1 Product Overview Features and Benefit s Avocent AutoView 3008/ 3016 switches combi ne analog and digital techno logy to provide flexible control of data center servers, and to facilitate the OA&M (opera tions, activation and maintenance) of remote branch offices where trained operators may be unavailable.
2 AutoView 3008/3016 Switch Installer/User Guide Access the AutoView 3008/3016 switch via a st andard TCP/IP network The Avocent AutoView 3008/3016 switches provide agentless remote control and access. No special software or drivers are required on the att ached, or client, computers.
3 CHAPTER 2 Installation AutoV iew 3008/3016 Sw itch Connectivity The AutoView 3008/3016 switching system transmits keyboard, video and mouse (KV M) information between operators and targ et devices attached to the switch. The AutoView 3008/3016 switch uses TCP/IP for communication ov er a network.

Chapter 2: Installat ion 5 Getting st arted Before installing your AutoView 3008/ 3016 switch, refer to the following lists to ensure you hav e all items that shipped with the switch, as well as other items necessary for proper installation.

You may either place the AutoView 3008/3016 switch on the rack shelf or m ount the switch directly into an Electro nic Industries Alliance (EIA) standard rack.
Chapter 2: Installat ion 7 1. Plug your monitor and either PS/2 or USB keyboard and mouse cabl e s in to the appropriat ely labeled ports on the AutoV iew switch. 2. Plug a compatible IQ or IAC module in to the appropriate ports on the back of the target server .

Chapter 2: Installat ion 9 NOTE: Ports 80 and 443 are configurable by the appliance administrator . In a typical configuration, as shown in Figure 2.2, the user’s computer is located outside of the firewall, and the Auto View 3008/301 6 switch resides inside the firewall.

Chapter 2: Installation 11 T o cascade multiple AutoView switches if your switch does not have an ACI port: 1. Connect an A VRIQ-PS/2 modu le to the local peripheral ports on the cascaded switch. 2. Using an appropriate length of CA T 5 cable, connect the A VRIQ-PS/2 modul e from step 1 to an available port on your 3008/3016 switch.

Basic Operations Main Dialog Box Functions T o access the OSCAR interface Main dialog box: Press Print Screen to launch the OSCAR interface.

Y ou may view the target devices by name, port or by the u nique Electronic ID (EID) embedded in each IQ module.
Chapter 3: Local Port Operation 15 Sof t switching Soft switching is the ability to switch target de vices using a hotkey sequen ce. You can soft switch to a target device by pressing Print Screen and then, depending on the method you’ve selected, typing the first few characters of it s nam e or number.

Chapter 3: Local Port Operation 21 Setting the keyboa rd country code NOTE: Using a keyboard code that supports a language different from that of your AutoView 3008/3016 switch firmware will cause incorrect keyboard mapping . Sun servers may use keyboard mappings for non-U S key boards.
22 AutoView 3008/3016 Switch Installer/User Guide 3. Reboot the Sun servers. After re booting, each Sun server will re quest the country code setting stored in the IQ module. NOTE: If you wish to reboot the target devices by pow er-cycling t hem, you must wait 90 seconds before rebooting.

You can select multiple methods when a new client connection is req uested. The AutoView 3008/3016 switch negotiat es for the highest enabled encryption method .

85 Appendices Appendix A: Flash Upgrades The AutoView 3008/3016 switch Flash upgrade feature allo ws you to update your appliance with the latest firmware available. This update can be performed using a Trivial File Transfer Prot ocol (TFTP) server, File Transfer Pr otocol (FTP) or using the OBWI.
86 AutoView 3008/3016 Switch Installer/User Guide 10. The AutoV iew 3008/3016 switch will begin the Fl ash upgrade pro cess. On-screen ind icators will display the upgrade progress. When the upload is compl e te, th e AutoV iew 3008/3016 switch will reset and upgrade the intern al su bsystems.
Appendices 87 Appendix B: Using Serial IQ Modules The serial IQ module is a serial -to-VGA converter that allows VT100-capable devices to be viewed from the AutoView 3008/3016 switch lo cal port or the OBW I. The actual serial data is not accessed, but is merely displayed.
