3 1 Getting started GETTING ST AR TED This chapter provides basic inf ormation f or using the copier . INTRODUCTION This copier has been designed to provide intuitive operating ease while requiring a minimum amount of space. T o get full use of all copier f eatures, be sure to f amiliarize yourself with this manual and the copier .
4 1 Getting started CA UTIONS F ollow the cautions below when using this copier . ● The fusing area is hot. Exercise care in this area when removing misf ed paper . ● Do not look directly at the light source. Doing so ma y damage y our e y es . ● Do not s witch the copier rapidly on and off .

8 1 Getting started COPIER INST ALLA TION Improper installation ma y damage the copier . Please note the f ollowing during initial installation and whenever the copier is moved. If the copier is moved from a cool place to a warm place, condensation may f or m inside the copier .
9 1 Getting started 8"(20 cm) 8"(20 cm) 4" (10 cm) 4" (10 cm) COPIER INST ALLA TION Be sure to allow the required space around the machine for servicing and proper ventilation. A small amount of ozone is produced within the copier during operation.
10 1 Getting started LO ADING COPY P APER Raise the handle of the paper tra y and pull the paper tr a y out until it stops . Adjust the paper guides on the paper tra y to the copy paper width and length. Squeeze the lever of paper guide and slide the guide to match with the width of the paper .
11 1 Getting started LO ADING COPY P APER Gently push the paper tra y back into the copier . After loading cop y paper , to cancel the blinking “P” without restar ting copying, press the clear ( ) ke y . The “P” in the display will go out and the ready ( ) indicator will light up.
12 2 Making copies MAKING COPIES This chapter describes basic copying functions and some other cop ying functions using the b ypass tra y . NORMAL COPYING Ensure that paper of the desired size is set in the paper tr ay . See page 10, LO ADING COPY P APER .

14 2 Making copies Press the print ( ) k e y . ● T o display the number of copies made in a contin uous r un, press the left cop y quantity ke y . ● T o stop copying in the middle of a run, press the clear ( ) ke y . Copying will stop and the number in the display will be reset to “0”.
15 2 Making copies Press the e xposure mode selector ke y to select the manual ( ) mode or photo ( ) mode. Use the light ( ) and dark ( ) keys to adjust the exposure level. If exposure level 2 is selected, the two left-handmost indicators for that level will light up simultaneously .
16 2 Making copies Preset reduction and enlargement ratios are: 50%, 64%, 78%, 129%, and 200% When a zoom ( or ) k ey is pressed, the ZOOM indicator will light up and the zoom ratio will be displayed in the displa y . T o decrease or increase the zoom ratio rapidly , press and hold down the or ke y .
17 2 Making copies T o close the bypass tra y , perform step1 and then step 2 in the illustration and push the round projections at the right of the tray until the tray clicks into place. Set the paper guides to the copy paper width. Insert the copy paper (print face down) all the wa y into the bypass tra y .
18 2 Making copies Place the first original on the original table and mak e a cop y . The first cop y can be made using either the paper tra y or the bypass tra y . Replace the first original with the second original on the original table and close the original cov er .
19 3 Special functions SPECIAL FUNCTIONS This chapter describes the special functions of this copier . Use these functions as needed. DESCRIPTION OF SPECIAL FUNCTIONS T oner save mode (page 19) Reduces toner consumption by approximately 10%.
20 3 Special functions T ONER SA VE MODE Press and hold down the e xposure mode selector ke y for appro ximately 5 seconds. The manual ( ) indicator will go out and the photo ( ) indicator will begin to blink. The exposure indicator mark ed “5” will light up, indicating the standard toner mode is active .
21 3 Special functions USER PROGRAMS Press the print ( ) ke y . The entered program number will be steadily lit and the currently selected parameter number for the program will blink on the right side of the displa y . Select the desired parameter using the right cop y quantity ( ) ke y .
22 4 Supplies and user maintenance SUPPLIES AND USER MAINTENANCE This chapter describes how to replace the toner car tr idge. T ONER CAR TRIDGE REPLA CEMENT When the toner cartridge replacement required ( ) indicator lights up, replacement of the toner cartridge will be needed soon.

Hold the cartr idge on both sides and shake it horizontally f our or five times . 4 or 5 times Gently inser t the toner car tridge along the guides until it locks in place while pushing the lock release le ver .

Clean the charger using the follo wing procedure. T ur n the power s witch off . Ensure that the bypass tray is open and then open the side cover while pressing the side cover open button.
26 5 Copier trouble? COPIER TR OUBLE? This chapter describes misfeed removal and troubleshooting. MISFEED REMO V AL When the misfeed ( ) indicator b links or blinks in the displa y , the copier will stop because of a misfeed. If a misf eed occurs when using the SPF , a number ma y appear in the displa y after a minus sign.
27 5 Copier trouble? MISFEED REMO V AL A Misfeed in the paper feed area Gently remov e the misfed paper from the paper f eed area as shown in the illustration. When blinks in the display and the misfed paper is not seen from the paper feed area, pull out the paper tra y and remov e the misf ed paper .
28 5 Copier trouble? MISFEED REMO V AL Gently remov e the misf ed paper from under the fusing unit as shown in the illustration. If the paper cannot be remov ed, proceed to “ C Misfeed in the transpor t area ”. The fusing unit is hot. Do not touch the fusing unit when removing misfed paper .
29 5 Copier trouble? Push gently on both sides of the front cov er to open the cov er . Rotate the f eeding roller in the direction of the arrow and gently remov e the misfed paper from the e xit area.
