Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-1 Chapter 4 BIOS 4-1 Introduction This chapter describes the AMI BIOS Setup Utility for the X8ST3-F/X8STE . The AMI ROM BIOS is s tored in a Fl ash EEPROM an d can be easi ly updated. This ch apter describes the basic navigation of the AMI BIOS Setup Utility setup screens.
4-2 X8ST3-F/X8STE User ’s Manual How to Start the Setup Utility Normally , the only visible Power-On Self-T est (POST) routine is the memory test. As th e mem ory i s bei ng te sted, press the <D elete> key to ent er th e mai n men u of the AMI BIOS S etup Utilit y .
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-3 System Overview: The following BIOS information will be displayed: System Time/Syste m Date Use this option to change the system time and date. Highlight System Time or Sys - tem Date using the arrow ke ys. Enter new values through the keyboa rd.

Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-7 Intel AES-NI (When supported by the CPU) Intel® AES instructions are a new set of instructions available beginning with the the all new 2010 Intel® Core™ processor family based on the 32nm Intel® microarchitecture.
4-8 X8ST3-F/X8STE User ’s Manual C3 Auto Demotion When enabled, the CPU will conditionally demote C6 or C7 requests to C3 based on un-core auto-demote information. The options are Disabled and Enabled. ACPI T State This feature E nables the ACPI throttling support for the processor to s ave power .
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-9 L0s i s int ended as a powe r sav ing state. It al lows a lin k to quickl y ent er a nd recover form a power saving state without going through recovery . L1 is a power saving s tate that allows an ad ditional power saving o ver L0s, but with additional r esume (wake-up) l atency .
4-10 X8ST3-F/X8STE User ’s Manual Throttling - Closed Loop Throttling improves reliability and reduces power in the processor by au - tomatic voltage control d uring processor idle stat es.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-1 1 Legacy USB Support Select Enabled to use Le gacy U SB de vices. If th is ite m is set to Auto, Legacy USB support will be automatically enabled if a legacy USB device is installed on the motherboard, and vise versa. The settings are Disabled, Enabled and Auto .

Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-13 DMA Mode Select Auto to allow the BIOS to automa tically detect IDE DMA mode when the IDE disk drive support cannot be determined. Select SWDMA0 to allow the BIOS to use Single Word DMA mode 0. It has a data transfer rate of 2.
4-14 X8ST3-F/X8STE User ’s Manual the S. M.A.R.T . Sele ct Ena bled t o allo w the AM I BIOS to use the S.M.A.R.T . to support hard drive disk. The options are Disabled, Enabled, and Auto . 32-Bit Data T ransfer Select Enable to ena ble th e funct ion of 32-bit IDE data transfer.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-15 Load Onboard LAN1 Option ROM/Load Onboard LAN2 Option ROM This feature is to enable LAN OPROM for PXE. T his is t o b oot computers using a network interface. The options are Disabled and Enabled. Load SAS Option ROM (X8ST3-F Only) This feature is to load the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) option ROM, if available.
