5 INTRODUCTION Y our NetLink 8000 Series Wire less T elephone uses radio wav e technology to send and receive v oice tr ansmissions. It is designed to operate like a cell phone. How eve r, the handset uses the pri vate telephone system installed in your fa cility and will not operate out- side the area covered by this sy stem.

8 The Handset THE HANDSET Modes of Operation Y our handset has fiv e modes of operation: Menu Navigation The navigation keys (Nav keys ) just below the softkeys are used to navigate through menu options. Thes e are re fer red to in this guid e as Nav S , Nav T , Nav W , Nav X , and NavOK .
9 The Handset Short cut Keys When a me nu is displayed, a shor tcut key may be displayed on the right edge of the menu line . Press the corresponding number on the keypad to acti vate the corresponding menu option. Handse t Display s The top row of the display provides status indicators for v arious handset conditions .
10 The Handset Status Bar Indicators Indicator Functi on The signal-strength icon indicates the strength of the signal and can assist the user in determining if the handset is moving out of range. The voicemail icon is acti vated when a new voicemai l message is received when this feature is a vailable in you r facility .
11 The Handset The priority PTT ring icon. A call is coming in on the prio rity PTT channel. This call will override any other. Muted The muted indicator displays after the Mute softkey has been pressed. It indicates that th e microphone is not transmitting sound.
12 The Handset Sof tkey Labels The bottom row of the handset displays labels associated with the four softkeys just below it. When a softk ey is active , a label appears to describe its function.
13 The Handset Mute Mute T og gles to mute or unmu te the microphone. No Nega tive reply Press to re ply “No” to a di splayed question. Phbk Phonebook Opens the phonebook. Play Pla y Plays the selected ring tone . Prof Profile Opens the Profile menu.
14 Getting Star ted GETTING ST AR TED Y our NetLink 8000 Series Wireless T elephone is designed for full mobility within the workplace and operates much like a cell phone. It also interfaces with the t elephone system a t your w orkplace and incorporates advanced telephony features.
15 Getting Star ted Unlock the keyp ad P ress the Unlk softk ey , then # , to unloc k the keypad. Lock the keypad Pre ss the Lock softkey . Make an in ternal call Press the ST ART key , wait for a dial tone, then dial the extension.
16 Getting Star ted Redial a number P ress the Redl softkey from standby mode. A list of re ce ntly-dialed num bers displays . Select the n umber and press ST ART , NavOK or the Spkr softk ey . Make a speed-dial c all Press and hold the speed-di al key assigned t o the number .
17 Getting Star ted Silence while ringing Press the END key to silence the ring. Change the ring volume Press the up/down volume buttons on the side of the handset during ringing . The default ring volumes are set in the User Profile menus . Activate or deactivat e the speakerphone Press the Spkr softk ey and speak tow ards the handset.

19 Advanced Features ADV ANCED FEA TURES F acility -Specific Features Press the FCN key while off-hook or in a call to display the the soft- keys programmed for ad vanced telephony features such as transfer, conference, and voicemail. T he features m ay be activated by press- ing the corresponding shor tcut key .
20 Advanced Features Data Entry and Editing Enter numbers by pressing the buttons on the keypad. The blink- ing underscore identifie s the current cur sor position. When enter- ing alphanumeric strings , the CAPS/caps softkey will appear and may be pressed to toggle the case.
21 Advanced Features Phonebook The phonebook in your NetLink 80 00 Series Wire less T ele phone can store up to 20 user -defined numbers. Open the phonebo ok list by pressing the Phbk softkey from the standby mode or b y pressing the Save softkey during predial.
22 Advanced Features Phoneb ook Edit Entry Opti ons Speed-Dial The NetLink 8000 Series Wireless T elephone can assign up to 10 speed-dial keys to num bers entered into the phonebook. Open the speed-d ial list by pressi ng the Spdl softk ey from standby mode.
23 Advanced Features then press the Set softkey to open the phonebook list. Use the search routine or the Nav k eys to select the des ired entr y . Press NavO K to assign the select ed name to that speed-dial key . The Back soft key retur ns you to the speed-dial l ist.

26 Advanced Features T oggle Options Some menu options that hav e only two possibilities operate on a tog gle basis . T he current setting is shown on the second row of the display , called the info line . Highlight the option and press Nav OK to tog gle between the settings .

28 Advanced Features Push-to-talk (PTT) The PTT feature allows NetLink 8030 Series Wi reless T elephones to operate in a g roup broadcast mo de that allows the handsets to behave like walkie- talkies, where a single handset can transmit to multiple listeners .
29 Advanced Features End one PTT call and star t another one Press the END key to exit the PTT call. Press and rel ease the TA L K button and select a different channel from the list. Press and hold the TAL K button to begin transmitting on the different channel.
30 Accessories CHARGERS, BA TTERY P ACKS AND ACCESSORIES Accessories for the NetLink 8000 Series Wi reless T elephone include three differe nt charger models, three different Batter y Pack models , a headset and several car rying options. Battery Packs The Batter y Pac ks must be recharged periodically .
31 Accessories Charger Models Three charger models are available for the NetLink 8000 Series Wireless T elephone. The Single Char g er will charge a single hand- set with an installed Battery Pack . T he Dual Charger will charge the handset and a spare Batter y Pac k.
32 Accessories Charging St atus The handset display and the LED on the Dual and Quad Chargers indicate whether or not charging is occurr ing or completed or if a Battery Pack failure has been detected.* Handset/LED Charging Stat us Charging LED Solid On The Batter y Pac k in the handset is char gin g .
33 Accessories Single Ch arger The Si ngle Charg er is desi gned to allow the handset to remain operational through speakerphone or headset use while the hand- set's Battery Pack is being c harg ed. The handset may also be charged while it is in standb y mode or turned off.
34 Accessories Dual Charger The Dual Charger is de signed to charge the Bat ter y Pac k in the handset while it remains operationa l and also charge an additional Battery Pack in the rear chargi ng bay . The handset has charging pri- ority when both slots are occupied.
35 Accessories Quad Char ger The Quad Charg er is designed to simultaneous ly charge four Bat- ter y P acks. It ma y be mounted on a horizontal or vertical surface. The Batter y Pac k snaps into the charging slot . T he LED abov e the occupied bay indicates the charging status of the Battery Pac k in the bay .
36 Accessories Carrying Options The following options are av ailabl e for handset protection and easy handset carr ying and removal. Belt clip: Spring-loaded plastic belt clip that attaches to the bac k of the handset.
