Lo ad ing the Ima gin g F il m Your fax uses a roll of imagin g film to create printed t ext and images. The print head in the fax applies heat to the imaging film to transfer ink to the paper. Follow the steps below to load or replace the film . The initia l starter roll of i maging film included with your fax can print about 30 letter-size pages.

Loadin g Printin g Pap er You can load lett e r or legal size paper in the paper tray. The maxi mum numb er of sheets depend s on the weight and siz e of the paper you are loadi n g. ♦ Paper fr om 16 to 2 0 lbs. En tering Your Name an d Fax Nu mber Before you can begi n using your fax, you need to enter your name and the telephone number of your fax. Y ou also need to set the date and time. Once y ou enter th is information, it w ill automatically appear at the top of each fax page you send.

Chapter 2 Usin g th e Answe ring Mach ine The UX-460’s built -in answering machine all ows you to receive both voi ce messages and fax transmis sio ns while you a re out. 2. Answ e r ing Mac hi ne To use the answering machine, recor d an outgoing m essage and then set the recept ion mode t o TAD when you go out.

T ra nsf e r F un ctio n The Transfer function is used to make the UX-460 autom aticall y call you at a specified number ev ery tim e it re ceives an incoming m essage. This lets yo u hear your messages immedi at ely after they come in, even when you ar e at a remote lo cat ion .

Re mote O peratio ns You can call the UX-460 from any touch-to ne telepho ne and play back your messag es usin g the remote commands . You can also use these commands to change the rece ption mode and other setting s. Rem ote code numbe r To perform remote operatio ns, you must first program a remote code numb er.
Toll Sav er When you call the UX-460 to lis ten to your messages, it will answer after two ri ngs if it has received at le ast one messag e, or after four rings if it has no t re ceived any messages. This allows you to sav e money on telephon e charges, particul arly if you ar e calling long dist ance.

Once you have found the nu mber, you c an dial it and transm it the load ed document by simpl y pressing t he START/ M EMORY key.

Reception Rati o The fax has been set at the factory to autom aticall y redu ce the size of received document s to fit the size of the printing paper. Thi s ensures that data on the edges of the docum ent a re not cut off. If desired, you can turn this function off and have rece ived documents print ed at full size.

Hold You can put the oth er party on hold during a conversation by pressing th e HOLD/S EARCH key. When this is don e, they cannot hear you. You can put the handset back i n the cradle without breaking th e connection. When you a re ready to speak with them again, pi ck up the hands et.
