2 INTRODUCTION With the explosive growth of the Internet, accessing info rmation and services at any time, day or night has b ecome a standard requiremen t for most people. The era of the standalone PC is waning. Networking technology is moving out of the exclusive domain of c orporations and i nto homes with at least two computers.

4 UNPACKING AND SETUP This chapter provides unpacking and setup information for the IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Home Router. Unpacking Open the box of the WLAN Router and ca refully unpack it.
5 HARDWARE INSTALLATION Front Panel The figure below shows the front panel of the IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Home Router. Front Pa nel POWER This indicator lights green when the hub is re ceives power, otherwise it is off. SYSTEM This indicator blinking green means th e WLAN Router is working successfully.
6 Rear Panel The figure below shows the rear panel of the IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Home Router. Rear Panel Antenna There are two 2dBi gain antennas on th e rear panel for wireless connection. LAN (1-4) Four RJ-45 10/100Mbps Auto-MDIX ports for connecting to either 10Mbps or 100Mbps Ethernet connections.
7 Side Panel The figure below shows the side panel of the IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Home Router. WPS (side panel) Push this button to execute th e Wi-Fi Protected Setup process.
8 Hardware connections Connecting the WLAN Router 1. Plug in one end of the network cable to the WAN port of the WL AN Router. 2. Plug in the other end of the network cable to the Ethernet po rt of the xDSL or Cable modem.
9 PC NETWORK TCP/IP SETTING The network TCP/IP settings differ based on the co mputer’s operating system (Win95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vist a) and are as follows. Windows 95/98/ME 1. Click on the “ Network nei ghborhood ” icon found on the desktop. 2.
10 6. Select “ None ” for the “ Gateway address ” field. Windows 2000 Double click on the “ My Comput er ” icon on the desktop. When “ My Computer ” window opens, open the “ Control Panel ” and then open the “ Network dialup connection ” applet.
11 Windows XP / Vista Point the cursor and click the right button on the “My N etwork Place” icon. Select “properties” to ente r the TC P/IP setting window. 1. Set “ IP address ” to “ Obt ain an IP add ress automatically .” 2. Set “ DNS ” to “ Obtain DNS server ad dress automatically .
12 CONFIGURATION First make sure that the network c onnections are functi oning normally. This WLAN Router can be configured us i ng Internet Explore r 5.0 or newer web browser versions. Login to the WLAN Rout er through Wireless LAN Before configuring the WLAN Router thro ugh WLAN , make sure that the SSID, Channel and the WEP is set properly.
13 Setup Wizard Setup wizard is provided as part of the w eb configuration util ity. User can simply follow the step-by-step process to get the wireless Router confi guration ready to run in 6 easy steps by clicking on` the “W izard” button on the function menu.
14 Step 3: Set LAN connection and DHCP server Set user’s IP address and ma sk. The default IP is 192.16 8.10.1. If the user chooses to enable DHCP, please clic k “Enable”. DHCP enabled is able to automatically assign IP addresses. Please a ssign the range of IP addresse s in the fields of “Range start” and “Range end”.
15 Obtain IP automatically (DHCP client): If the user has enabled DHCP server, choose "Obtain IP automatically (DHCP client)" to have the WLAN Router assign IP addresses automatically.
16 Fixed IP Address: If the Internet Service Provid er (ISP) assigns a fixed IP address, choose this option and enter the assigned WAN IP Addre ss, WAN Subnet Mask, WAN Gatewa y Address and DNS Server Addr esses for the WLAN Router.
17 PPPoE to obtain IP automatically: If connected to the Internet using a PPPoE (Dial-up xD SL) connection, and the ISP provides a User Name and Password, then c hoose this option an d enter the required information.
18 PPPoE with a fixed IP address: If connected to the Internet using a PPPoE (Dial-up xD SL) connection and the ISP provides a User Name, Passwo rd and a Fixed IP Address, choose this option and enter the required information.
19 PPTP: If connected to the Internet using a PPT P xDSL connection, en ter your IP, Subnet Mask, Gateway, Server IP, PPTP Account and PPT P Password..
20 L2TP: If connected to the Intern et using a L2TP (Dial-up xD SL) connection and the ISP provides a Server IP, Account and Password information, choose this option and enter the required information.
21 Big Pond Cable(Australia): If your ISP is BigPond Cable, the ISP will provide a User Name, Password, Authentication Server and L ogin Server IP (O ptional).
22 Russia PPPoE: If your ISP is PPPoE in Russia, the ISP w ill provide a User Name, Password, and Login Server IP. Choose this option and enter th e required information.
23 Russia PPTP: If connected to the Internet using a PPTP (xDSL) connection and the ISP provides a Server IP, Account and Password informa t ion, choose this option and enter the required information.
24 Step 5: Set Wireless LAN connection Click “Enable” to enable Wireless LAN. If user enables the Wireless LAN , type the SSID in the text box and select a comm unications channel. The SSID and channel must be the same as wireless devices at tempting to connect to the WLAN Router.
25 Advanced configuration Main The screen enables users to confi gure the LAN & DHCP Server, set WAN parameters, create Administrator and User passwords, and set the local tim e, time zone, and dynamic DNS.
26 Start IP: Type an IP address to serve as the st art of the IP rang e that DHCP will use to assign IP addresses to all LAN devices connected to the WLAN Router. End IP: Type an IP a ddress to serve as the end of the IP range that DHCP will use to assign IP addresses to all LAN devices connect ed to the WLAN Router.
27 WAN IP: Select whether user wants to speci fy an IP address manually, or w ant DHCP to obtain an IP addr ess automatically . When Specify IP is selected, type the IP address, subnet mask, a nd default gateway in the te xt boxes. User’s ISP will provide with this information.
28 Time This screen enables users to set the time and date for th e WLAN Router's real-time clock, select properly time zone, an d enable or disabl e daylight saving. Local Time: Displays the local time and date. Time Zone: Select the time zone from the drop-down list.
29 Dynamic DNS This synchronizes the DDNS server with your current Pu blic IP address when you are online. First, you need to regist er yo ur preferred DNS with the DDNS provider. Then, please select th e DDNS address in the Server Address and fill the related information in the below fields: Ho st Name, User Name and Password.
30 Wireless This section enables users to configura tion the wireless com muni cations parameters for the WLAN Router. Basic This page allow user to enable and di sable the wireless LAN function, create a SSID, and select the channe l for wireless communications.
31 z Auto 20/40 - Select this option if you are using both 802.11n and non- 802.11n wireless devices. z 20MHz – This is the default se tting. Select this opti on if you are not using any 802.11n wireless clients. SSID Broadcast: While SSID Broadcast is enabled, all wireless clients will be able to view the WLAN Router’s SSID .
32 WEP Encryption WEP: Open System and Shared Key requi res the user t o set a WEP key to exchange data with other wireless c lients that have th e same WEP key.. Mode: Select the key type: ASCII or HEX WEP Key: Select the level of encryption fr om the dr op-down list.
33 RADIUS Server: 1. Enter the IP address, Port used and Shared Secret by the Primary Radius Serv er. 2. Enter the IP address, Port used and Shared Secret by th e Secondary Radius Server. (optional) WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK Security If WPA, WPA2 or WPA-Au to PSK is selected.
34 Beacon Interval: Type the beacon interval in the te xt box. User can specify a value from 25 to 1000. The defa ul t beacon interval is 100. RTS Threshold: Type the RTS (Request-To-Send) th reshol d in the text box. This value stabilizes data flow. If data flow is irregular, ch oose values bet ween 256 and 2346 until data flow is normalized.
35 Push Button Configuration: Clicking the Start PBC button will invoke the Push Button Configuration (PBC) me thod of WPS. It is onl y used when WLAN Ro uter acts as a Registrar.
36 LAN: This section displays the LAN interface configur ation including the MAC address, IP Address, Subnet Mask, and DHCP Server Status. Click “DHCP Table” to view a list of client stations currently connected to the WLAN Router LAN interface.
37 Log Setting This screen enables users to set Router Log parameters. SMTP Authentication: Selected the Enabled if th e SMTP server need for authentication, fill in account name a nd password in SMTP Account field and SMTP Password field. SMTP Account: If the SMTP Authenti cation enabled, fill in the SMTP account name here.
38 Statistic This screen displays a table that shows the rate of packet transmission via the WLAN Router’s LAN, Wireless and WAN ports (in byt es per second).
39 Routing This selection enables users to set how the WLAN Router forwards data: Static and Dynamic. Routing Table enables users to view the informa tion created by the WLAN Router that displays the ne twork i nterconnection topology.
40 Dynamic This screen enables users to se t the dynamic routing parameters. Transmit: Click the radio buttons to set the de sired transmit param eters, Disabled, RIP 1, or RIP 2. Receive: Click the radio buttons to set the desired receive parameters, Disabled, RIP 1, or RIP 2.
41 Routing Table This screen enables users to view th e routing table of the WLAN Router. The routing table is a database created by th e WLAN Router that displays the network interconnection topology. Network Address: Displays the network IP a ddress of the connected node.
42 Access This page enables you to de fine access restrictions, set up protocol and IP filters, create virtual servers, define access for speci al applications such as games, and set firewall rules. Filters Using filters to deny or allo w the users to access to the internet.
43 MAC Filters MAC Filter: Enables you to allow or de ny accessing the internet. Disable: Disable the MAC filter function. Allow: Only allow computers with MAC address listed in the MAC Table. Deny: Computers in the MAC Table are denied Internet access.
44 Domain/URL Blocking You could specify the domains that allow users to acce ss or deny by clicking one of the two items. Also, add the specified domains in the text box. z Disab le: Disable the Domain/URL Blocking function. z Allow: Allow u sers to access all domains except “Domains List”.
45 Protocol/IP Filters This screen enables you to defi ne a minimum and maximum IP address range filter; all IP addresses falling within th e range are not allowed accessing internet. The IP filter profiles are list ed in the table at the bott om of the page.
46 Virtual Server This screen enables user to create a virtual server vi a the WLAN Router. If the WLAN Router is set as a virtual server , remote users requesting Web or FTP services through the WAN ar e directed to local server s in the LAN. The WLAN Router redirects the request via the protocol and port numbers to th e correct LAN server.
47 LAN Server: Type the LAN IP address that will be assigned to the virtual server. z Add : Click to add the virtual server to the table at the bottom of the screen. z Update: Click to update information for th e virtual server if the user has selected a listed item and has made changes.
48 z Protocol: Select the protocol (TCP, UDP, or * for TCP+UDP) that ca n be used to access the application. z Port Range: Type the port range that can be used to access the application in the text boxes. Incoming: Defines which incoming communicati ons users are permitted to connect with.
49 DMZ Host IP: Type a host IP addr ess for the DMZ. The co mputer with this IP address acts as a DMZ host with unlimited Internet access. Apply: Click to save the settings. Firewall Settings A firewall protects your network from the ou tside world, this screen enables users to setup the simple firewall fu nction on the wireless router.
50 Management Management enables users to set up the Remote Management feature. Remote Management This screen enables users to set up remote managemen t. Using r emote management, the WLAN Router can be co nfigured through the WAN vi a a Web browser. A user name and password are required to perform remote management.
51 Tools This page enables users to restart the system, save and load different settings as profiles, restore factory default settings, run a set up wizard to configure WLAN Router settings, upgrade the firmwa re, and ping remote IP addresses. Restart Click “Restart” to restart the system in the event th e system is not performing correctly.
52 Settings This screen enables users to save settings as a profile an d load profiles for different circumstances. User can also load the factory default settings, and run a setup wizard to configure the WLAN Router and Router i nterface. Save Settings: Click “Save” to save the current co nfiguration as a profile that can load when necessary.
53 Firmware This screen enables users to keep the WLAN Router fi rmware up to date. Please follow the below instructions: Download the latest firmware from the manuf acturer's Web site, and save it to disk. Click “Browse” and go to the location of th e downloaded firmware file.
