5 Installing the Phone 6 Installing the Phone Choosing the Best Location When choosing a location for your new phone, here are some important guidelines you should consider: Notes: For maximum range: Keep both the base and handset antennas free of obstruction.
5 6 Installing the Phone Installing the Battery Use only the Uniden BT -101 1 rechargeable battery pack supplied with your cordless telephone. Locate the battery pack, battery cover and the handset. Pu sh t he b at te ry p ac k co nn ec to r in f ir ml y .
7 Installing the Phone 8 Connecting the AC adapter T o the base T o avoid risk of re and shock, only use the Uniden PS-0009 AC adapter with the base. Connect the AC adapter to the DC IN 9V jack on the bottom of the base. Connect the AC adapter to a standard 120V AC wall outlet.
7 8 Installing the Phone Charging the Handset Place the handset in the base cradle with the display facing forward. If you have an accessory handset, place it in the charging cradle with the display facing forward. Charge your handset at least 15 to 20 hours before plugging into the phone line.
9 Installing the Phone 10 Connecting to the Phone Line Make sure that the battery pack is fully charged. Connect the telephone cord to the TEL LINE jack on the bottom of the base. Route the cord through the molded wiring channel. Connect the telephone cord to a telephone wall jack.
9 10 Installing the Phone T esting the Connection Pick up the handset from the cradle and press [ /ash] . Y ou should hear a dial tone, and the display should show T ALK. What if I can’t hear a dial tone? Check the telephone cord connection on the base.
1 1 Installing the Phone 12 Changing the dial mode Y our phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most base networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing.

13 14 Installing the Phone Selecting the base When your handset is registered to another base, it will automatically connect to the base. A base ID (that is for the handset only) will be assigned in the order of registration. Y ou can either select a base you want to use manually , or set to AUTO.

19 20 Using the Interface Using the Four-way Function Key Y our handset has a four-way function key that allows you to move the cursor or pointer on the display and access the most commonly used features at the touch of a button. By moving this key to the left, you open the phonebook.
21 Using the Interface Entering T ext from Y our Handset Y ou can use the number keypad on your handset to enter text by referring to the letters printed on each number key . When you press the number key in a text entry eld, the phone displays the rst letter printed on the number key .
22 Basic Setup Basic Setup Selecting a Language Each handset supports two languages: English and Spanish for US models or English and French for Canadian models. Once you select a language, the menus on the handset will display in that language. The default language is English.
23 Basic Setup Activating Personal Settings Y ou can assign special ringer tones to anyone in your phonebook. When your phone gets a call, it looks up the Caller ID information in your phonebook. If you’ve assigned a personal ringer and color to that number , the phone uses it so you know who is calling.
24 Setting Up the Phonebook Each handset has its own separate phonebook that holds up to seventy names and numbers. When a handset’s phonebook is full, the handset beeps and shows MEMORY FULL on the display . Y ou cannot add any names and numbers in that handset’s phonebook until you delete some of the existing ones.
25 26 Assign a personal ring tone for this entry (PERSONAL RING). Y ou can attach a special ring tone to each phonebook entry; the phone will use this ring tone when this person calls. Use [ ] and [ ] to select one of the ten different ring tone options (see Selecting a Ringer T one on page 28 for a complete list of ring tones).
25 26 Editing an Existing Phonebook Entry With the phone in standby , press [ ] to open the phonebook. Find the entry you want to edit and press [Select/menu] . Select EDIT . Follow the steps for Creating Phonebook Entries on page 2 4. If you do not wish to change the information at any step, simply press [Select/menu] to go to the next step.
27 Deleting all Phonebook Entries With the phone in standby , press [ ] . Press [Select/menu] , and then select DELETE ALL. DELETE ALL? appears in the display . Move the cursor to select YES. Press [Select/menu] . Y ou will hear a conrmation tone, and DELETED! appears in the display .
28 28 Customizing Y our Handsets All of the following options are set separately for each handset, so you can customize a handset for each room in your house. Changing the Handset Banner Each handset will display a banner name once it is registered to the base.
29 29 30 30 Activating AutoT alk AutoT alk allows you to answer the phone simply by picking up the handset from the cradle. Y ou do not have to press a button to answer the call. Press [Select/menu] . Select the HANDSET SETUP menu, and then the AUTOT ALK submenu.

33 34 34 Using Caller ID, Call Waiting, and Redial Lists Seven-digit dialing If you can make a local call by dialing only seven digits instead of ten, you can tell the phone to hide your local area code in the Caller ID list; any calls from outside your area code will show all ten digits.

During a call, press [Int’com/clear] . Use [ ] or [ ] to select the handset you want to transfer the call to, and then press [Select/menu] .
40 Using Special Features Using Special Features Privacy Mode Privacy mode prevents other handsets from interrupting while you’re on a call. As long as your handset is in privacy mode, other handsets can’t join your call or make any calls of their own: their displays will show UNA V AILABLE.
41 Using Special Features 42 Answering an intercom page When the intercom page tone sounds, the display will show the ID of the handset that is paging. Press [ /ash] or [Int’com/clear] on the handset. Note: If AutoT alk is on, the handset will automatically answer the page when you pick up the handset from the cradle.
41 42 Using Special Features Using a V oice Mail Service If you subscribe to a voice mail service, you can use your phone to access your voice mailbox. When there are messages waiting in your voice mailbox, the new message LED on the handset ashes and appears in the handset display .

Only one handset at a time can access the answering system menus. Note: If you have multiple bases, select the base with answering system you want to access (see page 1 4).

T o switch to the other greeting: Press [6] while the system is playing the current greeting. Each time you press [6] , the system switches between the pre-recorded and the personal greeting.

(Y ou need to activate the base call screen feature in advance. See page 4 6.) T o mute the call screen and allow the caller to continue leaving the message, press [ ] .
49 50 Using the Answering System T o operate from a remote location, use any touch-tone telephone, and follow these steps: Call your telephone number and wait for the system to answer . If the answering system is off, it will answer after about ten rings and sounds a series of beeps.

51 52 52 Maintenance Low battery alert When the battery pack is very low , the phone is programmed to eliminate functions in order to save power . When LOW BA TTERY - CHARGE HANDSET appears in the handset display and the phone is in standby , none of the keys will operate.
