6 OPERATION PANEL Origin al to copy ke y and ind icators (AR- 157E ) Two-sided copies from one-sided originals. Turn on Long Edge or Turn on Short Edge can be selected. Two-sided copies from two-sided originals. (Can be selected only when the RSPF is used.
7 2 Follow the steps below t o load pa per into the tray. PAPER For best re sults , use onl y pape r recomm ended by SHARP. * Do not use non-stand ard en velop es, a nd envel opes that h ave met al cl asps , plastic snappers , strin g closu res, win dows, li nings, s elf-adh esive, p atches o r synth etic material s.
8 LOADING TH E PAPER TRAY 1 Raise the handle of the paper tray and pull the paper tray out un til it stops. 2 Adjust the paper guides on the paper tray to the copy paper width and length. Squeeze t he lever of paper guide and slide the guide to match with the width of the paper.
9 2 4 Gently push the paper tray back into th e unit. • After load ing pap er, to can cel the bl inki ng wit hout resta rting copyin g, pres s the c lear ( ) key. The i n the d isplay w ill go out and t he start ( ) indi cator wi ll light u p. • Be sure th at pape r is free o f rips, dust, wri nkles, and curled or ben t edge s.
10 BYPASS FEED (including speci al paper) The multi -bypas s tray c an be u sed to feed s tandar d paper, t ranspa rency f ilm, label s, envelop es an d other s peci al pur pose pap er. Pap er measu ring fr om 3-1 /2" x 5 -1/2" t o 8-1/2" x 14" an d in th e weight range of 14 lbs.

13 3 POWER ON Turn the po wer switch on the left side of the unit to the "ON" po sition. The start ( ) indicato r will l ight up. About the scan head The scan head lamp rem ains o n consta ntly wh en the u nit is in the rea dy condi tion (when th e start ( ) indicator is illum inated ).
14 Power off methods If not use d for a certain pe riod of time, the unit wil l automa ticall y enter au to power shut-off m ode (p .22) in order to mi nimize p ower co nsump tion. I n cases w here the machin e will not b e used fo r a long time, turn off the power s witch and remove the power cord from th e outlet.
15 3 Using the RSPF/S PF The RSPF/ SPF is desi gned t o hold up to 30 origina ls meas uring from 5-1/2" x 8-1/ 2" to 8-1/2" x 14" and weig hting from 14 lbs. to 23.9 lbs . 1 Make sure that no original is left on the original table.
16 SET THE COPY QUANTITY Set the num ber of c opies us ing the two copy qu antity ( , ) keys when copyin g from the o rigina l table or copying from RSPF/SP F. • Press the ri ght co py quantit y key to se t the un it digit from 0 to 9. This key will not chan ge the tens d igit.
17 3 Automat ic exposure a djustment The autom at ic ex posu re lev el ca n be adj ust ed to sui t y our c opyi ng need s. This leve l i s set f or copyi ng fro m the o rigin al table and c opying from the RSP F/SPF re spect ively .
18 REDUCTION/ENLARGEMENT/ZOOM Three pr eset red uction rati os and t wo enlarg ement ratio s can be selected . The zo om function enabl es co py ratio s elect ion from 25% to 4 00% in 1% inc rements. 1 Set the or iginal a nd check the paper size. 2 Use the co py ratio selector key and /or ZOOM ( , ) k eys to select t he desired copy ratio.
19 3 SELECTING THE TRAY Press t he tray se lect ( ) key. Each time y ou press the tray select ( ) key, the lo cation indicate d by t he paper fe ed loc ation ind icator ch anges in the follo wing ord er: pape r tray 1, pa per tray 2, multi - bypass tray.

21 4 Making two-sided c opies 1 Place the o riginal( s) on the o riginal t able or in t he RSP F. (see "ORIGINAL PLACEMENT" (p.14 ). 2 Select two-side d copy mode.
22 DESCRIPTION OF SPECIAL FUNCTIONS Toner save mode (page 22) Reduce s toner c onsum ption by approxim ately 10%. Power s ave mode s (page 2 3) The unit h as two power save mo des o f operat ion: pre heat mod e and a uto powe r shut-off m ode.
23 4 2 Press and hold dow n the exposure mode selector key for approximately 5 seconds. The MANUAL ( ) indicator w ill go out and the PHOTO ( ) indicator will begin to blink. The light an d dark indicator marked "5" will light up, indi cating the standard toner mode is active.

25 5 This ch apter de scribes how to re place the toner c artridg e and how to clea n the u nit. TONER CARTRIDGE REPLACEMENT When the toner c artridge re place ment requ ired ( ) indi cator lig hts up , replace ment of the ton er cartridge will b e needed s oon.
26 3 Gently pull the toner cartridge out while pressing t he lock release lev er. 4 Remove the toner cartridge f rom the bag. Grasp the cartridge on both sides a nd shake it horiz ontally four or five times. After shaking th e cartrid ge, remove the tone r seal.
27 5 6 Close the front cover and then the side cover by pressing the round projections near the side cover open button. The indicator will go out and the start ( ) indicator w ill light up. When closing the co vers, be sure to close the front cover secur ely and th en close the side c over.
28 CLEANING THE UNIT Proper care is esse ntial in orde r to get cl ean, s harp copie s. Be s ure to tak e a few minutes to regu larly cl ean the unit. Cabinet Wipe the cabin et with a soft, cle an cl oth.
29 5 Transf er charge r If copies start bec oming s treaky or blotch y, the transfe r charger m ay be di rty. Clea n the charg er using t he foll owing p rocedu re. 1 Tu rn th e pow er sw it ch of f. 31 6 STATUS INDICA TORS When the foll owing in dicato rs light up or blink on the operati on panel or the follo wing alphanum eric cod es ap pear in the disp lay, s olve the problem immed iately ref erring to bot h the table below a nd the releva nt page.
32 MISF EE D RE MOVA L When t he misfe ed ( ) indicat or blin ks or b links in the di splay , the u nit will stop because of a mis feed. If a mis feed o ccurs whe n using the RSPF/SPF , a nu mber may appear in the dis play after a minus sign.
33 6 A: Misf eed in the pa per feed a rea 1 Gently re move the mi sfed paper from th e paper fee d area as shown in the illustration. W hen the misfeed ( ) indica tor blinks and the misfed paper is not seen from the paper feed area, pull out the paper tray and remove the misfed paper.
34 2 Gently re move the misf ed paper from under the fusin g unit as shown in the illustration. If t he paper cannot be removed, proceed to "C: Misf eed in the trans port area". 3 Raise the f using un it releas e lever and then clo se th e side cover by pressing the round projections near the s ide cover open button.
35 6 4 Raise the f using un it releas e lever , close th e front co ver an d then close the side cover by pressing the round projections near the s ide cover open button. The misfee d ( ) indicator will go out and the start ( ) indicator will li ght up.
36 (B) Open the RSPF /SPF and rotate th e roller rota ting knob to remove the misfed origin al from the exit area. If the misfe d original ca nnot be e asily removed , proceed to (C). (AR-157E) With the R SPF, pull o ut the reversing tray to rem ove the m isfed ori ginal.
37 6 DEVELOPER REQUIRED When the devel oper replac ement re quired ( ) indicator li ghts u p, the dev eloper should be re placed. DEVELOPER REPLACEMENT SHOULD ONLY BE DONE BY AN AUTORIZED SHARP SERVICE TECHNICIAN. Contact your service center as soon as poss ible.
38 SYSTEM CONFIGURATION A number of opti ons are a vailable for the unit which all ow you to conf igure a s ystem to meet y our pa rticula r needs. T he opti ons incl ude th e follo wing. PRINTER/SCANNER EXPANSION K IT (AR-PG2) A printer functi on and scan ner funct ion can be adde d to the unit by installi ng the AR- PG2.
39 7 250-SHEET PAPER FEED UNIT (AR-D16) The paper feed un it prov ide the conveni ence of increas ed pape r capaci ty for th e unit and a grea ter cho ice o f paper size readily a vaila ble for copy ing.

43 8 INSTALLING THE SOF TWARE The follo wing term is use d in this section. MFP Means t he uni t as a prin ter and scan ner. Installing onto Windows XP (USB/parallel interface) Before sta rting th e inst allation, make sure th e USB or paral lel in terface ca ble is not connect ed to th e MFP.
44 5 Review the software p ackag es to be installed on the screen , and then click the "Sta rt" bu tt on. The software package s to be insta lled wi ll be displa yed o n the scre en. If inap propria te packa ges are d isplayed , clic k the "Bac k" but ton to sele ct app ropriate pack ages again.
45 8 7 Begin installation of the B utton Manager ( This step will s tart if it was selec ted in step 4). 1 After confir ming the m essage in the "Wel come" window, c lick the "Next" button. 2 Read the messag e in the "Ple ase rea d the follo wing in formation.

54 USING THE PRINTER MOD E Opening the printer driver from the start menu Open the printer dri ver se tup scree n by the m ethod sh own bel ow. 1 Click the "start" button. 2 Click "Control Panel", select "Printers and Other Hardware", and then click "Pr inters an d Faxes".
