About this Document This manual is intended for admini strators and users of the AXIS M1144–L Network Camera, and is applicable to fi rmware 5.40 and later. It includes instructions fo r using and managing the product on your network. Previous experience of networking will be of use when using this product.

AXIS M1 144–L A ccessing the P r oduct Accessing the Product To install the Axis product, refer to the Installation Guide supplie d with the pro duct. The product can be used with most operating systems and browsers. The recommended brow sers are Internet Ex plore r with Windows, Safari with Macintosh and Fire fox with other operating systems.
AXIS M1 144–L A ccessing the P r oduct Access from the I nternet Once connected, the Axis product is accessible o n your local net work (LAN). To access the product from the Internet you m ust con fi gure your network router to allow incoming data traf fi c to the product.

Consequently, some of the examples and functions featured here may differ from those displayed in your own Live View page.
AXIS M1 144–L A ccessing the P r oduct PTZ Controls The Live View page also displays Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) controls. The administrator can enable/disable controls for speci fi ed users under System Options > Security > Users . Note These controls are available if digital PTZ is enabl ed in the selected view area, see View Area on page 17 .

AXIS M1 144–L Media Str eams Note • <ip>= IP addess • The Axis product supports QuickTime 6.5.1 and later. • Q uickTime adds latency to the video stream. • It may be possible to use other players to view the H.264 stre am using the paths above, although Axis does not guarantee this.
AXIS M1 144–L Setting Up the Pr oduct Setting Up the P roduct The Axis p roduct can be con fi gured by users with administra tor or operator r ights. To open the product’s Setup pages, click Setup in the top right-hand corner of the Live View page.

AXIS M1 144–L Setting Up the Pr oduct Image The default image settings can be con fi gured under Video> Video Stream . Select the Im age tab. The following settings are available: • Resolution . Select the default resolution. • Compression .
AXIS M1 144–L Setting Up the Pr oduct Four pre-programmed stream pro fi l es are availab le for quick set up. Each pre-progr am m e d pro fi le has a des criptive nam e, indicating its purpose. If required, the pre-programmed s tream pro fi les can be modi fi ed and new customized stream pro fi les can be created.
AXIS M1 144–L Setting Up the Pr oduct View Area A vie w area is a cropp ed par t of the full view. The view area is treated as a video source in Live View and has its ow n video stream and PTZ settin gs.
AXIS M1 144–L Setting Up the Pr oduct To use an overlay image, the image must fi rst be uploaded to the Axis product: 1. Go to Video > Overlay Image . 2. Click Brow se a n db r o w s et ot h e fi le. 3. Click Upload . 4. Select the image to use from the Use overlay image list.

To mo dify or remove guard tours, go to P T Z>G u a r dT o u r , select the guard tour in the Guard T our List and click Modify/Remove .
AXIS M1 144–L Detector s Detectors Camera Tampering Camera Ta m per ing can genera te an alarm whenever the camera is repositioned, or when the lens is covered, sprayed or severely defocused. To send an alarm, for example an email, an action rule must be set up.
AXIS M1 144–L Detector s Note Using the motion detection feature may dec rease the product’s overall p erf orm a nce. Set Up Motion Detection Windows To set up a motion detection Include Window , follow these ins tructions : 1. Go to Detectors > Motion Detection .
AXIS M1 144–L Detector s Low level (0%) Even very small objects trigger motion detection. An object that appears in the window triggers motion detection only for a very short time before it is conside re d as non-moving. Only very bright objects on a dark background trigger motion detection.
AXIS M1 144–L Ev e n t s Events The Axis product can be con fi gure d to perform actions whe n di ffe rent e ve nts occur, for example, start a rec ord ing w he n m otion is detected. The set of conditions that de fi nes how and when the action is triggered is called an Action Rule .
AXIS M1 144–L Ev e n t s - Recurrence — trigger the rule periodically, see Recurrences on page 29 . This can for example be used to upload an image eve ry 5 minutes. - Use Schedule — trigger the rule according to the se lected sc hedule, see Schedules on page 29 .

AXIS M1 144–L Ev e n t s 1. Go to Events > Recurrences and click Add . 2. Enter a descriptive name and recurrence pattern. 3. Click OK . To use the recurrence in a n Action Rule, fi rst se lect Time from the Trigger drop-do wn list in the Action Rule Setup page and then select the recurrence from the second drop-down list.

AXIS M1 144–L Re c o rd i ng s Note If a new stream pro fi le is selected while a recording is ongoing, the reco rding will be stopped a nd saved in the recording list and a new recording with the new stream pro fi le will start.
AXIS M1 144–L System Options System Options Security Users User access control is enabled by default and can be con fi gured under System O ptions > Security > Users . An administrator can set up other users by giving them user names and passwords.
AXIS M1 144–L System Options HTTPS HTTPS (HyperTe xt Transfer Proto col over Se c ure Socket Layer, o r HTTP over SSL) is a web protocol providing encrypted browsing. HTTPS can also be used by users and clients to verify that the corr ect device is being accessed.
AXIS M1 144–L System Options Certi fi cates CA Certi fi cate The CA certi fi cate is used to va lida te the identity of the a uthentication s erver. Enter the path to the certi fi cate directly, or lo cate the fi le using the Browse button. Then click Upload .
AXIS M1 144–L System Options CA certi fi cates - to authenticate peer certi fi cates, for example the certi fi cate of an authentication server in case the Axis product is connected to an IEEE 802.
AXIS M1 144–L System Options Networ k Basic TCP/IP Settings The Axis product supports IP version 4 and IP version 6. Both versions can be enabled simultaneo usly, and at least one version must always be enabled. Network Interface Mode The network interface to the AXIS product can be wired or wireless .
AXIS M1 144–L System Options AXIS Internet Dynam ic DNS Service AXIS Internet Dynamic DNS Service assigns a host name for easy ac ce s s to the product. For more information, see www.axiscam.net To register the A xis product with AXIS Interne t Dynamic DNS Se rvice , go to System Op tions > Network > TCP/IP > Basic .
AXIS M1 144–L System Options HTTPS The HTTPS port used by the Axis product can be changed under System Options > Network > TCP/IP > A dvanced . In addition to the default setting, which is 443, any port in the range 1024–65535 can be used.
AXIS M1 144–L System Options SOCKS SOCKS is a networking proxy protocol. The Axis product can b e con fi gured to use a SOCKS server to reach networks on the other side of a fi rewall or proxy server.
AXIS M1 144–L System Options Note The initial password can only be set once. If the p assword is lo st, the Axis prod uct must be reset to factory default, see Reset to Factory Default Settings o n page 44 . UPnP TM The Axis pro duct includes support for UPnP TM .
AXIS M1 144–L System Options 3. The card can now be removed. The SD card is managed on the System Options > Storage page. Click SD Card to o pen Storage M anagement . If the card’s status shows as fa ile d, click Check disk to see if the problem can be found and then try Repair .

AXIS M1 144–L System Options The log levels for the System Log and the Access Log are set under System Options > Support > Logs & Reports > Con fi guration . The Access Log can be con fi gured to list all connections to the product (select Cri tical, Warnings & Info).
AXIS M1 144–L T r oubleshootin g Troubleshooting Checking the Firmware Firmware is software that determines the func tionality of network devices. One of your fi rst actions when troubleshooting a problem should be to check the current fi rmware version.
