Switch Management Overview 1.1 About the ES3000 Ethernet Switch The ES3000 Ethernet Switch comes in two versions. One version provides Power over Ethe rnet (PoE) in a ccordance with IEEE standard 8 02.3a f. This allows comp atible Ethernet devices to obtain power from the 10/100BaseT Ethernet wiring.

The administration console and Web Browser inte rface a re embedded in the switch firmware.

ES3000 Use r Guide 1-6 1.6 Administration of t he ES3000 Ethernet Switch There are three management us er interfaces on the switch: menu-driven, CLI, and Web. The menu- driven and CLI interfaces are a ccessed using a direct serial connection or via T elnet over an Ethernet connection.
Switch Management Overview 1-7 T o use the ES3000 Command Line In terface (CLI) to configure the device: 1. Use HyperT erminal (or other communications utility) to secure a con nection to the ES3000 Ethernet Switch. 2. Hit the return key < Enter > to display the ES3000 logon sc reen.

Firmware Upgrades Symbol periodically releases new ve rsions of t he firmware that runs on the ES3 000 Ethernet Switch. These software rele ases provide new fe at ures that can extend the us eful life of the ES3000 Ethernet Switch.
ES3000 Use r Guide 2-2 Symbol recommends using a RS-232 serial p ort connection to the switch during the software upgrade. When us ing a T elnet Session or Web interface, the connection to the switch is not available until the switch has completed its boot cycle and entered the Spanning T ree forwarding mode.
Administration Console Access The administration console is an in ternal, char acte r -oriented , VT -100/ANSI menu-driven user interface for management con figuration activi tie s. View the administration console from a terminal, PC, Apple Macintosh, o r UNIX workstation connected to the switch console port.

Differentiated Se rvice (DiffServ) uses a priority ta g in the data packet (the Differentiated Service Code Point or DSCP) to determine the priority of the packet. The Policy Config menu maps the various DSCP tags to the two four queues on ea ch port.

W eb Management Access The Symbol ES3000 Managed Sw itch provides a bu ilt-in browser interface for configuring and managing remotely using a standard Web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explo rer or Netscape Navigator . The browse r interface also allows for system monitoring of th e Switch.
