The headlights and tai llights will blink f or about 30 seconds. Also , the hor n will sound inter mittently for about 30 sec- onds at the same time.

This le ver is for emergency use so that if a per- son, such as a child, gets trappe d in the trunk compar tment, he can exit the vehicle.

The passenger’ s side mirror is a conve x (cur ve d surface) mirror . Objects seen in this mirror will look smaller and appe ar f ar- ther aw ay than when seen in a flat mirror .

A slack belt will provide less pro- tection than one which is snug.
2-24 BEFORE DRIVIN G 80J21-03E Lap-Shoulder Belt Emergenc y Locking Retractor (ELR) The seat belt has an emerge ncy locking retractor (ELR), which is designed to lock the seat belt only dur ing a sudden stop or impact. It also may loc k if you pull the belt across your body very quickly .

Check the webbing, buc kles, latch plates, retractors, anchorages and guide loops. Replace any seat belts which do not work proper ly or are damaged.

The seat position sensor provides inf or mation w hich is used to judge if the dr iver’ s front air bag should deploy at reduced po wer or at full power .

2-48 BEFORE DRIVIN G 80J21-03E How the System W orks In a frontal collision, the crash sensors will detect rapid deceleration and send a signal to the controller . If the control ler judges that the dece leration repres ents a sev ere frontal crash, the cont roller will tr igger the inflators.

4-3 INSTRUMENT PANEL 80J21-03E Warning and Indicator Lights Low Tire Pressure Warnin g Light 52D305 As an added safety f eature, your v ehicle has been equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that uses a low tire pressure warning light to inform you when one or more of your tires is signifi- cantly under-inflated.

4-13 INSTRUMENT PANEL 80J21-03E Temperature Gauge 79J133 When the ignition switch is in the “ON” position, this gauge indicates th e engine coolant temp erature. Under normal dr iving conditions, the indicator should stay within the norm al, acceptable temperature range between “H” and “C”.
