95693 Revision P 1-1 1 General Information This chapter describe s the librar y storag e module (LSM) for an automated cartridg e system (A CS). An A CS is a remo vable media, robotic system that mounts cartridg es into storage cells , tape driv es , cartridg e access port (CAP), or cartridg e exch ange mechanism (CEM).
Library Storage Module Components 1-2 Revision P 95693 Rob ot Figure 1-2 on page 1-3 shows the robot co mponents . The robot is a mechanism that mov es cartridges between storage cells , CTUs , tape driv es , CAP , or CEM. The robot consists of the Z column assemb ly , hand, and camera assembly .
95693 Revision P 1-3 Library Storage Module Components The camera assembly on th e hand reads the car tridge volume serial numbers (VOLSERs) during audits , but is not used to locate car tridg es during robot ic mov es . An audit occurs when: • Y ou po w er-on the LSM.
Library Storage Module Components 1-4 Revision P 95693 Car tridge Access Por t The car tridg e access por t (CAP) is a storage area whe re you add cartridg es to or remov e cartridg es from an LSM.
95693 Revision P 1-5 Cartridge Drives and Cabinets ■ Car tridge Dri v es and Ca binets The car tridg e driv e attaches to the rear of the LSM and contains: • T w o or four 9490 (TimberLine) CTUs .
