Installation 15 Depending upon the mounting location y ou select in your vehicle , the mount should be attached t o the vehicle dock and installed as des cribed in the following sections.
Installation 16 Suction Cup Mount Me thod (A) The suction cup mount may be at tached to any smooth surf ace. B efore att aching the suction cup mount to y our windshield, you should check your s tate and local law s for regulations r egarding mounting this devic e on your windshield.
Installation 17 Be sure the c am lever is up ( as shown in Figure 3 ) and position the suction cup mount on the windshield or other location y ou which have chosen. Pr ess the cam lev er all the wa y down tow ards the base o f the mount until it locks to adher e the suction cup.
Installation 18 V ent Mount Method (B) T o mount the vehicle dock using the vent mount me thod, install the vent mount as follo ws: If the vent louver s in your vehicle ar e re cessed, y ou may need to use the longer vent hooks with the v ent mount. Refer t o Figure 4 and install the longer v ent hooks into the v ent mount.
Installation 19 Ref er to Figure 6 and attach the v ent mount to a heating/ air conditioning vent in your v ehicle. Position the t wo tension springs A against a vent louv er B . Then push the vent mount into the v ent, far enough so that the hook s C drop down and hook the rear o f the vent louver ( see Figure 7 ).
Installation 20 Y ou can change he angle of the v ehicle dock by changing the position of f oot D on the vent mount t o a different adjustmen t hole (see Figure 8 ).
Installation 21 Inst alling the Magnetic Antenna Caution Because adhe sive is used in the installation o f the Rubber Antenna Co ver /T ail, we rec ommend that you install the ant enna at or above room t emperatur e (68° F). The adhesiv e on the Rubber Cover /T ail may not adher e properly to the vehicle r oof at temper atures lo wer than this.
Installation 22 Antenna Mounting The SIRIUS Magnetic Mount V ehicle Antenna has a strong magne tic mount designed to hold it in place during normal driving c onditions (highwa y / city ). This also makes the antenna eas y to remo ve for tr ansferring it to other v ehicles.
Installation 23 The SIRIUS ant enna needs to have an unobstruct ed area of 3 inche s by 3 inches around it . It is important t o mount the antenna where no obstructions will block the an- tenna fr om receiving the SIRIUS signal.
Installation 24 Peel the pr otective material fr om the adhesive strips ( see Figure 10 , on page 23) and pres s the rubber Cover /T ail fi rmly into place on the vehicle . Double check that the location of the ant enna and rubber cover /tail ar e correct, and continue to pr ess fi rmly do wn on the Rubber Cov er /T ail for another 30 sec onds.
Installation 25 Sedan / Coupe Ant enna Cable Routing Proc edure Figure 11 shows ho w the antenna cable should be r outed from the antenna t o your Starmat e ST5 in a sedan/ coupe. F ollow these detailed c able installation instructions: F eed the cable from the antenna underne ath the rubber molding around the rear window .
Installation 26 Rout e the antenna cable out of the windo w molding and into the rubber weather stripping around the trunk opening. Lift the w eather stripping from the opening and tuck the cable inside it, then r eplace the weather stripping.
Installation 27 Pickup T ruck Antenna Cable R outing Procedur e Figure 12 shows ho w the antenna cable should be r outed from the antenna t o your Starmat e ST5 in a pickup truck.
Installation 28 At the lo west corner o f the windshield, route the cable out o f the windshield molding and into the rubber w eather stripping around the door opening. Lift the weather stripping fr om the opening and tuck the cable inside it, then r eplace the weather stripping.
Installation 29 F ollow these detailed c able installation instructions: F eed the antenna cable underneath the rubber we ather stripping of the rear tailgate windo w / door and route the c able along the rear hatch. Lift the we ather stripping from the opening and t uck the cable inside it, then replace the w eather stripping.
Installation 30 Bring the cable out fr om the trim near the fi rew all and route it under the carpe t tow ard the dashboar d or console. C oil any ex cess cable in a hidden loc ation, such as under the carpet, k eeping it awa y from any vehicle pedals or c ontrols.
Installation 31 F ollow these detailed c able installation instructions: Bring the cable fr om the antenna into the trunk at the front edge o f the trunk lid. K eep any bends in the cable loose . T ape or tie the cable along the inside of the trunk lid to the trunk lid hinge strut .

Installation 38 Docking the St armate S T5 T o place y our SIRIUS ST5 into the V ehicle Dock, align the radio against the re ar of the Dock so that the r ails on the Dock fit into the mounting slots in the back of the r adio (s ee Figure 17 ). Slide the radio all the w ay down ont o the Dock so that it fits firmly .
Installation 39 Cable S eparation and R outing F CC Inf ormation The satellit e antenna cable , FM extender antenna (FEA ) cable and cigaret te lighter adapter ( CLA) power c able must be appropriately s eparated and r outed for y our radio to be compliant with f ederal regulations .
Installation 40 St ep 3 Coil an y exce ss cable between the cigar ette light er socket and v ehicle dock, keeping it aw ay from vehicle pedals or c ontrols to pr event any slack which might in terfere with the safe oper ation of your v ehicle. Secure the e xcess c able with wire ties.
Installation 41 Connecting the S tarmat e ST5 t o Y our V ehicle’ s A udio Sy st em Ther e are two w ays t o connect your SIRIUS St armate ST5 to y our vehicle’ s audio sy stem: Direct C onnection or Wireless C onnection. Which one will perform best in y our vehicle depends on your v ehicle’ s audio syst em.
Installation 42 Direct FM A udio Connection If your v ehicle’ s audio syst em does not have an Aux In/Line In c onnection, a SIRIUS FM Direct A dapter (sold s eparately ) will provide the ne xt-best qualit y connection bet ween your St armate ST5 and your v ehicle radio.
Installation 43 Cass ette A dapter If your v ehicle’ s audio syst em has a cassett e player you c an purchase a cas sette adapt er from y our local electronics r etailer or from SIRIUS at http:// shop.
Installation 44 Wirele ss Connection If you c annot connect your SIRIUS r adio directly to y our vehicle’ s audio syst em, your Starmat e ST5 contains an FM tr ansmitter that will ‘br oadcast’ its audio t o your vehicle’ s FM radio .
Installation 45 Pres s and hold the FM P RESETS button ( see Figure 2 6 ). The FM P RESET S screen will appear , with FM1 highlighted. FM1 is fact ory-set to 88. 1MHz. This may not be the best fr equency for your ar ea (see Figure 2 7 ). Pres s the Select button.
Installation 46 If you r egularly trav el between cities with diff erent active FM channels, you ma y need to fi nd channels that are not broadcas ting in each city . Y our Starmat e ST5 can st ore up to 5 pr eset FM transmit channels ( see Figure 2 7 , on page 45), so y ou can easily swit ch to the best FM channel f or each city .
Installation 47 Wirele ss Audio C onnection Using the FM Extender Ant enna Y our SIRIUS radio include s an FM Extender Antenna (FEA) that c an maximize the audio quality of y our SIRIUS radio when using a Wir eless Connection.
Installation 48 IMPORT ANT NOTE The FM Extender Ant enna is placed inside your v ehicle in close proximit y to the vehicle ’s FM ant enna. In order for it to pr ovide a strong FM signal f or good reception, it MUST be mount ed in the correct location and orient ation, as described in the following sections.
Installation 49 W ARNING Notice t o drivers In Calif ornia and Minnesota Stat e law prohibits driv ers in California and Minnes ota from using suction mounts on their windshields while operating mo tor vehicles. Other dashboar d or friction mounting options should be used.

Use the cable guides t o hold the cable in place until it r eaches the inner trim or moulding at the edge of the window .
Installation 63 Tips f or Identifying the FM Antenna Corr ectly identifying your vehicle ’s FM ant enna is a key to suc cessfully installing the FEA. T he prec eding installation section already sho wed you the differ ent kinds of FM antennas f ound on vehicles.
Installation 64 Great er confusion may arise with whip t ype antennas. Figure 4 7 shows s ome whip type ant ennas which can be found on the front or r ear of a vehicle ’s r oof, or on the rear windshield. S ome of these antennas could be the FM an tenna and some are not the FM antenna.

Pres sing the Category < or > butt on once will display a list of the subs cribed channels in the current c ategory , highlighting the currently-t uned channel (see Figure 5 7 ).
Operation 74 Use the Channel UP /DOWN buttons t o highlight a channel within a category and pr ess the Select butt on to tune to the highlight ed channel. When you tune to a ne w channel, the display will r evert to the Def ault screen for the ne w channel.
Operation 75 Display (D ISP ) B utt on Pres sing and holding the D ISP button for 1½ sec onds will also activate the M Y C HANNELS screen ( see page 7 4). The M Y C HANNELS screen mak es it easy t o quickly search for and locate music on an y of your subs cribed channels by channel, by artist, and by s ong title.
Operation 76 Changing the Display Momentarily pr essing the D ISP button while the Def ault screen is display ed changes the artist name and song title to a s crolling, single-line, lar ge-format display for easier viewing fr om a distance ( see Figure 6 1 ).
Operation 77 Channel Pre sets (B AND But ton ) Y ou can st ore up to 30 o f your fa vorite channels as pre sets for quick acc ess with the pres s of a button.
Operation 78 Recalling Channel Pr esets The 10 pr esets in the active bank ( A, B, or C) can be selected b y pressing the 0 – 9 butt ons. Pres s the B AND button to activ ate the pres et bank you w ant. The selected bank is shown in the low er-right corner of the def ault display screen.
Operation 79 While the M Y P RESETS screen is activ e, pressing the D ISP but ton will cycle the channel information on the s creen betw een channel names, artist names, compos er names (if av ailable) and song title ( see Figure 65 ).
Operation 80 If you ha ve saved a sports team or c ar in memory , when you initially pow er your ST5 on you will be alerted if y our sports team/ car are playing/ racing in a game / race being broadc ast. Also, y ou will be alerted should your team/ car begin playing/ racing while you’ re listening t o your Starmat e ST5.
Operation 81 Using the Channel UP /DOWN buttons , choose S TORE A RTI ST or S TORE S ONG (when av ailable) and pre ss the Select button t o save the selection to memory . If both the artist and song are a vailable to sa ve, you will be pr ompted again to sa ve whichever one you ha ven’t yet sa ved (s ee Figure 6 9 ).
Operation 82 Using the Channel UP /DOWN buttons , choose the desired sports t eam (when av ailable) and pre ss the Select button t o save the current s election to memory .
Operation 83 Use the Channel UP /DOWN butt ons to choose whether to r eplace an exis ting aler t or cancel sa ving the alert to memory . If you canc el saving the alert, the radio will re vert to the last active displa y mode.
Operation 84 Vie wing Stored Alerts St ored in Memory T o view all the alerts y ou have saved t o memory , press and hold the M EMO butt on for 1½ seconds t o enter the S-S eek mode. The alerts stor ed in memory will be displayed one- at-a-time in p age format (see Figure 7 7 ).
Operation 85 • An A RTIST D ELETED pop-up screen f ollowed by an X U SED /Y E MPTY s creen will be display ed for 1 and 2 seconds r espectively (see Figure 7 9 ) X is the tot al number of listings sa ved in memory , and Y is the total number of memory lis tings still av ailable for stor age.
Operation 86 The S T5 then displays the S IRIUS S EEK L IST screen, which display s a list of the current matches ( see Figure 81 ). No alert is provided f or the currently-tuned channel. Use the Channel UP /DOWN butt ons to highlight the artist, song, or sports ev ent that you wish t o listen to , and then press the Select but ton to tune to it .
Operation 87 Jump But ton Y our Starmat e ST5 has a special pres et button called the Jump button that le ts you quickly tune to a channel that y ou want to ac cess frequently , such as a traf fi c channel or a sports channel.
Operation 88 Pres sing the Jump button again while the ST5 is activ ely searching for a tr af fi c report will cancel the s earch. Pres sing the Jump button after the S T5 has tuned to the tr af fi c report channel will ret urn you to the pre vious channel.
Operation 89 SIRIUS R eplay Y our Starmat e ST5 automatically s tores the audio o f the channel you’r e listening to for later playb ack. Approximately 3 0 to 60 minutes of audio ( depending upon the channel to which you ar e tuned) is stored.
Operation 90 Select an item fr om the list and the playback will commenc e from that point in the stor ed audio. If you select “<<Liv e>>” the ST5 will exit the SIRIUS R eplay mode and resume pla ying the live broadcas t.
Operation 91 Pres sing-and-holding the Rewind but ton for one sec ond rewinds playback in 10 second int ervals, which incre ase to 15 and then 30 second int ervals the longer the Re wind button remains pr ess ed. Playback begins immediately when y ou rele ase the button.
Operation 92 The Pr ogress Bar is a visual indicat or of the status o f the SIRIUS Replay memory (s ee Figure 88 ). As the memory fi lls, Progr ess Bar begins to fi ll from the right side pro viding a visual indication of how much of the SIRIUS R eplay memory is fi lled.
Operation 93 The portion of the Pr ogress Bar t o the right of the Play Position indic ator shows ho w much you c an rewind in the SIRIUS Repla y memory , while the fi lled portion to the left of the Play Po sition Indicator show s how much you can f ast-f orward in the memory .

Menu Options 96 Menu Options allow s you to set and/ or change the various f eatures and se ttings of your SIRIUS St armate S T5. Press and release the M ENU butt on to display the M ENU O PTIONS (s ee Figure 9 4 ). Use the Channel UP /DOWN butt ons to highlight selections in the menu lists and pre ss the Select butt on to select them.
Menu Options 97 FM T ransmit ter The FM T RANSMITTER menu option allow s you to enable or disable the S T5’s built -in FM transmit ter , and select up to 5 dif ferent pr eset FM transmit ter frequencies (s ee Figure 96 ).
