CAUTION: When placing battery pack in your drill, be sure raised rib on battery pack aligns with gr oove inside drill and latches snap into place properly .

This tool has the feature of being r eversible. The dir ection of rotation is contr olled by a selector located above the switch trigger .
14 Fig. 7 INST ALLING BITS See Figure 7. n Lock the switch trigger by placing the direction of rotation selector in center position. See Figure 5 . n Open or close chuck jaws to a point where the open- ing is slightly lar ger than the bit size you intend to use.

16 CHUCK REMOV AL See Figures 13, 14, and 15. n Lock the switch trigger by placing the direction of r ota- tion selector in center position. See Figure 5. n Insert a 5/16 in. or lar ger hex key into the chuck of your drill and tighten the chuck jaws securely .
17 BA TTERIES The battery pack for your drill-driver is equipped with nickel-cadmium rechar geable batteries. Length of service from each char ging will depend on the type of work you are doing. The batteries in this tool have been designed to provide maximum trouble fr ee life.

14 OPERA TION CHARGING A HOT BA TTER Y P ACK When using the tool continuously , the batteries in the battery pack will become hot. Y ou should let a hot bat- tery pack cool down for approximately 30 minutes befor e attempting to rechar ge.
15 0 1 5 2 2 . 5 3 0 4 5 5 0 OPERA TION INCORRECT SUPPORT KICKBACK See Figures 8 - 11. Kickback occurs when the blade stalls rapidly and the saw is driven back towar ds you. Blade stalling is caused by any action which pinches the blade in the wood. DANGER: Release switch immediately if blade binds or saw stalls.
16 4 3 2 0 4 5 5 0 3 0 2 2 1 5 SAW BLADES The best of saw blades will not cut efficiently if they ar e not kept clean, sharp, and properly set. Using a dull blade will place a heavy load on the saw and increase the dan- ger of kickback. Keep extra blades on hand, so that sharp blades are always available.
17 OPERA TION ADJUSTING BLADE DEPTH See Figure 14. Always keep correct blade depth setting. The corr ect blade depth setting for all cuts should not exceed 1/4 in. (6.35 mm) below the material being cut. More blade depth will increase the chance of kickback and cause the cut to be rough.

20 OPERA TION BEVEL CUTTING See Figures 22 - 24. T o make the best possible cut, follow these helpful hints: n Align the line of cut with the inner blade guide notch on the base when making 45° bevel cuts. n Make a trial cut in scrap material along a guideline to determine how much you should offset the guideline on the cutting material.
21 OPERA TION POSITIVE 0° BEVEL STOP See Figure 25. The saw has a positive 0° bevel stop that has been factory adjusted to assure 0° angle of the saw blade when making 90° cuts. TO CHECK POSITIVE 0° BEVEL STOP Follow these directions to check the positive 0° bevel stop: n Remove battery pack from your trim saw .

13 OPERA TION BASE (SHOE) ASSEMBL Y See Figure 5. The base assembly of your recipr ocating saw pivots up and down in both directions. It also is adjustable, allowing the use of the blade teeth at differ ent positions on the blade. TO CHANGE POSITIONS OF BASE ASSEMBL Y : n Remove battery pack.
14 OPERA TION Fig. 7 Fig. 8 PLUNGE CUTTING See Figure 7. Mark the line of cut clearly . Choose a convenient starting point inside the area to be cut out and place the tip of the blade over that point. Rest front edge of base (shoe) assembly on work and hold firmly in position.
