33 Adjusting the recor ding level manually (Manual recor ding) When you record , the sound l evel is adjusted a utomatically . If necessary , you can set the le vel manually . Note Adjust the record ing level while the r ecorder is in st andby mode. Y ou can not adjust it while recor ding.

67 System limitations The r ecording sys tem in your M iniDisc rec order is ra dically differen t from th ose used in cas sette and DA T de cks and is char acterized by the limit ations described b elow . Note, ho wev er , that these li mitations are due t o the inhere nt nature of the MD recordi ng system i tself and not t o mech anical causes.
68 The total recorded time and the remaining time on the di sc may not total the maximum record ing time (60, 74 , or 80 minutes). Normally , recording is done in minimum units of appr oximatel y 2 seconds (i n stereo), 4se conds (in m onaural or LP2 m ode), or 8 sec onds (in LP4 mode).

74 What is an MD? How Min iDisc works MiniDisc (MD) comes in tw o types: prem astered (prerecord ed) and reco rdable (blank). Premastere d MDs, recorded at music studios , can be play ed back almos t endlessl y . Ho wev er, they can ’ t be recorded on or over lik e cassette tapes.
75 Quick Ran dom Access Like CDs, MDs offer instantaneous random access to the be ginni ng of any music trac k.
