CONTROLS AND INSTR UMENT 4.1 IDENTIFICA TION Bef ore operating the mower , familiarize yourself with all mow er and engine controls.

14 R Section 4 ST ARTING THE ENGINE 4.4 CA UTION DO NO T USE ST ARTING FLUIDS. Use of starting fluids in the air intake system ma y be potentially explosive or cause a “runawa y” engine condition that could result in engine damage and/or personal injury .
15 R Section 4 REVERSE TRA VEL CA UTION Disengage power to the mower before backing up. Do not mow in rever se unless absolutely necessary and then only after observation of the entire area behind the mower . CA UTION Before backing up, observe the rear f or persons and obstructions.
16 R Section 4 HILLSIDE OPERA TION 4.7 W ARNING DO NO T operate on steep slopes. T o chec k a slope, attempt to bac k up it (with the cutter dec k down). If the machine can bac k up the slope without the wheels slipping, reduce speed and use extreme caution.
17 R Section 4 MO VING MO WER WITH ENGINE 4.11 ST OPPED T o “free-wheel” or move the mower around without the engine r unning, rotate the dump valv e le vers counter- clockwise . See Figure 4-4. Disengage the par king brak e and mov e the mower b y hand.

The parking br ake linkage should be adjusted whene v er the parking brake lev er is placed in the “ENGA GE” position and the parking brak e will allo w the mo wer to mov e.
23 R Section 6 NEUTRAL ADJUSTMENT Be sure the dump v alve le v ers are in the run position 1. and the steering control lev ers are in the neutral loc k position. With an operator in the seat, star t the engine and 2. disengage the parking brake . Run the engine at full operating speed and chec k if 3.
24 R Section 6 A. Stop the machine and place the steer ing control le vers in the neutral position. Loosen the lock nuts securing the ball joints at each end of the RH steer ing control rod. Rotate the control rod to lengthen the rod and tighten the loc k nuts .
25 R Section 6 CUTTER DECK PITCH The pitch of the cutter deck should be equal between the front and rear of the cutter deck for proper cutting perf or mance . T o check for proper deck pitch, be sure that the mo wer is on a flat, le v el surface and the tires are properly inflated.

27 R Section 6 ELECTRIC CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT 6.8 The electr ic clutch serves two functions in the operation of the mo wer . In addition to star ting and stopping the pow er flow to the cutter b lades, the clutch also acts as a brak e to assist in stopping b lade rotation when the PTO is s witched off or the operator presence circuit is interrupted.

CHECKING ENGINE CRANKCASE OIL LEVEL The engine oil le vel should be chec k ed after e very 8 hours of operation or daily as instructed in the Engine Operator’ s Manual furnished with this mower . B. CHANGING ENGINE CRANKCASE OIL After the first 20 hours of operation, change the engine crankcase oil and replace the oil filter .
