disk camera wai t 10 seconds after the shutter release button is pressed until it captures the image or st arts recording. You can also change the amount of time the digital di sk camera will wait from anywhere between 0 seconds to 9 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds.
5 Press d or c on the arro w button to highlight in orange the nu mbers to change. œ This is the t ime for the self-timer, or the t ime the digital disk camera waits until capturing images or starting recording after the shut ter release button is pressed (hrs:min:sec).
Capturing a AE-shifted sequ ential shot The AE shift sequential shot capt ures seven sequential images while automatically changing the exposure from under exposure (for a dark image) t o over exposure (for a light image). Prepar ation œ Set t he CAMERA/PLAY switch to “CAM ERA.

Setting the image quality The resolution and compression ratio set tings determine the i mage quality. Set these set tings according to the image quality you desire.
Setting the compression ratio Use the procedure given below to set the compression ratio. Even if t he same resolution is used, you can change the compression ratio setting and increase the compression amount to capture more images by decreasing t he image data size, or decrease t he compression amount for no loss in image quality.
Setting the frame rate Follow the procedure below to set the frame rate at which vi deo clips are recorded. The f rame rate tells you how m any frames are recorded each second. T he greater the frame rate, the smoother the motion in the video clip, but also the larger t he size of t he video clip file.
Setting the exposure correction Prepar ation œ Set t he CAMERA/PLAY switch to “ CAMERA. ” œ Turn the mode selector dial to & , r , or 7 to select the desired shooting mode. 1 Turn the con trol dial. œ The Exposure Correction Screen appears.
MANUAL MODE SETTINGS About the manu al mode setting s Your digital di sk camera is equipped with a manual mode and automatic mode. The manual mode settings (see pages 90 to 97) are stored even after the digital disk camera is turned of f so it is unnecessary for you t o set the manual mode settings each t ime you switch to the manual mode.
Switching between the automatic an d manual modes Follow the procedure below to change between the automatic and manual modes. Prepar ation œ Set t he CAMERA/PLAY switch to “ CAMERA. ” œ Turn the mode selector dial to & , r , or 7 to select the desired shooting mode.
Setting the focu s In addition to autofocus, your digital di sk camera also allows you to set the focus manually or fix the focus to a preset distance. Setting to manu al focus Prepar ation œ Set t he CAMERA/PLAY switch to “ CAMERA. ” œ Turn the mode selector dial to & , r , or 7 to select the desired shooting mode.
Setting to fixed focus Prepar ation œ Set t he CAMERA/PLAY switch to “ CAMERA. ” œ Turn the mode selector dial to & , r , or 7 to select the desired shooting mode. The setting allows you to fix the f ocus setting. This is usef ul when you know t he distance of the subject beforehand.
Setting the exposure con trol Your digital disk cam era allows you to set a number of different exposure controls (shutter speeds and aperture sett ings). By becoming familiar with these settings, you can creat e a wide variety of expressions in your images.
SPOT SPL: Spot s ample AE œ The exposure is set based on the light measured at the middle of the monitor. Shooting is performed with the exposure set to a portion of the subject. Example: For setting the exposure to a person ’ s face whi le there is a sunset in t he background.
■ When selecting “ S.SP EED ” and pressing the RETURN button œ Sets the AE with shutter speed priority. œ The Shutter Speed Setting Screen appears. œ Turn the control dial t o select the desired shutter speed and press the RETURN but ton. œ The shutter speeds that can be selected wi ll differ depending on the current shoot ing mode.
HINT To capture images of peop le with night scenery in the background œ By using the flash and a slow shutter speed together, the f oreground subject and background night scenery will both be captured well.
Setting the wh ite balance Prepar ation œ Set t he CAMERA/PLAY switch to “ CAMERA. ” œ Turn the mode selector dial to & , r , or 7 to select the desired shooting mode. 1 Press the W .BAL button. œ The indicator * appears. If you are goi ng to set a setting other than white balance lock, proceed to step 2 .
SAMPLING WB: Samp ling white b alance œ For setting the white balance m ore accurately. Used for when the l ight source cannot be specified. œ When sampling white balance is set, the indicator = appears. FINE SKY: Fine sky white balance œ Sets the white balance to a value proper for when the light source is a sunny day.
INTERVAL SHOOTING Interval shooting is a special shooting feature where the digital disk camera capt ures images in set intervals. There are t wo types of interval shooting: still image i nterval shoo.
4 Press the S ET butto n. œ The Still Image Interval Shooting Setting Screen appears. 5 Set the interval shooting parameters. œ Set the interval bet ween images at “ INT ” and the number of images to be captured at “ FRAME.
7 Press the sh utter release button. œ The still image interval shooting begins and the first image is captured. œ The monitor turns off. To turn the monitor back on, press the power button. To turn i t back off, press the power button again. œ When the time set i n step 5 elapses, t he next image is captured.
Video clip interval shootin g Video clip interval shooting is a special shooting technique that allows you to creat e a video clip by capturing the images for each frame separately and in set intervals. The audio is not recorded during the interval shooting, so the completed video clip will have no sound.
4 Press the S ET butto n. œ The Video Clip Interval Shooting Setting Screen appears. 5 Set the interval shooting parameters. œ Set the interval bet ween images at “ INT. ” and the length of the f inal video clip at “ DUR. ” œ The number of frames will change according to t he video clip length and the frame rate setting.

Paus ing or ending video cl ip inter val sho oting 1 Press the power button to turn on the monitor and press the MODE button. œ The Video Cl ip Interval Shooting Completion Screen appears. When t his screen appears, the timer stops and the interval shooting is paused.
Erasing the temporary data from video clip interval shooting During video clip interval shoot ing, the images captured are stored in your digital disk camera as temporary data. After t his data is used t o create the video cl ip, it will be necessary to erase this data.
ANIMATION SHOOTING Animation shooting is a special shooting t echnique that allows you to create a video clip by capturing the images for each frame separately with the shutter release but ton. This allows you to capture the images when you want based on t he movement of t he subject or the changes that you make to the subj ect.
4 Press the S ET butto n. œ The Animation Shooting Ready Screen appears. œ To stop animation shooting, press the MODE button. 5 Press the sh utter release button.
HELP If “ ERROR ” appears at step 4 œ This error message tells you that the temporary data for an animation shooting or video clip interval shooting (see page 101) already exists in the digital disk camera. Either save the temporary data or erase it (see 2 and 3 of step 7 on page 110).

Erasing the temporary data from animatio n shoo ting During animation shooting, the i mages captured are stored i n your digital disk cam era as temporary data. After t his data is used t o create the video cl ip, it will be necessary to erase this data.
CUSTOM SETTING You can customize t he settings of your digital disk camera such as the manual mode settings, exposure metering method, I SO sensitivity, folder settings, shut ter sounds, and rem ote control to make your digital disk cam era work as you like.
Setting the exposure meterin g Your digital disk cam era is capable of two ty pes of exposure metering: by dividing up the screen and calculating the total am ount of light by adding up each division (matrix metering) or by measuring the amount of l ight in the central portion of the screen only (center-weighted metering).
Setting the ISO sensitivity The initial settings for your digital disk camera have the digi tal disk camera set the ISO sensitivity automatically according to the bri ghtness of the subject . However, you can fix the ISO sensitivity to ISO 100, 200, or 400 equivalency.
Dealing with the fo lder settings The initial settings for your digital disk camera have all files (i .e. images, video clips, and audio recordings) stored in the f older number 100 (see page 148).
4 Select “ YES ” and press the SET bu tton. œ The new folder will be assigned a number sequentially starting with 101 (i.e. 100 Ö 101 Ö 102 ... 999).

Changing the shutter sound Follow the procedure below to record a new shutt er sound using the microphone of the digital disk camera and set that recording as the shutter sound. Prepar ation œ Turn the mode selector dial to ê to display the Option Screen.

ADDING A VOICE M EMO TO AN IMAG E Adding a voice memo You can add a voice memo to a stil l image captured in the still image mode, an image saved af ter magnifying, a compound image, or a copied image. Prepar ation œ Set t he CAMERA/PLAY switch to “ PLAY.

NOTE œ Voice memos can also be recorded when the image is capt ured (see page 78). œ After a voice memo has been added to an image, you can erase only the voice memo (see page 151). Also, when an image with a voice memo is erased, the attached voice memo is also erased.
ADDING AN IM AGE TO A NOTHER IMAGE Adding an imag e (compound image functio n) You can insert an image in to a frame set in a still image capt ured in the still image mode, an image saved after magnifying, or a copied image, and create a compound image consisting of an image within an image.
Check the focus setting before creating the co mpound image If the subject that you will shoot for the compound image is close (from 3 to 60 cm away), put the digital disk camera in t he still image shooting mode and set the f ocus to either the macro focus mode or the total range f ocus mode (see page 72).
Set the size of the image to be added 5 Use the arrow button to set the first point. œ Use j and l to move t he horizontal guideline vert ically . œ Use d and c to move t he vertical guideline horizontally. œ Press and hold an arrow t o move the gui delines continuously in that direction and release the arrow to stop the guideline.
Set the position of the image to added 8 Use the arrow button to set the position of the frame where the image is to be inserted. œ Use the arrow button to move t he frame to the position where you want the i mage to be inserted. œ To change the frame si ze, press the MODE button t o return to step 5 and reset the f irst point.
ENLARGING (ZOOMING IN) THE IMAGE Captured images can be enlarged f or viewing during playback and the enlarged image can be saved as a still image. 1 Display the image that you want to enlarg e. œ See “ Playing back still images ” on page 52, “ Pl aying back sequential shots ” on page 57, or “ Playing back video clips ” on page 63.
NOTE œ As the image is enlarged, the quality will becom e rougher. œ One frame of a vi deo clip can be enlarged; however, a video clip cannot be played back whi le enlarged.

Erasing data With your digital di sk camera, if you ever make a mistake when capturing an image, fil ming a video clip, or recording an audio recording, or if i t does not t urn out as you want , or if you simply no longer need it, you can erase it. There are three methods of erasi ng data.
For erasing still images (including those with voice memos attached) FOLDER ERASE: Erases the current f older and all of its contents. All sti ll images, sequential shots, video clips, and audio recordings inside t he folder will be erased. GROUP ERASE: Erases all the sti ll images inside t he current folder.
œ If you selected “ FOLDER ERASE, ” t he Folder Erase All Confirmation Screen appears showing you whether or not the folder contains still image (including sequential shots), video clips, and audio recordings. O : There are files present – : There are no f iles present œ To erase these files, select “ ERASE ” and press the SET button.
Protecting files from being erased Your digital disk cam era allows you to protect important files that you do not want to erase or do not want to have erased by mistake. Prepar ation œ Set t he CAMERA/PLAY switch to “ PLAY. ” œ Turn the mode selector dial to the playback m ode of the type of file to be protected.
Copying or movin g files Your digital disk cam era allows you to move files from one folder to another folder or make another copy of a file into the same f older. Prepar ation œ Set t he CAMERA/PLAY switch to “ PLAY. ” œ Turn the mode selector dial to the playback m ode of the type of file to be copied or moved.
5 Press the S ET butto n. œ If you selected “ COPY † PHOT O-G, ” the displayed image is copied and saved as a still image. œ If you selected “ MOVE, ” the Destination Folder Selection Screen appears. Proceed to step 6 and select the destination folder for the move.
FORMATTING THE DISK About the iD PHOTO disk The iD PHOTO disk that is inserted into your digital di sk camera is a magneto-opti c cartridge with a storage capacity of 730 megabytes. Be sure to insert the iD PHOTO disk into the digital disk camera before using the di gital disk camera.
1 Press j on the arro w button to select “ YES. ” œ There are two types of format screens. Both are shown to the right. œ If the Quick Format Screen with the quick format icon t appears, select “ NO ” and press the SET button to display a screen that allows you to select the full format process.
Reformatting a disk When a disk is used for the first time, “ REFORMAT? ” appears (see page 156) and you automatically start the formatting process. However, dependi ng on the condition of the disk, this message may not appear. T o format the disk in such a case, follow the procedure given below.

Connecting to your computer Your digital disk camera i s equipped with a USB terminal and an IEEE1394 terminal for connecting the digital disk cam era to a computer.
Connecting to the IEEE1394 terminal œ By connecting t o a computer using t he IEEE1394 terminal, you can use the iD PHOT O disk drive of the digital disk camera as an external drive of your computer. Then you can handle the data st ored in the disk f rom your computer.
